Buffy’s Corner 5/31/26 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer.

Hubby finally came home from his two week trip to South Africa, and he came back with some amazing photos. The tiger I’m sharing below is supposedly the last living wild White Tiger, at least according to the hubby. All the others are only found in zoos. If you’re on Facebook and you want to follow his animal adventures, I suggest following him.

It’s been a very cold week in the mountains! I actually had to run my heater a couple of times, and at night it got down to freezing a few times. Crazy! But this week temps are going up, and I’ll be glad to do a little outside deck reading this weekend:-)

I finished watching The Boroughs on Netflix and really had fun with it! It’s got a strong Spielberg/ET vibe, and the characters really grew on me. The story takes place in a weird retirement home complex in the middle of the desert, but you know something nefarious is going on behind the scenes. It’s only 8 episodes and each one is only about 40 minutes long. Check it out!

Upcoming reads & reviews:

My covers this week are still very bright and colorful! Tuesday I’ll be sharing my review of The Children, which was absolutely amazing. I’m currently reading Startup Hell and struggling a bit. There’s a lot of “corporate speak” and endless details about sales and marketing, and I’m finding it sort of dull. Right now I’m debating whether to DNF it or push through. Then I’m diving into my most anticipated June reads, Headlights and The Summer Fun Massacre, and both are part of my Summer of Horror reading list.

Other posts this week:

Monday is June 1st, can you believe it? Stop by to see What’s On My Plate for June. This past week I saw so many cover reveals, so I’m trying to narrow them down to my three favorites for Future Fiction.

Summer of Horror Updates:

It’s still May, but I’m thrilled to see that bloggers are already jumping in with Summer of Horror posts! I’ll be sharing them each week on Sundays. I also want to welcome some new bloggers who have signed up for the event: Lynn, Alicia, Steph, Imyril and Bookworm! Thank you for signing up and welcome to the pack:-) Here are the Summer of Horror posts I found this week (and do let me know if I missed your post):

  1. That’s a beautiful photograph, thank you for sharing. I was very lucky to be able to hand feed a white tiger at The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent, here in the UK. His name was Baikal (he sadly died recently at 14 years old, I think) and being so close to such a strong but gentle creature was a real privilege. They are very rare in the wild, and breeding them in captivity specifically to create more white tigers is problematic as the gene pool is so small.

  2. Cold temps? Sign me up LOL. It’s crazy though, you’re right.

That review for The Children can’t come soon enough – I can’t wait to see if our thoughts align or you’ve found some layer I didn’t realise the story had…

That poor tiger must feel lonely. And it looks like there’s a problem with its right eye…cataract? Regardless, the pic is amazing!

    • Never mind…I looked at your husband’s Facebook (I’m not on FB but I was able to read his post) where he explains everything about the tiger (which turned out to be female).

  3. That white tiger photograph is amazing! I need to watch The Boroughs, it sounds good. Enjoy your reading this week and yay for Summer of Horror!

  4. Oh that’s a stunning photo of the tiger!

Oof, sucks that Startup Hell seems kinda disappointing. Having worked as a freelancer for several startups, I can affirm they don’t all have to be about sales and marketing (actually, some of them could do with a bit more of that kind of thinking, probably!). So… it needn’t have been boring! Still, I might give it a shot and see what I think.

Thank you! I work in a corporate environment and the last thing I want to do after work is read about it. I loved her last book so I don’t know what I was expecting…

  5. When you were freezing we have been melting Tammy! I got Stertup Hell too and will read it soon I hope and maybe I won’t be bothered by the corporate lingo? It’s my wish at least! And that photo of the tiger is splendid!

    • Tammy

I’m so sorry! I am not freezing anymore since I wrote those words. It’s getting hot here too!

  6. Wow! What an amazing photo! I went to follow your husband’s page so I can see all the amazing pictures too! You’ve got a bunch of fun books, I need to get caught up on reading reviews now that school is out. We had the heat here, I prefer cooler weather, but it is summer I guess, lol.

    • Tammy

Thanks Lisa! My husband asked me who you were (when you put in a friend request) and I told him he might be getting requests from a bunch of book bloggers!

  7. That photograph is stunning! Urg – temperatures plummeting down near zero at this time of year sounds a bit grim. Is it normal – I know you’re up high. That said, it has to be preferable to frying in the terrible temperatures so many folks in the States are enduring these days. I’m a bit devastated to hear that Startup Hell is boring – her previous book was a total joy!! Hope it gets warmer during the coming week, Tammy.

    • Tammy

Thank you Sarah! I really hope you enjoy Startup Hell more than I am. I can’t wait to hear what you think!

  8. That’s such a cool picture! I’m almost envious of your cool temps – we went from nice spring-like weather to summer humidity so quickly.

    • Tammy

Thanks! Our temps are starting to get up there, I’m dreading have to use the air conditioning.

  9. Lovely white tiger photograph!!! I’m so glad your husband got to see it! As for The Boroughs, I haven’t heard of that show. Maybe once we’re done with One Piece we’ll check it out. We occasionally watch mystery movies/series.

  10. Every time I see that cover for Headlights I can’t help but look closer. I look forward to hearing how the actual story is. And nice portrait of the white tiger! Looks very relaxed.

    • Tammy

Me too, it’s such an odd cover. Honestly, I’m a little afraid to find out what’s going on…

  11. I’m also watching the Boroughs and loving it. More tonight hopefully.
And that tiger – wow. I shall defo be following your hubbie’s page.
    Lynn 😀

  12. My family just binged The Burroughs and we had a good time with it! My daughter said it felt a little like Stranger Things but with old people, and well, I guess she’s not wrong lol.
