Buffy’s Corner 7/11/21 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

Hope everyone survived the 4th of July! So my husband, as you know, loves to take photos of birds in the wild, and he got an exciting opportunity this past week. He’s going to Hawaii later in the year for a corporate shoot, and he wanted to stay a few extra days and take wildlife photos, since he’s never been there before. Long story short, he hooked up with a private tour guide who is arranging for him to photograph an endangered bird called an ‘i’iwi for the local wildlife agency. Sounds cool, right?

Upcoming reviews:

I’m pushing for three reviews this week, but it might just be two, we’ll see. On Monday, look for my review of A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers. This was simply delightful! I’ll also be reviewing Grady Hendrix’s latest, The Final Girl Support Group, which I should be finished with by the time this post goes up. And if I can finish it and find time to write a third review, I’d love to get a post up for The Barrens by Joe Goodglass.

Upcoming reads:

I’m hoping for a horror filled week, starting with The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward. After that, I’m planning on reading Come With Me by Ronald Malfi, and I’d love to squeeze in another shorter book like Transmuted by Eve Harms.

Other posts:

Yesterday was the official 10th anniversary of Books, Bones & Buffy, and I had plans to post a look back at some of the highs and lows of the blog. But shoot, I just couldn’t pull it together, for some reason. All of my ideas seemed so lame, lol. But hopefully I can get motivated to post something this week. It’s sort of a big milestone and I don’t want it to just go by without acknowledging it in some way. I’ve got more cover reveals to share on Future Fiction on Wednesday, and the Friday Face-Off is “books with the word ‘book’ in the title.” That should be fun!

In case you missed…

  1. Your hubby’s year-end trip sounds like it’ll be really cool! And that last pic was just incredible! Congratulations on blogging for 10 YEARS, Tammy! That’s amazing and crazy hard work! Can’t even imagine the work you’ve put into this blog so far! So glad to be part of the family! Hope you have a great week ahead!

  2. I can’t wait to see what you think of The Final Girls Support Group, I am a little meh right now with it but maybe it will get better I am only 16% into it. Congrats on 10 years of blogging and that is so cool that your husband will be able to go with that group to take pics! He should freelance for wildlife magazines. 🙂

  3. Happy 10th anniversary! It’s amazing that your husband gets to go to Hawaii and also do some of his own photography. It’s such a beautiful place to visit. I finished Final Girls Support Group and it wasn’t too horror for me. The things which were horror feel sort of campy and unrealistic to me sometimes.

Thanks Anne! Yes, the Final Girl Support Group was really campy, and I really enjoyed it:-)

  4. I’m so happy to hear about the wildlife photography opportunity that corporate job provided your husband, very cool! I hope he has a great trip. 10 years, I still think that’s amazing. You could try for very, VERY long post and show every cover you’ve ever reviewed. 😉 I thought it was funny that the first book cover below your mention of this Friday’s theme of a book with book in the title was The Book of Accidents. And that last photo of the lizards reminds me of an old west shootout with two opponents slowly circling one another looking for an opportunity. 🙂

LOL wow that would be a long post, and it’s stressing me out just thinking about it, lol. And shoot, you’ve guessed the book I picked for The Friday Face-Off;-)

  5. Will

Wow, 10 years. I can barely keep focused for back to back months Anyway, I feel like maybe a plaque or a… book… thing would be a nice touch to honor the anniversary! Congratulations!!

btw what do you mean HE’S going? Surely you mean YOU’RE going and graciously allowing him to tag along? That must be it

LOL I know I should go, right? I’m not much of a traveler. Plus I need to stay home with my dogs. Let me see if I can come up with any more excuses…

  6. Congrats on 10 years! That is such an impressive milestone. That’s so cool about your hubby and Hawaii. Sounds like a once in a lifetime experience. Good luck getting all of your books read and reviews written. I’m really looking forward to your review for The Final Girl Support Group.

  7. Your husbands’ trip sounds so cool! I bet he’ll have an amazing time.
I have a copy of The Last House on Needless Street waiting for me as well and I can’t wait to check it out! I hope you enjoy it, I’ll be excited to hear your thoughts. 🙂 Come With Me looks really intriguing, also! And wow–congratulations on ten years! It’s a huge milestone and accomplishment.

I’m going to start Needless Street today! I can’t believe how early I’m reading it, lol. Not like me at all!

  8. What an amazing opportunity for your husband! That’s awesome. I need to read your review of The Final Girl Support Group. I am anxious to read that one. I love the cover of The Last House on Needless Street. I hope it was good! Congratulations on 10 years! I hope you have a great weekend and week ahead, Tammy.
