Twelve Upcoming 2026 Thriller/Horror Books with Creepy Houses on the Cover

I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday, which was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog.

Today it’s a “genre freebie” on Top Ten Tuesday, which is a fun topic with limitless possibilities! Today I’ve found twelve books in the horror/thriller genres with creepy houses on the cover. A few years ago I did a similar list, but it’s time to update it, since I’ve seen so many upcoming releases that fit the prompt. These are all on my TBR or “watch” list, and I’ve linked them to Goodreads and also listed them in alphabetical order.

The Cracks by T.H. Huddleston. A punk rock love letter to Gothic horror, about class, grief and the ghosts of the past, perfect for fans of Grady Hendrix and Rachel Harrison.” I believe Titan Books just changed the cover on this, but I can’t find a good image to use, so this will have to do.

The House That Eats the Dead by Max Doty. A family moves into their dream home—only to discover that it hides an insatiable hunger—in this dread-laced and darkly outrageous domestic horror novel.”

The House Built On Alligator Bones by Sophia Huneycutt. “Dartrine Beaumont believes her mother’s sudden death has left her alone in the world—until she learns of long-lost wealthy relatives living in Florida. Confused but delighted by the possibility of extended family, Dart travels to her grandmother’s stately Gilded Age mansion on Amelia Island for answers, just in time to stake a claim on an unusual inheritance: an alligator farming empire.”

I’ll Watch Your Baby by Neena Viel.A suffocating and sharp narrative horror novel for fans of Victor LaValle and The Reformatory, I’ll Watch Your Baby is a haunting reimagining of Linda Taylor -known as the original Welfare Queen – pursued, scrutinized, celebrated and vilified, and the impact her image has had for generations.”

An Immaculate Deception by Isabela Livino.A debut Gothic horror set in 1870s Brazil—a tale of creeping suspense in which a young pregnant woman finds herself unable to escape her lover’s isolated family home, and a family’s deal with the devil goes terribly wrong.”

Newbourne Park by Jennifer Thorne. “From the USA Today bestselling author of Diavola comes a darkly funny, blood-soaked horror novel about the terrifying seduction of unlimited power.”

Please Enjoy Your Stay by Tara Goedjen. After a true crime podcast reopens her cousin’s murder case, a woman must confront her past at a glamorous European castle-turned-hotel where she follows a trail of toxic family secrets and deadly lies in this Gothic-tinged thriller perfect for readers of Lucy Foley and Ruth Ware.”

Reliquary by Hannah H. Whitten. A young woman is lured to her late fiancé’s remote island estate—only to uncover eerie family secrets, a haunting past, and a monstrous hunger stirring beneath the sea in this deliciously atmospheric horror debut from New York Times bestselling author Hannah Whitten.”

Solace House by Will Maclean. A brilliant, towering, puzzle-box novel about perfect summers and forbidden knowledge, somewhere in the mad interstice of Donna Tartt’s The Secret History and A.S. Byatt’s Possession.”

The Unhaunting by Micaiah Johnson. “At the end of the Civil War, a daughter of the Confederacy made what she thought was an innocent wish: to build a house where nothing bad could happen. But peace came at a price, and one hundred and seventy years later Shantell and her friends are about to discover where all that darkness ended up.”

White Rabbit by Abigail Rose-Marie. “Sylvia Plath comes to visit in this haunting literary coming of age novel. “

Worry Box by Chris Panatier. An unsettling horror story with a mysterious twist from a celebrated voice in horror. Perfect for fans of Paul Tremblay’s A Head Full of Ghosts.”

  1. Well my TBR just grew a fair bit lol I added the Alligator Bones one earlier this week but so many others are new to me. Particularly intrigued by An Immaculate Deception, love gothic novels set in different places than most like that.

  2. Wait! Are creepy houses about to dethrone Book Snake? If so, it’s a trend I can get behind. I have requested The House Built in Alligator Bones and am waiting on a reply. It is my favorite cover her for sure. Of course I added a few more too.

  3. Great post. I need to think about what horror I will read for your forthcoming summer event. Newbourne Park is definitely one that appeals to me very much.

I’ve been thinking about Summer of Horror too. I feel like summer will be here before we know it!
