Happy New Year! I’m feeling good about 2026, and I have a nice bunch of January releases coming up. I’m happy to say I’ve already read four of these and I’m currently reading a fifth, so I feel like the month is already off to a good start. Getting ahead will also leave room to read some February releases early (I hope!), and I’m trying to squeeze in a non review book each month if I can (check back later in the month for my 2026 reading and challenge goals). Here are the books I will be reading and reviewing this month:
The Storm by Rachel Hawkins. I’ve read this and loved it! Rachel Hawkins really knows how to write twisty, page-turner stories, and her latest was excellent. My review will be up next Monday!
A Box Full of Darkness by Simone St. James. I’ve also read this one, and wow, it was amazing. I’ll post my review in a couple of weeks!
How to Lose a Goblin in Ten Days by Jessie Sylva. Of course I need a cozy read to offset some of these darker books, and I think this will be perfect!
Enchanting the Fae Queen by Stephanie Burgis. I loved the first book in the series, and I’ve been excited about this follow-up ever since:-)
Detour by Jeff Rake & Rob Hart. I’m a huge Rob Hart fan, so anytime he announces a new book, I’m all over it:-)
On Sundays She Picked Flowers by Yah Yah Scholfield. I’m always drawn to Southern Gothic horror, and I’ve heard good things about this. I can’t wait!
House of Splinters by Laura Purcell. This is a sequel to The Silent Companions, or at least it’s set in the same world. I’m super curious to see how it lives up to the first book.
Silver & Blood by Jessie Mihalik. I don’t even know what this is about, but I love this author so of course I’m reading it!
Through Gates of Garnet and Gold by Seanan McGuire. I’ve read this one and really enjoyed it! Look for a review next week.
Definitely Maybe Not a Detective by Sarah Fox. I’ve read this too, and even though it’s completely outside my normal genres, I had a lot of fun with it!
We Should Have Left Well Enough Alone by Ronald Malfi. This is a short story collection from one of my favorite authors.

Looking forward to your reviews for Seanan McGuire and Simone St. James’ new books! I can’t wait to read them!
I hope you love them too!
Same as Lauren above. Have a great (reading) year!
Thanks Roberta! I hope you do as well.
Ahh, lovely list. We have a few books in common and I will pick up a copy of the Storm as soon as its available.
Lynn 😀
Enjoy The Storm, I had so much fun with it.
Happy New Year, may all your reads be awesome!
Thank you Stormi! I hope yours are awesome too.
I’m plan on reading the Stephanie Burgis and Jessie Mihalik, and I’m half way thru Detour.
We will have some notes to compare:-)
Today, I’m starting the latest entry in “Wayward Children”!!!
I hope you love it!
Beyond Gates of Garnet & Gold, I’m also planning to read Detour — although I see a bunch of others here that look good, and I”ll be looking forward to your reviews!
I am excited about Detour, I hope we both love it:-)
Can’t wait to read your thoughts on A Box Full of Darkness! I always enjoy Simone St. James’ books. And Happy New Year! 😀
It was sooo good! Happy New Year Lark!
I have Enchanting the Fae Queen ready for this month as well. But first, all those january 6th releases, oi.
OMG so many January releases!
Looks like an awesome line up!
Thanks! I’m excited to read all of them:-)
I see a few titles that are already quite popular, have fun!
I’ll have one recent and one upcoming release, all the rest are older books: https://wordsandpeace.com/2026/01/01/the-top-7-books-to-read-in-january-2026/
I plan to, thanks!
Enjoy, there are a few here I’d like to read too 🙂
I’m really excited about Enchanting the Fae Queen, too! I’m just waiting (im)patiently for my preorders of that book and Through Gates of Garnet and Gold to come in.
I read How to Lose a Goblin and I want to read Stephanie Burgis and Simone st James books!
It sounds like you’re off to a fantastic start with your January reading and have some wonderful books liked up for the rest of the month too. I always forget you get Laura Purcell’s books later than the UK but I’ll definitely be watching out for your thoughts on House Of Splinters. The title of that Ronald Malfi collection sounds chilling and the goblin one sounds cute. I hope you have a lovely month and enjoy all of these
How many intriguing books!! We share How to Lose A Goblin… And I am really excited about it! But the new Mihalik book sounds great too! And the new Burgis one!!
I think one or two of these might be on my Goodreads TBR, not for this month or anything, just to read at some point. I look forward to your reviews of the ones you get to!
