Buffy’s Corner 1/4/26 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer.

I hope everyone had a nice New Years! Of course, I spent New Year’s Eve watching the finale of Stranger Things. OMG it was so good! I loved the ambiguous ending, and yes, I cried. I plan on rewatching the entire series at some point. Any fans out there?

I also watched A Man Called Otto for the first time, and it was amazing. Now I need to go back and read the book:-)

We’ve barely had a break from the rain here. A state of emergency was declared in our little town (and other parts of California as well), as people are still trying to dig out of the mud. The town is closed to everyone except residents, so you have to show ID in order to get it. I have to say that’s been a big pain, but they are trying to keep tourists out since there are so many trucks trying to clean things up. I think we’ve had over 13 inches of rain in the last two weeks!

After a lovely week and a half off work, it’s back to the grind tomorrow. Not looking forward to it, but I guess real life has to start sometime. I hope everyone has a good week full of good books:-D

Upcoming reads & reviews:

Because I read a bunch of January releases in December, I’m starting off the year a little bit ahead and will post three reviews this week. Tomorrow, come back for my review of The Storm, which I loved! And later in the week look for reviews of Through Gates of Garnet and Gold and Definitely Maybe Not a Detective. I’m currently reading How to Lose a Goblin in Ten Days, which is very cute and low stakes:-)

Other posts this week:

Tuesday is the big day: I’m participating in Top Ten Tuesday and sharing my Best Books of 2025, don’t miss it! And Wednesday kicks off the first Future Fiction of the year.

  1. Happy New Year and happy reading. That is alot of rain, I hope it lets up soon. Badger is a wise one, he always looks so pensive.

I rewatched all of Stranger Things this past fall but still have not watched the new season. I need to soon. I had forgotten what a masterpiece that Running Up That Hill scene in season 4 was with Max. Her character arc was so good, she’s a fav. And the whole Joyce /Hopper/Russia season 4 storyline…. gold! And Eddie! “I didn’t run away this time”. I will admit that I teared up even with the rewatch.

  2. It is crazy how much rain you are getting. I just finished rewatching season 4 last night. Now I’m ready to start season 5! I am excited to see how it will all go. I do have to say I kept thinking with this rewatch, why aren’t their parents there looking for them? Like especially in season 4 how Joyce just runs off to Russia, lol. Badger is adorable as always, and he looks so regal in the pic! I am also not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.

I hope you love Season 5! It’s very emotional:-) And yep, some of the parents are absent in season 5 too.

  3. I have seen th floods hitting California on TV. So many lost their belongings! I hope the rain will stop soon Tammy. And I will be back to work tomorrow too…

  4. Vi

A Man Named Otto is a great read. I have the movie on my “to watch” shortlist. Working my way through the previous seasons of Stranger Things. I had forgotten so many details.

There are so many little details in ST, it’s fun to rewatch all the seasons to see what you missed:-)

  5. Good luck digging out after the storm! I haven’t watched the final season of Stranger Things yet, but I’m glad to hear it was good! I really liked a man called Otto too (and for comparison, it’s worth checking out the Swedish version)… Going back to the grind is so hard to think about! Sigh.

  6. That’s a beautiful picture! I want to read How to Lose a Goblin in Ten Days, so I’m happy to see you’re enjoying it. As you already know, The Storm was one I really liked also! I look forward to reading your review.

  7. Whew, so much rain! We ‘ll have to deal with snow and ice until March but we’re all kind of used to it and it’s a good reason to stay home on the stormy days. We just finished Stranger Things. I think they did they right by the characters in the end. I’m sad it’s over but it was a good place to end the series.

  8. I live in southern California, so we got some rain, but definitely not as much as the rest of the state does. I hope everyone in your town is safe and that they are able to make headway with any repairs they may have to do. How to Lose a Goblin sounds really cute. I will have to add that one to my TBR. Hope you have a lovely week!

  9. I hope that the weather is better now and that things are getting better!! And I also hope that going back to work wasn’t too traumatic!!
Definitely Maybe Not A Detective sounds like fun!!

  10. Wow, I hope the cleanup continues to go well. Sounds like a bit of a mess. Glad to hear you enjoyed Stranger Things. I loved the first couple seasons, which is all I’ve had access to so far, though I’d love to watch the rest of the series. I loved some of Fredrik Backman’s other books so I’m looking forward to reading A Man Called Ove. Kind of funny how they changed the movie name to Otto. I’ll probably give that a watch, too.

  11. That’s a lot of rain and glad you guys are okay. And Mr. Badger is looking mighty curious. I took a brief blogging hiatus as I was off for 2 weeks and just kind of detoxed. I did read though and now have to catch up on reviews. We watched Stranger Things too and yes, I also cried (but I think the Prince song had something to do with it). LOVE LOVE LOVE that they included him and now a new generation is looking into his music. Mr. Barb even got me an Eleven Funko for Christmas. It’s so sad to see it end. Stay safe and hope you have a wonderful 2026!

  12. We have also been having a lot of rain. Seriously, I have had enough of it now! Hope all the mud digging is over for you all soon and you settle back into work easily.
    Lynn 😀

  13. I finished, “Through Gates of Garnet and Gold,” and I LOVED it! I’m curious to see the direction the author takes with the future of the series! I hope you enjoyed it, too!
