Today is the final Friday of Summer of Horror 2025, and I’ve brought together one last “color” gallery of horror: black. Of all the colors (and I realize black isn’t technically a color, but let’s go with it), black screams “horror.” Here are eleven books I’ve either read or want to read:
Crawlspace by Adam Christopher
You Weren’t Meant To Be Human by Andrew Joseph White
The Unmothers by Leslie J. Anderson
Heads Will Roll by Josh Winning
You Watched In Silence by H. Lee Justine

Yay! Gallows Hill made your list.
All these covers are creepy! So so creepy!!
Love all these dark covers! They look very foreboding all together like that.
Fab! Of course, black is the classic horror cover color — so fun to see all these together. The original Salem’s Lot cover is still amazing!
These books all nail it when it comes to a Horror Cover.
That Sallow Bend cover is so creeepy.
I’m not surprised that there are so many black horror covers, especially when combined with red details. I’ve also never seen that version of Salems Lot before but it’s so eerie.
Great covers. Thanks for such a great event! Hope you do it next year. I got one last post in today too!
I’ve read a couple of these but there is one on the list I should have already read but haven’t: Salem’s Lot. I’d like to get to that one day.
This is very creepy and perfect for horror Tammy!
A great collection of creepy books. I think black is the perfect color for horror stories. I especially like it when the typography is red. Really drawn to that cover of crawlspace.
Considering I don’t read a lot of horror I’ve read four of these. Perfect colour.
