Buffy’s Corner 5/10/26 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer.

First of all, happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there! I have a slightly different Badger photo today, just the tip of his nose. I love it, and I really need to ask the hubby how he managed to get it, because that dog does not stand still, and this is a tricky angle.

Did anyone see the news that Daniel Kraus won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction for Angel Down? That is so cool, especially since he’s a speculative fiction author and Angel Down is basically fantasy/horror. The stats for my review have also jumped since the announcement!

Upcoming reads & reviews:

I will be posting my review of Death’s Daughter tomorrow, which was a lot of fun! I’m currently reading The Fake Divination Offense and will have a review up later this week. I had a funny thing happen with the ARC for this one. I started reading it and realized the inside of the book was a completely different book! But the cover is correct. So someone at the printers messed up I guess. Luckily I also had the eARC so I could read it! Strange Familiars will definitely be next, and after that I’m jumping in to The Gatepost.

Other posts this week:

Tuesday I’m joining Top Ten Tuesday for “May Flowers,” always a fun prompt! And Wednesday will be Future Fiction as usual.

In case you missed:

I can now say I’ve read a Pulitzer Prize winning book before it was a winner, lol.

  1. I remember your review of Angel Down and I really love that it won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction since it’s fantasy/horror. I tried looking for it at a bookstore the other day but they didn’t have it yet. Maybe I’ll get it on audio instead. But anyways it’s just cool a book like that won.

I know they are reprinting a paperback with the “Pulitzer Prize Winner” stamp on the front, I’m sure they weren’t expecting it to win!

This was a first for me! I did back a Kickstarter project years ago and when the book came, the pages were literally sewn into the book out of order, it was crazy! Luckily they sent me a new book, since I paid a lot for it.

  2. “I had a funny thing happen with the ARC for this one. I started reading it and realized the inside of the book was a completely different book! But the cover is correct. So someone at the printers messed up I guess. Luckily I also had the eARC so I could read it!”
That’s tricky LOL. Is the other book one you might be interested in? and anyway, would you even be allowed to write a review for it if you were?
A thing like that happened to me once, but it was just a digital ARC available on NG, and the publisher uploaded the correct one later.

I love Badger’s pic, and the Snow Plant! He must have been puzzled by it LOL. You and me too, boy :).

I actually started reading the book and it took me a few pages to catch on that this couldn’t possibly be right, lol. It’s a collection of short mystery stories and I don’t usually enjoy collections, but maybe?? LOL I did reach out to the publicist and let her know and she said I wasn’t the only person to have that issue. She also offered me a finished copy (which I was not expecting at all)

  3. So was the incorrect book inside the ARC anything good? lol. Love that picture of Badger! I want pictures of my two when they go sniff the peonies but they move so fast I always miss. I’m so behind with reading your reviews, don’t remember the book you’re talking about with the award, so may have to go check your review out again. Hope you have a good week!

Good question! It was actually a collection of short mystery stories by a writer I’ve never heard of, so I probably won’t read it. But it was funny when I figured it out!

Honestly, if you didn’t like The Buffalo Hunter Hunter, Angel Down might be a struggle. It’s sort of the same in many ways.

  4. Haha oh gosh I’ve never had that happen with a physical arc before! Whoopsie! I’m not making fast progress on my current read (have a lot of house work stuff to finish up with the new flooring etc) so I don’t know when I’ll get to STRANGE FAMILIARS, but I hope we both love it when we get to it!

    • Tammy

Me too! I’m finishing up my current read today so hopefully I’ll dive into it next.

  5. “Badger and the Snow Plant” should be the name of a children’s or middle grade book with that photo as the cover. 🙂 That’s funny the ARC cover vs insides issue you ran into. I remember returning a book for an exchange when I discovered after I’d started reading it that it was missing an entire chunk of pages that the printer had somehow dropped. Thankfully I’d started reading it right away and not years later, possibly after the bookstore disappeared.

LOL I like it:-). That’s interesting about that printing error. I guess it happens more often than you think!

  6. That photo of Badger’s nose is amazing! What is that extraordinary plant he’s sniffing? How annoying about the arc with the printing error – and what a nightmare for the poor author! Thank goodness you had an ebook as well. I hope this week is proving to be a good one:)).

I think it’s called a Snow Plant, and they grow in early spring in higher elevations.

  7. What a strange thing to happen with that book that had the correct cover but wrong content! I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that before. All’s well that ends well though.
    Badger’s nose – he’s so cute. I’m obsessed with Noodle’s pink booper. She’s also such a cutie.
    Lynn 😀
