Over-Booked [218] – May 2026 Book Haul

May was a busy month for book mail and NetGalley approvals! I have already read a few of these, and I’ll link those to my reviews. As always, I sincerely appreciate each book sent to me by publishers, and I will recognize each one below. Here we go!

Books in the mail for review:

Milkteeth by Caitlin Starling. I’m thrilled to have a copy of this October release, a vampire story that sounds like it’s going to offer something very different. Big thanks to St. Martin’s Press for the review copy:-)

Incarnate by Alma Katsu. I have been a long time fan of Alma’s, and even though there have a been a few misses here and there, I usually enjoy her books. This is a reimagining of The Picture of Dorian Gray and explores the world of deepfake technology! Huge thanks to Putnam for this bright pink book!

I was so excited when Chris Panatier contacted me and asked if I wanted a copy of Worry Box, his upcoming horror release. As if I would say no, lol. Chris is a hot author at the moment, since he has multiple releases out or coming out, and I couldn’t be more excited to read this. Thank you Chris!

Samantha Spük: Paranormal Wedding Planner by Aleese Lin. This is getting mixed reviews, but I still plan to at least try it. This is a June release so hopefully I can dive in soon. Big thanks to Saga Press!

The Summer Fun Massacre by Craig DiLouie. DiLouie is a must read author for me, and this book screams “summer fun,” even though it’s a slasher (or maybe because it’s a slasher;-)) I’ll be reading this very soon. Thank you to the Orbit Team for the review copy:-)

Hopeless Necromantic by Shiloh Briar. This is the first book in a new series and I think it sounds really cute. Also, how cute is the cover?? Thank you Orbit!

Trad Wife by Sarah Langan. I already have an eARC of this, but when the publicist asked if I wanted a physical copy I couldn’t say no. I’m very excited to finally jump on the “trad wife” bandwagon! Big thanks to Atria:-)

The Mortal Trials by Megan Shunmugam. This romantasy is being compared to Shield of Sparrows, so of course I was sucked into the hype! Huge thanks to Angry Robot Books for the review copy!

The Thrice-Bound Fool by Christopher Buehlman. I absolutely loved The Blacktongue Thief, and this is the second book in the series. I cannot wait! Thank you Tor!

Also from Tor, I received a copy of The Traveler by Joseph Eckert. This might have been unsolicited, since I don’t remember requesting it, but hey, it is on my TBR, so I’ll try to squeeze it in. Also, it’s getting great reviews so far, that helps!

A Plagued Sea by Kim Bo-Young. Having just read a different Korean horror novel, I’m very curious to read another one! This is a short novella that comes out in August, just the right timing for Summer of Horror:-) Big thanks to Tor Nightfire!

The Inevitable Undoing of Zahara Douglass by Leslye Penelope. Huge thanks to Kaye Publicity for this review copy. I have yet to try this author, but this story about a missing sister that no one remembers sounds intriguing!

A Penance For Crows by Shannon Morgan. I love the sound of this Gothic horror novel that takes place in Ireland. The cover is pulling me in too:-) Big thanks to Kaye Publicity for this book as well!

Strange is the Light by Sarah Maria Griffin. This is my second book by Griffin, after the very weird but enjoyable Eat the Ones You Love. It sounds very different but so good! Thank you Tor!

One more batch of books, and these are all finished copies courtesy of the wonderful team at Tor Books! I’ve also read and reviewed all of these, and I’ll link my reviews below:

Death’s Daughter by S.A. Barnes. I enjoyed this series starter, and will definitely read the next book.

The Girl With a Thousand Faces by Sunyi Dean. I loved this book so much! A twisty, masterfully constructed tale by a very talented writer.

The Fake Divination Offense by Sara Rausch. This was the ARC I received where the cover was right but the inside of the book was not, lol. The publisher kindly sent a finished copy (and no, I didn’t ask for it!)

The Language of Liars by S.L. Huang. This short sci-fi novella was so beautiful!

Dead Weight by Hildur Knútsdóttir. This was more of a thriller than horror, but it did feature some very cute cats:-)

Digital books for review:

It was a busy month for NetGalley approvals, after being so good for the past few months!

Off the Reservation by Stephen Graham Jones. I hope to be offered a physical copy of this eventually, but I just had to grab the digital ARC from NetGalley when it popped up. This is the sequel to The Only Good Indians, which was pretty damn amazing.

The Calamities by Chuck Wendig. I am always excited to see a new Wendig book, and this sounds like fun: a powerful family with a big secret.

Revenge Plot by Stephanie Wrobel. A thriller set in the world of publishing? This sounds amazing!

Dive Bar at the End of the Road by Kelley Armstrong. I recently featured this on Future Fiction, so of course I had to grab it!

The Exquisite Torment of Loving Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, and I’m curious to see how the main couple’s relationship develops.

The Indecipherables by Anne Hellman. I just saw a bunch of mixed reviews on Goodreads, sigh. I was excited about this, but maybe the reviews will improve. This doesn’t come out until next January…

An Immaculate Deception by Isabela Livino. Gothic horror set in Brazil? I think this sounds fantastic, and I can’t wait to check out this debut.

Bestiary by Patrick Rutigliano. Patrick offered me a copy of his upcoming horror book, and I couldn’t say no. It’s not on Goodreads yet, but I’m linking to his website.

Entities to Lovers by Mallory Marlowe. This sounds like a cute paranormal romance that takes place in Boston and centers around a medium/ghost tour guide!

Do you plan to read any of these?
