Buffy’s Corner 1/28/24 – Calgary Owls!

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

The “Calgary owls” refers to my hubby’s recent trip to Calgary to look for some owls, and he found them! At the end of the post I’ll show a few of my favorite photos from his trip. He’s literally obsessed with owls, so cute:-) My week was pretty normal, although I was on dog babysitting duty (and trying to work from home at the same time) since the hubby was globetrotting. Snow is coming this week, at least that’s what I hear! I hope everyone had a good week with lots of good reading.

Upcoming reads & reviews

Tomorrow I’m posting my review of The Sanctuary, which was very odd but also compelling? It was a mixed bag but I’m not sorry I read it, if that makes sense. I’m currently reading The Frame-Up and really enjoying it so far. I’ve seen some very harsh reviews and ratings of this book on Goodreads, but I’m going to form my own opinions, of course. I’ll try to get a review up later in the week. After that, instead of going in publication order, I’ve decided to read two of my most highly anticipated February releases, An Education in Malice and The Bad Ones.

Other posts this week:

Top Ten Tuesday this week is “New to me authors,” and I read quite a few good ones last year; lots of cover reveals this past week, so look for three of them on Future Fiction; It’s also the end of January, can you believe it? So I’m doing double duty on Wednesday and also sharing my January Wrap-Up; Thursday is February 1st, so check back for What’s On My Plate!

  1. All those photos are stunning but the Northern Saw-whet Owl is so cute, what massive eyes.
I’ve just added An Education in Malice to my wishlist, not sure why I hadn’t heard of it before, sounds like it should be good. Hope you have a good week 😀

Thanks Anne! Yes, I thought we’d have more snow too. But I think our main snow months are later, like Feb/March.

  2. Wow, all of those pictures are so beautiful! Now, remind me what your husband does with the pictures? Does he work for a magazine or something? So cool! I’ll be reading the new Gwenda Bond book soon too, I always tend to enjoy her books even when others don’t, so I might not be the best person to judge if her books are always good or not, lol. Have a good week!

Thanks Lisa! His wildlife photography is just a hobby, but maybe someday he’ll make money on it. He’s definitely good enough, it’s just a matter of luck:-)

  3. Wowww I love those owl photos!!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in the day time. However, last weekend I heard those most unique series of hoots at about 10:30 at night. I’m pretty sure what I heard was a Barred Owl (or maybe two of them)…most of the time it sounded like a monkey call.

  4. The cover for The Frame-Up brings back very fond memories working for a few different picture framing stores. One of the best things was getting to see so much incredible artwork. And speaking of incredible artwork, this week’s photos are fantastic! I love each one, but those owls are stellar, especially the snowy owl in flight just over the snow. Moses is a wildlife whisperer, for sure. 🙂

Thank you Todd! Yes, wildlife whisperer is the perfect nickname. And my favorite it the snowy owl too:-)

  5. Oh wow! Those owls are gorgeous, especially the snowy owl. I love owls too. I love to watch reels of them on Instagram. They’re so cute and interesting. I’m glad your husband had a good trip and found them. 😀 Thanks for sharing.

  6. I’m late, but I wanted to say that those owl pics are stunning! (and the snowy owl is glorious). They’re worth the pain of a little dog babysitting ;). I hope Buster behaved! (your dog’s name is Buster, isn’t it? my brain is taking a holiday LOL).
