Buffy’s Corner 7/18/21 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

As I write this, I’m in the middle of Buffy Season Four and I’m having so much fun:-) Hubby and I just got Hulu (not sure why it took so long) and Buffy, Angel and Firefly are all on there, so lots of good times ahead. Hope everyone had a good week!

Upcoming reviews:

I’m determined to get three reviews up this week! First, on Monday will be The Past is Red by Catherynne M. Valente. Wow, I loved this. Another great novella from Tor.com. I’m currently reading The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward and this book is so strange! I hear there’s a mind blowing twist coming up but so far I’m just confused, lol. And Transmuted is pretty short, so I believe I can squeeze that in and review it later in the week. I have to say I haven’t been doing very well with Horror in July, I think I’ve only got one or two reviews up so far. I gave up on The Barrens, which I started reading last week. At about 40% I was forcing myself to read a very poorly written story that didn’t make any sense, so unfortunately I had to email the author and tell him I wasn’t going to review it. I hate doing that!

Upcoming reads:

I’m looking at my calendar and realizing that JULY IS ALMOST OVER!! I need another week, please? These are the books I’ll be reading this week in order to post reviews next week, which is the last week of July. Shoot. All three of these are July releases, and these take precedent over some of the horror titles I wanted to read but aren’t being released this month. I’ve been hearing amazing things about Come With Me and Rovers, so those are two I can’t wait to start. And I’d love to round out the month and read City of Iron and Dust. Let’s see how much I can read this week, lol.

Other posts:

Tuesday I’m thinking of doing an indie horror book haul post. I’ve been shopping for self published/small press horror and I have a handful of titles I’m excited to read! Wednesday I have some new covers to share on Future Fiction; and the Friday Face-Off is “black hole.”

In case you missed:

Here are my posts from last week:

The Friday Face-Off: “Book” in the Title

A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers – Review 4.5/5 stars

Future Fiction #133

The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix – Review 4/5 stars

  1. The woodpecker is adorable!! And it seems like there is a lot waiting for you next week!!
I hope to start City of Iron and Dust soon, too! Let’s hope we would both love it!!

  2. The big twist in The Last House on Needless Street was so emotional for me. I hope you end up liking the book. I really think it’s brilliant, but I realize it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I’m looking forward to your Malfi review!

OMGosh, what a cool woodpecker photo! Doesn’t your sweetie have a photography book out? You should plug it more often. He’s so talented!

I just finished it, and wow! I really loved it. I have to say I’m terrible at guessing twists and I did not see it coming:-)

  3. A Buffy rewatch does sound like fun, as would Firefly. Those are series I enjoyed enough that I’d purchased both series on DVD back in the day. Will have to pull those back out and see if they still play. 🙂 And the pose of that acorn woodpecker is just too funny.

I have all my favorite shows on DVD too. It is nice that they are streaming, though. It’s much easier than putting a DVD in the player, lol.

  4. I always want to read more and read faster. But even though I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO, and CBS all access I don’t watch them (my daughter does). The last time I watched any tv was early March. There are some things I would like to watch so hopefully now that it is too hot for much yardwork I’ll watch a bit. Robin is reviewing City of Iron & Dust.

  5. Can’t wait to see your reviews for this week!! To bad that one didn’t work out, I hate having to tell an author you didn’t like their stuff. 🙁

Have a great week and happy reading!

  6. Looks like your Horror in July is going well! I’m reading Final Girl now and hopefully will get to Rovers, Needless Street and City of Iron and Dust soon too. OMG I really hope you’ll love Come With Me!

  7. Can’t wait to see what you made of Last House. It’s a very unusual book but I loved it and certainly didn’t see the twist coming.
I haven’t got to as much horror as I’d hoped either. Last week I did very little reading and now I’m in a spot where I really need to just press on with my review books and SPFBO. I might try and see if I can squeeze something shorter in.
    Lynn 😀

  8. I can’t wait for your thoughts on The Rovers. Just so you know, your opinion will probably make or break whether I order my own copy. I’m envisioning loving it as much as The Suicide Motor Club. Here’s hoping!
