What’s On My Plate – January 2026

Happy New Year! I’m feeling good about 2026, and I have a nice bunch of January releases coming up. I’m happy to say I’ve already read four of these and I’m currently reading a fifth, so I feel like the month is already off to a good start. Getting ahead will also leave room to read some February releases early (I hope!), and I’m trying to squeeze in a non review book each month if I can (check back later in the month for my 2026 reading and challenge goals). Here are the books I will be reading and reviewing this month:

The Storm by Rachel Hawkins. I’ve read this and loved it! Rachel Hawkins really knows how to write twisty, page-turner stories, and her latest was excellent. My review will be up next Monday!

A Box Full of Darkness by Simone St. James. I’ve also read this one, and wow, it was amazing. I’ll post my review in a couple of weeks!

How to Lose a Goblin in Ten Days by Jessie Sylva. Of course I need a cozy read to offset some of these darker books, and I think this will be perfect!

Enchanting the Fae Queen by Stephanie Burgis. I loved the first book in the series, and I’ve been excited about this follow-up ever since:-)

Detour by Jeff Rake & Rob Hart. I’m a huge Rob Hart fan, so anytime he announces a new book, I’m all over it:-)

On Sundays She Picked Flowers by Yah Yah Scholfield. I’m always drawn to Southern Gothic horror, and I’ve heard good things about this. I can’t wait!

House of Splinters by Laura Purcell. This is a sequel to The Silent Companions, or at least it’s set in the same world. I’m super curious to see how it lives up to the first book.

Silver & Blood by Jessie Mihalik. I don’t even know what this is about, but I love this author so of course I’m reading it!

Through Gates of Garnet and Gold by Seanan McGuire. I’ve read this one and really enjoyed it! Look for a review next week.

Definitely Maybe Not a Detective by Sarah Fox. I’ve read this too, and even though it’s completely outside my normal genres, I had a lot of fun with it!

We Should Have Left Well Enough Alone by Ronald Malfi. This is a short story collection from one of my favorite authors.

Do we have any books in common this month? What books are you looking forward to reading?

  1. It sounds like you’re off to a fantastic start with your January reading and have some wonderful books liked up for the rest of the month too. I always forget you get Laura Purcell’s books later than the UK but I’ll definitely be watching out for your thoughts on House Of Splinters. The title of that Ronald Malfi collection sounds chilling and the goblin one sounds cute. I hope you have a lovely month and enjoy all of these
