Buffy’s Corner 10/29/23 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

Winter is coming…it’s so cold as I’m writing this, I’ve pulled out my sweaters and heavy hoodies and pretty soon I’ll be dusting off my Doc Martens. At least there’s no rain/snow in the forecast! Here’s a recent Badger photo, isn’t he cute?

Upcoming reads & reviews:

I’m still working on These Burning Stars. It’s very dense and slow paced, although don’t get me wrong, I’m loving it! It’s just taking me longer to read than I expected. However, I will have a review up this week. I’m also hoping to review The Paleontologist as well. After that, I’m jumping into Sci Fi Month, and Earth Retrograde and Calamity will be the first two SF books I tackle.

Other posts this week:

It’s a very busy week! Of course, it’s the end of October, so look for my Reading Wrap-Up tomorrow; Tuesday is a Halloween Top Ten Tuesday freebie, and I’ll be highlighting upcoming 2024 horror, don’t miss it!; Wednesday might be double duty: It’s my November/Sci Fi Month kick-off, but I’d also like to do a Future Fiction post as well; and look for a book haul post on Saturday.

In case you missed:

My posts from last week:

Nestlings by Nat Cassidy – Review 4.5/5 stars

Future Fiction #250

Favorite Horror Books of 2023 So Far

My Darling Girl by Jennifer McMahon – Review 4/5 stars

  1. Looking forward to your review of These Burning Stars: I almost requested it, but then I saw some comments about the pacing that stopped me in my tracks. Now your mention of the “denseness” of the prose and of the story’s slow burn make me even more curious to learn more…

And Badger is made of cuteness! 🙂

I have to say it’s definitely not my normal kind of read, but wow she’s such a good writer, and there is an epic twist that will probably raise my rating:-)

  2. It definitely has NOT gotten cold here yet in northern VA. We hit 80F on Saturday and today is supposed to be another oddly warm day around 75. I’m not complaining…I love it and so do the squash I still have growing.

I’m currently reading CALAMITY because I’m abysmally behind on my October ARCs. So I figured I’d come back to them later, lol.

Enjoy the warm weather, and yum, I need to grow squash too, I love it:-) I hope you are enjoying Calamity!

  3. Really looking forward to your review of The Paleontologist. I’m also in Virginia and wowww has it been hot – I’ve been wearing shorts! Weather whiplash is about to hit though it’ll be like, 40 on Tuesday.

  4. I am not happy that it’s getting cold, to cold! I just knew this fall was going to be a short one as we are already having winter like temps. 🙁

Have a great week and happy reading!

  5. yes we might freeze one night this week and I have to protect my garden with things nearly ready to harvest. I’m always happy to have more Badger content. I’m also looking forward to SciFi month to add to my TBR as that’s a genre I enjoy a lot but don’t always find the titles.

  6. Yes… I suppose being in the mountains means the winters start early and end late. But at least you’re not constantly frying! That pic of Badger is adorable – but the size of his paws is impressive! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts of Earth Retrograde when you get to it… Have a great week, Tammy:).

  7. Badger is adorable!!! The mountain rain cloud picture is beautiful as well. We are cold now, and got a bit of snow flakes today! I still really needed to mow my grass at least one more time, so I”m hoping it warms up for another week for me to do that. If not, oh well! It has been a busy week too with getting end of the month post ready and other things. Hope you have a good week!

Thanks Lisa! I can’t believe you got some snow already. I hope you get a little more warm weather:-)

  8. Aw cute pic! And wow how is it almost Nov already? Although yay for SF Month. I’m looking forward to The Paleontologist too.

  9. Awww, Badger! ♥ After a few lovely fall days here, we’re back to the 80s here in Central Virginia. I took my son to tour a college campus this weekend and thought we were going to melt before the tour was over, haha.

  10. It’s been so cold at night and in my house! I bet it’s a heck of a lot colder for you, though, haha, so stay warm! Badger is absolutely adorable. I’m excited for your reviews of all your upcoming reads, especially The Paleontologist which I’m hoping to read soon. I’m intrigued by Calamity as well, but haven’t started it yet. I think I missed some of your posts from last week so I may be doing some catch up, lol. Hope you have a wonderful week!
