Buffy’s Corner 7/25/21 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

So my blog stats have been TERRIBLE this month, and I’m wondering why. I’ve noticed a big drop off in views and comments, and I can’t figure it out. Some bloggers that used to leave comments all the time have stopped, although I have a wonderful core of regulars (and you know who you are!) that I’m so thankful for. I don’t really obsess over my stats, but I do notice when they aren’t very good. I mean, what’s the point of blogging if no one is going to read your stuff, right? Anyway, it’s been on my mind lately. Maybe because it’s summer and people are busy? But last July was way better stats-wise, so I don’t think that’s it.

Any other bloggers out there notice a change in your stats? Of course, I’m hoping it isn’t just me, lol.

Moving on, I hope everyone has a good week! I can’t believe July is almost over…

Upcoming Reviews:

I managed to get three reviews up last week, and I’m going to try it again! Monday look for my review of Come With Me by Ronald Malfi. OMG this was so good! If you like eerie serial killer mysteries with a hint of the supernatural, then look no further. I will probably have started either Rovers or Absolute Unit by the time this post goes up, so let’s see how fast I can read this week!

Upcoming reads:

I won’t be able to read all of these for next week, but a girl can dream, right? In any case, here are the three books I’ll probably tackle next. City of Iron and Dust because it’s a July release I really want to get to. And Tidepool and Getaway because I’m still in the mood for horror-centric stories, and I think these will fit the bill.

Other posts:

As usual, look for three new cover reveals on Wednesday in my Future Fiction post; I missed last week’s Friday Face-Off, but I’m back this week with “chaos;” Look for a book haul post on Saturday; and I can’t believe it but next Sunday is August 1st! That’s usually when I do my What’s On My Plate post and share my August reading plans. August is gonna be CRAZY! I may do two posts Sunday because I hate missing Buffy’s Corner:-)

In case you missed…

Here are my posts from last week:

  1. Odd about your blog stats. Hmmm, have you changed the type of books you review? Mostly YA and now adult, or vice versa? Mostly one genre and now another?

There is that weird WordPress thing that’s happened to me a few times now. I think I got caught in an update bug error, and maybe that’s happened to others. Even though I’m following someone, I suddenly stop getting notifications. So every now and then I go through my WP Reader. If I see blogs are active and I’m not getting notifications, I unsubscribe and resubscribe which seems to work.

I enjoyed Absolute Unit. I’m wondering what you thought of it!

No, I haven’t changed anything, except maybe my Horror in July idea put some people off? Hmmm. I just finished Absolute Unit and it was really fun!

  2. I don’t leave comments much, but I always read your posts! My stats have been abismal, but I haven’t been posting, either. Grad school work is no joke.

    • Tammy

Thanks Heather! And wow, I’ve never been to grad school so I can’t relate, but it sounds very busy and stressful…

  3. Laurie Harris

I don’t always comment but I always read your posts and truly look forward to them!

  4. I haven’t been active enough lately to tell with stats for myself, but I do think it’s the summer lull, most likely. Every year that I’ve blogged, my summer stats have been a lot lower than the rest of the year, with last year being an exception – and my guess is it was because so many people were stuck at home and spending a lot more time online! Your content is awesome and I hope your stats pick back up soon. I know how frustrating it can be. 🙁

Aww thanks Destiny! I know I shouldn’t worry about stats so much. And you’re right, last July I had one of my best months ever, probably because everyone was at home.

  5. I have not hardly looked at stats in WordPress. So I’m not sure how to read them but mine are all up. I looked at 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, and 3 years. Which number of users is the one people use for stats? I just look at subscribers and FB followers and Twitter followers which are small but these stats look good.

  6. Not sure any stats comparisons with me would be helpful since our blogs are so different, but looking at them I have noticed a small dip in June/July, though it’s not unusual for mine to have these pops and drops. This past week or so has been hectic for me and I’ve gotten behind with my blog reading/commenting, though now I’m starting to catch up. Good news is yours is almost always at the top of my list. 🙂 As for the books I think I’m most curious at this point about Rovers. I still have the vampires of Fevre Dream on my mind and I’m ready to hear about more. And that Munia, wow! I’ve never heard of or seen that species. I couldn’t even find it in my Peterson field guide, had to look it up online. Another round of kudos to your husband, he caught it in beautiful warm light!

    • Tammy

I really appreciate that, Todd, and you know you’re one of the “regulars” I was referring to:-) I just started Rovers and I think it’s going to be good:-) Interesting about the Munia. I hadn’t ever heard of it either. It sure is pretty!

  7. I haven’t been blogging regularly enough in the last few months to see if my stats are dropping as well (I mean they are but that’s because I’m not posting often lol) but other years I have noticed that I tend to get less views during the summer. Maybe it’s because people are busier or on holidays?

I had a great summer last year, but we were in the middle of Covid lockdown so that might explain it, lol.

  8. Hmm, interesting question about stats, and honestly, I have no idea! If your regulars are still showing up, it may just be a seasonal fluke. I know I’ve gotten a bit worse about commenting on the all the blogs I usually comment on, and maybe others are feeling overwhelmed too. (I know I’ve been posting a bit less as well, but I haven’t noticed any dramatic changes in stats so far, which to be honest, I don’t expect too much from anyway!)

    • Tammy

I suspect it’s that people are out and about more and not sitting around on their phones or computers, lol. Which makes sense.

  9. Well Tammy if I stopped commenting it’s because I was on holiday! Between two floods too. So don’t worry I am back 😉

    • Tammy

I wasn’t worried about you, Sophie! Just in general I’ve noticed a big difference. The floods sounded so scary!

  10. I don’t pay too much attention to stats but it seems like mine have dropped a bit this summer as well. I’ve been attributing it to my own blog hopping, which has been somewhat erratic because my son is having some health issues and I’ve spent a lot of time caring for him, but I guess it could also just be people getting out more, traveling, etc. now that vaccinations are happening.

    • Tammy

You know I loved it! I’m already scoping out his backlist to see what to read next:-)

    • Tammy

I like looking at my numbers too, but I try not to obsess. Unless things start really changing, lol.

  11. Yeah, stats seem to be off for a few different blogs I’ve seen, I’m wondering if it’s not just a summer thing. I know some people over on Booktube on Youtube have been having issues as well. For me, I know I fell off with my usually consistent commenting/responding to comments because things got a bit hectic, but I’m slowly catching up on all of it, thankfully.
Really excited for your reviews this week, especially Come With Me! All of your upcoming reads sound great, and that reminds me I have a copy of Getaway I need to get to as well. Looking forward to all the posts in August!

I’m hoping it’s just people getting out more with restrictions lifted. I hope we both love Getaway!

  12. As always the pic is wonderful!! And for my blog Summer is always a more quiet time, engagement wise, so maybe it is just that? Even if last year the stats weren’t the same it may just be that is Summer time (and it seems like an atypical summer because it is all more stressful: traveling is stressful due to all the restrictions, and in Europe it is not that we have restrictions that is stressful per se, it is that everyone has different restrictions so it is stressful! And then there is the weather that is not the same as always, heatweaves and or storms everywhere, etc…). Anyway, I just wanted to say that maybe it was because it Summer time and it ended with me duing the news channel. Sorry about that!!

    • Tammy

LOL I totally get it. I forget it’s summer because I have to work, it feels like just another month to me.

  13. Well my stats have been absolutely horrible over the last couple of months – but then, my own posting schedule is all over the place! But I do think that last year was so unusual, it isn’t a good year for comparisons. Generally, I’m aware that summer numbers do tend to be patchy because of holidays, children being home, etc…

I love that dear little bird – what beautiful markings – and what a fantastic photo:)). I hope the coming week is a good one, Tammy – and that you continue to enjoy your horror reads.

    • Tammy

I think you’re right. Last year people were stuck inside and had nothing else to do. Yes, isn’t he the cutest bird?? Thanks for stopping by, Sarah:-)

  14. I will admit it, my blog hopping has been TERRIBLE lately. I’ve barely hit any of my usual blogs (including yours). I need to get to my dedicated weekend reading…I kind of miss the days when my day job was quiet enough in the mornings that I could blog hop while waiting for the day to “start.” For what it’s worth, my own traffic is about half of what it was in June.

  15. Mine have been down for a few months, but I’ve mostly attributed it to my lack of consistency! I’ve slacked on reviews in favor of my summertime hobbies (gardening and bike rides ). It is a little discouraging when viewership drops off!

  16. Sorry your stats are down, I know sometimes I view but don’t comment if I don’t have anything to say…lol. I use to pay attention to my stats but I got to where it was stressing me so now I don’t pay attention. I have my blog for me, so I can talk about books, getting people to comment is just a bonus…lol.

  17. I thought my stats being dodgy was because I wasn’t posting much due to lack of wifi. I’m back on now and trying to catch up (aka making sure I’ve not missed anything).
I think August is also a busy vacation month so that also has an impact.
    Lynn 😀
