Buffy’s Corner 6/14/26 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer.

Well, summer has arrived in full force. We actually had to run the air conditioning a couple of times:-( But I really shouldn’t complain. The highs are in the 80s, but I know other places are much worse.

How do you feel about book club (or other types) of stickers on new hardcover books? I personally hate them. I preordered a copy of The Children, and right before the release day, there was an announcement that it had been selected for Jenna’s Book Club. I crossed my fingers that maybe my preorder wouldn’t have the dreaded sticker, but unfortunately:

And this isn’t the kind of “sticker” you can peel off. Ugh. I mean, I’m happy for Melissa Albert, but come on. Let’s add those labels after the first print run at least! If anyone knows of a special edition of this book, please let me know! I’m willing to buy it again:-)

Upcoming reads & reviews:

This was a slower reading week. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy Headlights as much as I was hoping, and it took most of the week to get through it. I will post my review tomorrow. I’m currently reading Hopeless Necromatic, which is not off to a good start, I’m sorry to say (if you’ve read it, please tell me it gets better!). I also started The Sixth Nik and I love it so far! After that I’ll probably start It Came From Neverland.

Other posts this week:

After a packed week, I’m taking things a bit easier, lol. I’ll have two reviews, and of course I’ll share my picks for Future Fiction on Wednesday. I may do the Six in Six tag later in the week (I’m linking up to Emma’s post since the original host isn’t blogging anymore). Since I had two Summer of Horror lists last week, I’m taking a week off:-)

  1. Huge pet peeve of mine is that sticker! It ruins the who cover and if you’re a collector it’s ugly. I think they should put the stickers on the back cover or inside flap. I also think that if you pre-ordered without the sticker, you should get a copy without the sticker.

  2. yeah, I hate those stickers! They do it on books at Target though, and sometimes they have special editions of books I want to get there, but then it has the stupid sticker on it. Sorry you had a so-so reading week. Hopefully books are better this week! I turn my AC on as soon as the temps get above 70 usually because I don’t have a way to open windows and get air flowing through the house, not to mention my allergies would not be a fan of that either. Hope you have a good week!

I don’t think I’m going to buy books with stickers anymore. I’m making a statement!

  3. I hate stickers of all kinds on books.. I’m slogging through Hopeless Necromantic right now and the man thing that keeps me going is Bob. Wait, is that his name? The skeleton. We’ve had upper 90 heat indexes all week but have a cool down coming soon.

    • Tammy

I’m so curious to see what you think of Hopeless Necromantic. I just didn’t connect with the characters at all, and the beginning scenes were so confusing, I feel like I missed something.

  4. Ugh, I can’t stand the stickers either! They should at least be peel-able. Even if it’s for a book club that I like, I don’t want the sticker on my covers! Hope Badger (and you) find a way to keep cool 🙂

He loves the cold, but he struggles in the summer, so we have to make sure he isn’t outside when it’s really hot.

  5. Aw Badger 🙂 It’s been very hot here lately too. I don’t mind it, but I do not like the insects the summer brings. I saw The Children at Target this weekend and was tempted. I don’t like stickers on book covers either.

    • Tammy

Oh the insects!!! I am not a bug person, and we get spiders and ants inside the house during the hot months, I hate it, lol.

  6. Yeah, I’m with you, I’ve never liked those kinds of stickers on books. I almost always attempt to remove them but that risks damaging the cover, or giving up only after I’ve destroyed part of the sticker and/or cover. Frustrating. Grrrr…

  7. Im so sorry to hear of the sticker on your edition of The Children. I hate those too, they’re so frustrating. Couldn’t they stick it on the back at least with the blurb rather than on the front. Im also sorry to hear about Hopeless Necromantic, I’ve seen a lot of love for it over on Instagram but havent read it myself. Glad your other read is stronger though.

Its wonderful seeing how many people are joining in with Summer Of Horror too. I’m going to have to try and squeeze in some extra blog hopping time sometime this week.

  8. Those stickers drive me crazy too. I understand why publishers or booksellers use them, but I wish they’d wrap the books like they do with cds, if they’re going to superglue something to the cover. Three Hitmen and a Baby looks fun. I’ve not heard of it before. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Have a great week. Here’s my Sunday post, if you’d like to see it: https://julidrevezzo.com/post/writing-wayside

  9. Those stickers are fine – provided they can be peeled off. But the publisher isn’t thinking clearly – because in five or six years, who is going to CARE?? Grrr. Another strong reason why I no longer buy physical books! I’m not taking part in the Summer of Horror because I’m too much of a wuss, but I’m delighted to see how well it’s going. And good for Badger – cool spots are the best when you’ve a black coat and the temperature is hot. Hope this week is going well, Tammy:)).

  10. Lynn

    Thanks for the shares.
I detest those stickers – and they’re not even stickers. I’m fuming on your behalf. STOP with these eyesores. I do understand the desire to shout all the accolades out but not on the front cover please. I beg you to stop with the stickers-that-aren’t-stickers.
    Lynn 😀
