I’m currently enjoying a long weekend, which will come to an end all too soon! The weather has been very nice, but we have a heatwave coming this week, with temps going up 10-15 degrees, ugh. I’m writing this on Saturday, and we have a quiet 4th of July planned, which is OK with me. Not much else to report, so I hope everyone has a safe holiday and a good week!
Upcoming reads & reviews:
This week I’m sharing reviews of The Inn at the Foot of Mount Vengeance and The Exquisite Torment of Loving Your Enemy, both books with ridiculously long titles, lol. And then I really need a break from fantasy, so I think I’ll read Mudlark next. I have a bunch of July releases I need to get going on, but I’m eyeing an early August release that I just can’t put off any longer, Be Still My Unbeating Heart.

Heatwave…UUUUUGH. Our temps are going to ramp up again in a few days…not like they’re mild at the present. I hope the weather shows some mercy where you live, since you’re not in the city at least…
Curious to hear what you make of Josh’s book. I wonder if the ARC has the acknowledgments in place, because in that case, you should see my name in them…;D

I had a quiet 4th too which was nice. Got to see at least 6 different fireworks shows from the yard so that was interesting.
I used to do that when I lived in Los Angeles, you could stand on the back porch and see three or four different fireworks shows:-)

We got a tiny cool down with the rain that came on the 4th, making for the coolest 4th I can remember! Which was nice for sitting out to watch fireworks. I’d be okay with no fireworks either, but I enjoy the family time we have, and seeing my niece and nephew get to enjoy the fireworks. Slowly catching up on your reviews, so many good books!
I grew up with fireworks as a kid, like sparklers, but my kids never got to do them. It’s pretty much illegal in most parts of California, although so many people don’t care and do them anyway.
Our heat wave was this past week through today with temps over 100 and high and heavy humidity. Last night on the 4th there were some damaging thunderstorms that went through the area with some places close by seeing winds of 80 mph and quarter sized hail. Thankfully, they seemed to pass right by my neighborhood, keeping fingers crossed that continues. This coming week looks like thunderstorms and rain just about every day but cooler weather. Stay cool as the temps go up! And what a beautiful backlit photo of Badger on the trail.
That’s crazy, Todd! I have been hearing that we’re in for a lot of rain and storms this summer, all over the country. Stay safe and cool!

I’m having a quiet 4th of July weekend too! We just had the heat wave where I am at – hope it isn’t too bad for you.
It’s not too bad yet, but later in the week we’ll probably have to run the air conditioning, sigh.

Sorry you are heading toward a heatwave. We just had one. I actually didn’t mind the heat, but hated the insane mega thunderstorms and the torrential rains. We had a 10 year event in my city. And lost power for 13 hours.

Thank you! It’s crazy how draining the heat can be, right? I’ve stocked my freezer with popsicles. I find they are a good way to cool down:-)
We’ve been having a heatwave too. It gives me an excuse to sit down and read because it’s simply exhausting just thinking of moving about! (although oddly I’ve been on some sort of weird cleaning mania). The dogs have other ideas of course – they always want a walk!

Yay Badger! I’ll have to look up Mudlark because I don’t remember about it. It’s been around 100 and then the real feel higher in NC while I’ve been gone. I’ve missed a lot of extreme heat as I went north. Yay for a long weekend.

I love checking out all of the Summer of Horror posts! Our heatwave has finally broken, thankfully. I hope yours doesn’t last too long.

I hope you’re still enjoying your long weekend – and bad luck with the upcoming heatwave, you have my profound sympathy! We are also supposed to get getting hotter – thankfully here, it’s due to stay in the 70s, with maybe one day nudging into the 80s which is nothing like as bad as it was a couple of weeks ago. I hope the week isn’t too trying – and Badger, as ever, looks magnificent!!
It’s been beastly hot this week, but hopefully there is some cooler weather on the way!
