Buffy’s Corner 2/7/21 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

I hope everyone had a good week! I had a three day weekend so I ended up getting lots of reading in, which is nice because I have so many review books this month. Not much news to report, other than California is having awesome weather right now! Meanwhile, my daughter is in Boston where they have bad snow storms and very low temps. I’m hoping she’s wishing right now that she’d never left California, lol.

Friday was frustrating because the Goodreads search engine seemed to be completely broken, and I took to Twitter to see if anyone else was having issues. It appears I wasn’t alone and it was causing all sorts of frustrations. But things seem to be working today so it looks like Goodreads has fixed it, at least for now.

Anyway, reading wise I seem to be on a science fiction/time travel/clone binge, which wasn’t planned but it’s just the way my February TBR worked out. Here’s what I’ve been reading and what’s coming up:

Upcoming reviews:

The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey was a lot of fun, and also surprised me. I was expecting something a bit different, but I ended up loving Gailey’s psychological character study about a brilliant scientist caught up in an clone experiment gone wrong. Look for my review tomorrow!

I blew through The Future is Yours by Dan Frey in just over a day (something I never do, but I took Friday off work and literally read all day). It was a twisty, mind-bending story about a computer that can see one year ahead into the future and the controversy surrounding it. I enjoyed it! It wasn’t perfect but it certainly kept me turning pages. And I’ve just started A History of What Comes Next, which seems to be a complex historical tale about aliens and their involvement in shaping our history. It’s more on the cerebral side and is a slower read than the last few books, but I’m intrigued so far. I may or may not get my review up this week, but if not, next week for sure.

Upcoming reads:

My next three reads will probably be The Minders, Dragonfly Girl and The Package, all coming out this month. After these I will most likely try to start slotting in March reads so I can get a head a little (hard to believe I’m already looking ahead to March!)

The usual memes…

Sort of a slow week on the blog, which is OK with me. Look for some new cover reveals on Future Fiction on Wednesday, and The Friday Face-Off is “furry.” Other than that, I don’t expect to be posting anything except a couple of reviews.

In case you missed…

Here are my posts from last week:

  1. Long weekends are a bliss!! And I am glad you are enjoying the weather, here in my corner of Italy, it is quite a depressive weather, not too cold, but the sky is gray all day long, sometimes it is rainy or foggy. I usually enjoy a couple days of this weather, but it is more than a week now and it is becoming a bit too much!!

  2. Glad you’re having such wonderful weather– here on the east coast I’m a bit jealous. It’s snowing again today haha. I’ll be glad when spring arrives. Have a wonderful week, Tammy!

For some reason February is pretty nice here, but March is often colder, so we’ll see what happens:-)

  3. Well those are some interesting geese, don’t think I’ve seen ones like that before. I like the title, “A History of What Comes Next.” For whatever reason it reminds me of an Austrian movie called “Tomorrow, When the War Began.” Sometimes great titles, just like great covers, are enough to get me to try a book (or movie).

  4. I am glad you seem to have had a great week! They are announcing polar weather for next week here so California is really appealing right now!

  5. Those are some lovely geese
I’ve ended up with a sci/fi/time travel theme in February, I don’t usually like reading too much sci-fi in a row, so I hope it doesn’t backfire on me

Good luck with all your sci fi! I think I’m going to need some fantasy after my next couple of reads, lol.

  6. NetGalley UK had a teaser arc of the Sylvain Neuvel book, I’m curious to see how it pans on when I eventually get my mits on the full book.

Boston sounds like it’s a world away weather wise! I think if I moved to a warmer climate I’d miss the snow despite my moaning about it!

    Have a good week.

  7. I’m glad you have had a 3-day weekend and have been able to put your feet up and spend a day reading – I hope that you were able to thoroughly relax!

  8. I am loving the California weather right now. We spent some time outside today, which was nice. Since I have tomorrow off from work, maybe I’ll get in some outside reading time in. My poor daughter and husband and school and work. I had heard the East Coast has been getting a lot of snow. I don’t envy them in the least.

I suspected something was wrong with the Goodreads search engine the other day and then saw on Twitter I wasn’t alone. I am glad they seem to have gotten it fixed.

It sounds like your reading is going well and you’ve read some great books. I hope you enjoy your current reads and upcoming ones as well!

I hope you have a great week, Tammy!
