Future Fiction #363 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

It’s the last Future Fiction of 2025, and I have three 2026 releases to share, take a look:

The Martins need a new home for their growing family. For Alison, Nathan, daughter Dru, and foster child Lailah, it’s love at first sight when they see the house in Tumbling Hills. It even has a cozy attic, which is great for Lailah: she needs a quiet place to be alone when her intrusive thoughts creep in.

(crack an egg into the coffee machine)

The family gets settled. The house is perfect, and so is the timing – Lailah’s adoption will soon be finalized. But as the date approaches, her intrusive thoughts become worse, and bad things start to happen. Lailah fears she’s losing control.

(push your sister down the stairs)

The family is on edge, pointing fingers and taking sides. And even though they love each other very much, the cracks begin to show. Something has got to give.

(burn them alive in their beds)

Worry Box by Chris Panatier. Releases in September 2026 from Angry Robot. I recently heard about Worry Box from the publisher, so it was already on my TBR. Now I’m excited to see the cover! This sounds very creepy and disturbing, and the cover has a vintage paperback feel to it. I’m curious….

RITES OF THE STARLING is the epic, heart-pounding sequel to Devney Perry’s #1 New York Times-bestselling SHIELD OF SPARROWS. A princess journeys across a cursed realm to find the truth about her family, only to discover her quest intertwines with the fate of a lost warrior. Love, danger and magic collide in a captivating romantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros.

Calandra’s five kingdoms are on the verge of destruction. The crux migration is coming. And in the wake of a devastating attack, I’ve been separated from the man who owns my heart.

I’m lost. Terrified. Homesick. Hunted by monsters, driven to exhaustion, and kidnapped by a powerful priest, the only thing keeping me going is the little girl counting on me to keep her safe. It’s my turn to become the Guardian.

Our lives change one fateful night. A night of death. A night of monsters. A night of truths. That night, I learn the real meaning of fear—and the depth of my own strength.

Everyone wants me to be something I’m not—a queen, a spy, a sacrifice. But what if I embrace my crown? What if the secrets I uncover save our realm?

What if my sacrifice means salvation for the man I love?

For too long, I’ve feared the monsters we make.

It’s time to discover the monster within.

Rites of the Starling (Shield of Sparrows #2) by Devney Perry. Releases in April 2026 from Red Tower Books. I loved Shield of Sparrows, and I’m excited to read the conclusion to this duology!

For fans of Jennifer Thorne’s Diavola and We Have Always Lived in the Castle comes William Friend’s latest stunning novel following a young woman’s return to her family’s crumbling chateau to stay with her aging aunt – but grief, mystery, and something undead haunts her family, and soon, a dark history will repeat itself.

“In the woods… between the trees…”

Morwenna knows she needs to visit Bethan. Her aunt is wasting away in the family’s crumbling chateau by the French seaside, where she’s lived alone since the mysterious disappearance of her husband. The locals claim Bethan is responsible, though Morwenna knows her aunt is simply declining and in desperate need of company.

Grief lives in that house, and Morwenna has avoided it for years. Until a disturbing phone call from Barbara finally pushes her to act. So she packs up her children and new partner to stay for a week.

But the chateau changes people. Old magic has seeped into the ground. The village remembers what happened at the grand old house, centuries ago. They remember who died, and what came back. Soon, this place will leave its mark on Morwenna’s family. And she cannot escape the feeling that, unless she learns the truth about what happened to her uncle, something ancient and evil will rise, and a dark history will repeat itself at the chateau.

And the Sea Gave Up the Dead by William Friend. Releases in August from Poisoned Pen Press. This sounds so good! Also the cover is very creepy. Count me in:-)

  1. I have yet to read Shield of Sparrows but it’s on my TBR so I hope to get to it, sooner or later! And the new Panatier’s book sounds pretty intriguing. Not really my cup of tea, but it still sounds interesting and I really enjoyed his other books so… Who knows?!

  2. I definitely need to make sure I’ve read Shield Of Sparrows before the sequel releases. I just keep hoping I can find a reasonably priced copy of the special edition I missed (or that the store will restock). The last of these sounds intriguing too.
