Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!
Welcome to my July book haul, which is, um, pretty big. It was a very good month for books in the mail, but I showed a lot of restraint on NetGalley at least! Here are my newest books for review:
Books in the mail for review:

First up, from the lovely folks at Orbit books (these two are from imprints Run For It and Redhook), I received Moonflow by Bitter Karella. I understand this is super weird, and I can’t wait to find out more!
And I’m thrilled to have a copy of The Faerie Morgana by Louisa Morgan. Morgan is one of my favorite authors and I never miss her new books:-)
Big thanks to Tor Books for the next five books! I adore the cover of The Works of Vermin by Hiron Ennes and it’s getting awesome reviews so far.
Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle sounds absurd in the best kind of way, and this is an August release that I’ll be reading soon.
I’ve already read The Enchanted Greenhouse by Sarah Beth Durst, and it was a lovely, cozy entry into her series. I’m in love with this finished copy that has sprayed green edges!
I’ve also read and loved The Library at Hellebore by Cassandra Khaw, and extra special thanks to Tor Nightfire for this beautiful finished copy, which also has sprayed edges.
Finally from Tor, I received The Girl in the Creek by Wendy N. Wagner, a late July release that I am currently reading.
And huge thanks to Ace Books for sending a finished copy of The Irresistible Urge to Fall For Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley, which I have already read and reviewed!

With thanks to Titan Books for Secret Lives of the Dead by Tim Lebbon. Lebbon is an author I’ve really enjoyed in the past, so this should be fun.
All of Us Murderers by K.J. Charles looks like a Victorian era queer romance/mystery, and although this wasn’t on my radar, I’m excited to check it out! Big thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for the review copy:-)
I was thrilled to receive a surprise package from Sharon Lynn Fisher, which of course turned out to be her upcoming release Tea & Alchemy! Hugs to Sharon, it’s a lovely ARC!
Berkley was kind enough to send over a finished copy of House of Monstrous Women by Daphne Fama, and I hope to read this soon since it’s an August release.
Also courtesy of Berkley, I’m very excited to read The Possession of Alba DÍaz by Isabel Cañas, whose specialty is historical Gothic horror. This sounds fantastic!
And huge thanks to Sourcebooks Landmark for sending me a finished copy of The Dead Husband Cookbook, which came with a wooden spoon and recipes! I’ll be reading this very soon.

I was super excited to receive a copy of Dot Slash Magic by Liz Shipton from the Angry Robot team! I’ve been curious about this book—described as a spicy urban fantasy involving AI—since it was announced. This is another August release, so look for a review soon!
The Formidable Miss Cassidy by Meihan Boey sounds like fun: it’s a historical fantasy that takes place in Singapore. Thank you to Harper Collins for this lovely copy:-)
Sunward by William Alexander is another book that wasn’t on my radar until Saga Press offered me a copy. This sounds like an uplifting found family sci fi story, and bonus it’s a short novella. Thank you Saga!
Now to switch over to thrillers, Other People’s Houses by Clare Macintosh looks like the third book in a series (that I haven’t read and didn’t realize this was a series, lol), but from the blurb, it appears it can be read as a standalone. With thanks to Sourcebooks Landmark!
Digital books for review:
I just featured A Fae in Finance by Juliet Brooks on Future Fiction, and I was excited to see it on NetGalley, so I grabbed it. It sounds like fun, plus there’s a cute cat on the cover.
Shiny Happy People by Clay McLeod Chapman is a YA horror story by a favorite author of mine, and I’m happy to be approved for this book. I have a (weird) soft spot for speculative fiction stories involving drugs, and I think this is going to be great!
The Blackfire Blade by James Logan. I requested a physical ARC but I don’t know if I’ll get one or not, so I had to download the NetGalley copy. I cannot miss this sequel to the amazing The Silverblood Promise!
Shitshow by Chris Panatier. Chris kindly sent me an eARC of his upcoming horror novella, and I cannot wait to dive in!
Finally, I’m excited to have a copy of C.J. Cooke’s upcoming book, The Last Witch. Isn’t this cover pretty?
Big thanks to Orbit Books, Tor Books, Chris Panatier, Berkley and Delacorte Press:-D

This is a great haul 😀
All of Us Murderers is one I’m curious about, so will look out for your review. Tea & Alchemy sounds good too and I already know I like the author’s writing so that’s definitely on my TBR list.
Hope you enjoy all your books!
I’m always excited for a new Sharon Lynn Fisher book:-)
Thanks for putting All of Us Murderers on my tbr. It’s been awhile since I’ve read KJ Charles. Happy reading, Tammy!
I swear everyone has read KJ Charles except me!
The Last Witch looks GREAT! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it 😀
I’m excited to read it, and I love the author so hopefully it will be a good one:-)
I am SO JEALOUS that you’ve got All of Us Murderers. (Although, your post inspired me to request it on NetGalley and I was auto approved by the publisher, so . . . thank you for your inspirational jealousy lol.)
A Fae in Finance also sounds amazing! That one’s going on my TBR. 🙂 Looking forward to seeing what you think about these!
I’m glad you got a copy of All of Us Murderers! A Fae in Finance sounds so different, which is one reason I want to read it:-)
What a fantastic group of books, I am incredibly jealous!
I’m feeling both lucky and overwhelmed, lol.
The title for The Dead Husband Cookbook cracked me up. You have a nice selection of books. Happy reading.
It’s a great title, right? Thanks Sherry:-)
Enjoy!
Thanks Emma!
Aahh, All of Us Murderers! I’m behind on KJ Charles’ last couple of books (bad me), but I really need to catch up, I love the look of this one. Hope you enjoy it!
I honestly had never heard of KJ Charles before so now I’m very curious:-)
That’s it, I am coming immediately to raid your bookshelves. Like DAAAAMN these are amazing! I definitely am curious to see what you think about Sunward, that one is on my “maybe” list. And now I am very curious about Shitshow, because how can you not be with that title heh. Cannot wait to hear your thoughts on like, every last one of these! Enjoy!
Come on over Shannon! And take some books with you, lol. I started Shitshow the other day and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun!
How many interesting books!! We share a couple: Dot Slash Magic and the sequel of The Silverblood Promise and I am sooooooooooooo excited about both! But there are a lot of interesting titles here! Especially All of Us Murderers, because I really enjoy that author, and Tea & Alchemy! I am curious to see what you will think of it!
I feel like the last person to know who KJ Charles is, lol. Now I’m more excited to read that book!
Great book haul. Makes my head spin but lots of good authors. I have the Louisa Morgan and can’t wait to tuck in.
Lynn 😀
Me too, I feel like it’s been way too long since her last book.
The Enchanted Greenhouse cover is awesome. AND it has sprayed edges? I’m such a sucker of sprayed edges! Enjoy reading!
Here’s my StS https://stuckinbooks.com/2025/07/26/stacking-the-shelves-7-25-25/
I’m a sucker for sprayed edges too, they are so hard to resist:-)
I also got THE FAERIE MORGANA in the mail and I’m excited to read it! I’m also eyeing A FAE IN FINANCE because lighter reads are just nice to throw into the mix.
I’m hoping to start The Faerie Morgana soon, especially since it’s longer than I expected…
You got so many books Tammy! And I got the Enchanted Greenhouse this week too!
I’m glad we both got The Enchanted Greenhouse, it’s a very pretty book:-)
Wow, the books just keep coming. Can you even see the top of the stacks anymore? 🙂
Ha ha barely:-)
wow the covers are covering. Looks so good. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
Thanks for visiting, Tracy!
Oh my goodness – what a haul! The one I do know about is The Formidable Miss Cassidy and I’ll be interested to read your take on it. Happy reading, Tammy:)).
I’m looking forward to it, it’s different from what I normally read:-)
This is a great haul! I’m really curious about A Fae in Finance. I hope you enjoy all of these!
Thanks Nicole!
These all looks so great! I need to see if Cassandra Khaw is an author I could like 🙂
Khaw isn’t for everyone, they do a lot of body horror, but their writing is so good.
I love that The Dead Husband Cookbook came with a spoon and recipes! Someone at the publicity department there has a wicked sense of humor! 😀
I loved that package, so creative:-)
So many good looking books! A Fae in Finance sounds fun.
