Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
So I learned something new about NetGalley this week. Yes, I live under a rock and I didn’t know this, lol. But sometimes publishers can feature your reviews on their front page, and if they do, you get a little orange pencil next to the book on your “Feedback Sent” page, it looks like this:
Of course I went back through all 300+ books I’ve reviewed on NetGalley to see if I had any, and I have six! Ha ha. I’m pretty proud of the Needless Street pencil, lol. Let me know if you have any pencils! And here’s the page on NetGalley that explains it all, just in case you’re curious:-)
Upcoming reads & reviews:
This past week I read two vampire stories, and I’ll be reviewing both of them this week. House of Hunger was a little uneven for me, with a strong start, a shaky middle, but an excellent finish. A Dowry of Blood was lush and atmospheric and definitely the better of the two books. I’m about halfway through Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke, and in typical Eric LaRocca fashion, it’s hard to tear my eyes away from the horror, lol. After that, I may switch gears and read Always the First to Die.
Other posts this week:
It’s a bit lighter on the blog this week, but look for my usual Future Fiction and The Friday Face-Off posts.
In case you missed:
My posts from last week:
Southern Fried & Horrified by Ronald Kelly – Review 4/5 stars
Gallows Hill by Darcy Coates – Review 4.5/5 stars
Not one but TWO vampire stories? Can’t wait to sink my teeth (ah ah!) into your reviews! 😉

It was a rather bloody week…;-)
I had no idea about the Netgalley pencils!! I had more than I expected! Can’t wait to see your reviews for House of Hunger and A Dowry of Blood
I’m glad we all have pencils:-)
I didn’t know about the pencils! I have three.:-)

Yay! I love the pencil thing:-)
Ahoy there! I live under a rock too. I had never noticed the pencils. I have reviewed 342 things and have 9 pencils! It was fun to see what had earned a pencil. Random too. Thanks matey, Arrr!
Oh cool congrats Captain!!
Two vampire stories! You rock! Can’t wait to see your reviews! Also I so didn’t know about the pencil thing on netgalley! That is super cool!
Have a great week and happy reading!

Thanks Stormi, you too!
Congratulations on all those pencils! If I read that page correctly that puts you into the category of Top Reviewer.
That’s right. If you get three pencils you get that distinction:-)
Ooh, that Netgalley thing is cool! I went and checked and I have 3 I guess. But all from a long time ago! I’m still behind on review commenting, but I’ve got several emails with your posts saved for when I have time! Have a great week!

I’m afraid I’m going to become obsessed with the pencils:-)
Oh that’s cool about the pencil! I didn’t know that either (although not surprising since I don’t use NG much). I keep saying I will use it more haha. Anyway Always the First and The Writing Retreat both look fabulous.

I’ve been using NetGalley for years and I didn’t know about the pencil, lol.
I did actually know about the pencil thing, as I’ve been obsessing about getting to 80% lately, but mine is better than I could’ve ever expected. Ten, somehow!! 80% on the other hand is still far away lol
Hey congrats Will! I have something to aim for so I can catch up:-)
That’s cool about the pencil. I’ll have to check. I know my review has been quoted in the beginning of one author’s book once.

Oh that’s very cool!
I will have to look and see if I have any NetGalley pencils when I get a chance. I hope you have a great week and enjoy your reading!
Thanks, you too!
OMG, I didn’t know this about Netgalley either. Actually, I usually don’t go back to my list once I have sent the feedback. So I counted, and I actually have 14 (out of 105 reviews). It looks like some publishers are doing it more than others.
Looking forward to your views on Always the First to Die, and I hope your books this week are enjoyable.
Thanks for joining always stunning bird pictures. Your artist is a keeper 😉

Ooh that’s fantastic!! I never look at that shelf either:-)
Congratulations for NetGalley! It is so good when the editors choose your review to feature in some way!
And it seems like you are having a great time with your books!
It’s been a pretty good month for books so far:-)
I don’t use NetGalley but that cool to have authors feature your review on their blog page.
Have a great week.

Thanks Ann, you too!
Oooh now I will go back to my reviews on Netgalley too 😉
It’s a fun idea, right?
I had no idea about the pencils either! I looked and I have 7 so that’s pretty exciting. 🙂
Yay, congrats!
I didn’t know that about NetGalley! That’s a cool thing to keep an eye out for. Starting House of Hunger myself this week, looking forward to comparing throughts!

I’m so curious to see what you think of House of Hunger!
I never knew that feature about NetGalley! Then again, I haven’t been on the site for a while, but now I’ll have to check!
I never really look at that shelf so I never would have noticed it unless I heard it somewhere else, lol.
I had seen that feature on NG – you receive a badge if a certain number of your reviews appear – a ‘great reviewer’ badge or something like that – or at least you used to, it may have changed by now.
