Buffy’s Corner 10/22/23 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

It’s Fall in the mountains, and in addition to the beautiful weather we’ve been having, some of the trees are turning colors. Our big maple tree on the corner is turning yellow (although I really hoped for orange or red leaves, it’s still pretty). Here are a couple of photos, our maple tree and a photo of Badger my hubby took. I hope everyone has a good week!

Upcoming reads & reviews:

Can you believe it’s the last full week of October? Once again I feel like “where did the time go??” I’m hoping to get three more reviews up this month, so look for My Darling Girl and Nestlings this week for sure. I’ve just cracked open These Burning Stars, so I might not get a review up until next week. After that, I’m hoping to start The Paleontologist.

Other posts this week:

On Tuesday, I’m going rogue with Top Ten Tuesday and highlighting my Favorite Horror Books of 2023 So Far; and Wednesday I have some exciting cover reveals on Future Fiction.

  1. We have a few turning leaves but we have mostly Oak and they just turn brown blah. Badger is so cute! I have no clue where October went! Goodness.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  2. Yesterday I went on a road trip with my father and we thought it might be nice to drive over Skyline Drive atop the mountains in Shenandoah National Park to see how the leaves were. But it appeared the entire state of Virginia had the same thought and the lines of cars trying to get into the park stretched for what seemed a mile. We’d have sat for hours on the road just trying to get in, so we skipped it and kept on driving. Interesting the timing of Moses’ photo of the bald eagle, as just after we passed the park we were driving along a road that parallels the mountains and came over a small hill to find a bald eagle flying directly at the car with a carcass of some kind in its talons. When we were just about on it, with me breaking fast as I could, when the eagle realized it couldn’t get enough elevation fast enough and dropped its meal and flew off. We’d never had that experience bef0re. 🙂 I’m hoping, and guessing, it returned when the road cleared to try again.

Great story, maybe you weren’t meant to go to the park so you could experience the eagle:-) Although I’m sure the fall colors are spectacular!

  3. I love maple trees, they have such a beautiful sound and astonishing colours.
    Badger is really coming on.
I’m currently desperately trying to finish my last SPFBO semi finalists – thankfully I’m on track, but I also have four or five review books too – eek, I just don’t know how October got the better of me – well,I still have a few days left.

  4. With so much on my plate in November I wasn’t going to read the Paleontologist but I saw the audio book on offer and screw it, I think I’m going to request it! Also starting Nestlings today, very excited!

  5. That maple is still stunning – it’s such a striking colour in amongst all the golds and reds of autumn, Tammy. With the eerily mild weather – our trees are still hanging onto their leaves and they are only starting to change as we’ve only had one frost so far this year. When the winter weather finally strikes – it’s going to be a shock! I love the pic of Badger. Have a great week:)).

  6. Cool bald eagle!
Just a few blocks away from my house, I saw 2 ospreys yesterday, and a Cooper’s Hawk today – swooping to get a squirrel (it didn’t work) in the middle of a street – I heard the swoosh of its wings and turned to see that scene!
I am curious about The Paleontologist
