Over-Booked [179] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

It was a great couple of weeks for new book mail, take a look:

Books in the mail for review:

Huge thanks to Ace for a lovely finished copy of The Weaver and the Witch Queen by Genevieve Gornichec. I have not read Gornichec before, but readers seem to love her books. This comes out next week so I’m a bit behind and probably won’t review it until next month, but I am looking forward to it:-)

And I was thrilled to get a copy of The Carnivale of Curiosities by Amiee Gibbs, with thanks to Grand Central. This is a magical historical fantasy that’s been on my radar for a while, and I’m hoping I’ll love it.

I was drawn to What Never Happened by Rachel Howzell Hall because it takes place on Catalina Island, off the coast of Southern California. It sounds like a pretty good thriller! I’m late reading this as well, so it might be up next on the list. Thank you to Spark Point Studio and Thomas & Mercer:-D

Huge thanks to Titan Books for the next four ARCs! A Market of Dreams and Destiny by Trip Galey is a queer fantasy that sounds really good.

I’m beyond thrilled to have a copy of Bloom by Delilah S. Dawson. I wasn’t aware that this was a novella, it’s very short. But I loved Dawson’s last book and I’m curious to see what she does next.

Another short novella, The Pale House Devil by Richard Kadrey sounds intriguing. Two detectives, one alive and one dead, are hired to get rid of a monster. Could be fun!

Finally from Titan, In These Hallowed Halls: A Dark Academia Anthology with stories from authors I’m not that familiar with, to be honest. But I’m willing to check this out, since I’m a fan of dark academia.

Digital books for review:

With thanks to Del Rey for offering me copy of The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett! Bennett is such a unique writer, and I always look forward to his books.

I immediately downloaded a copy of Tusks of Extinction by Ray Nayler when it popped up on NetGalley. An eco-thriller about a dead scientist whose consciousness is uploaded to the brain of a mammoth in order to help the species? I mean how can you say no to that? Thank you Tordotcom:-)

And big thanks to Stephen Kozeniewski for offering a copy of The Thing Under Your Bed, a horror novella that has already been released. I’m going to try to read this very soon:-)

Do any of these sound good to you too?

  1. This looks like a great haul.
I have What Never Happened on my TBR pile too. I love the sound of The Pale House Devil, and that dark academia anthology sounds perfect for the upcoming spooky season. Hope you enjoy all these ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. “An eco-thriller about a dead scientist whose consciousness is uploaded to the brain of a mammoth in order to help the species”
OK, I knew Tordotcom was wild, but this is next level LOL. Though I read an old book by Peter Dickinson called Eva, about the hybrid that results when the brain-patterns and memory of a dying girl are transferred into the brain of a chimpanzee…

I very much loved Genevieve Gornichec’s A Witch’s Heart, so I am hopeful for her new one. And Robert Jackson Bennett always blows me away, so I’m looking forward to hearing what you think about The Tainted Cup.

  4. I’ve been curious about the Kadrey bookโ€”though lately his stuff has just disappointed me. I did get a copy of the Tainted Cup recently as well! High Five! And the rest… I haven’t heard of. Hope you enjoy them all;)

I don’t think I’ve ever read Kadrey before, so I’m curious. And yes, high five to getting The Tainted Cup!
