What’s On My Plate – February 2021

Happy February, everyone! January flew by, at least for me. And here we are already in February! Yes, I have a LOT of books on my plate this month, and no, I probably won’t get to all of them. But I always try, and there are so many books I’m looking forward to, I’m going to try extra hard.

February Review Books:

The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey is probably my #1 anticipated February release, and I’ll be starting this very soon.

The Future is Yours by Dan Frey is another highly anticipated book. I’ve heard this is an epistolary novel, a format I really enjoy.

I’ve already read Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell, and wow I loved it! Look for my review tomorrow.

Dragonfly Girl by Marti Leimbach is one of two YA books I’m tackling this month. I’ve been seeing great reviews for this already.

The Minders by John Marrs. I’m hoping this is as entertaining as the last Marrs book I read!

The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec. I’ve seen this book compared to Circe (which I haven’t read), so I’m really looking forward to it.

A History of What Comes Next by Sylvain Neuvel. I may have started this already by the time you read this post.

Sun-Daughters, Sea-Daughters by Aimee Ogden. This is my only novella this month, and I’m very curious about this Little Mermaid retelling.

The Moonsteel Crown by Stephen Deas. There is a crime/gang element to this fantasy which really appeals to me.

The Best of R.A. Lafferty edited by Jonathan Strahan. You guys, Lafferty is such a strange writer. I’ve started these stories, trying to read maybe one a day or so, and they are very odd. Anyone out there read him before?

The Russian Cage by Charlaine Harris. This is the third book in Harris’s Gunnie Rose series, and I am looking forward to revisiting these characters:-)

The Project by Courtney Alameda. I missed out of Sadie a couple of years ago, so I’m very curious to check this out.

Only the Broken Remain by Dan Coxon. This is a small press horror collection that I accepted for review, and I’ll try to get to it this month, especially since it’s fairly short.

Amid the Crowd of Stars by Stephen Leigh. There are only a handful of ratings on Goodreads as we speak, so it’s hard to gauge whether I’m going to like this or not. But the story sounds good so I hope I have time to read it.

Here are the books I read and reviewed in January! Click on the titles to read my reviews if you missed any:

In the Garden of Spite by Camilla Bruce

Doors of Sleep by Tim Pratt

The Gulp by Alan Baxter

Hall of Smoke by H.M. Long

The Effort by Claire Holroyde

Remote Control by Nnedi Okorafor

Threader Origins by Gerald Brandt

Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire

Let me know if we have any February books in common!

  1. Mike Carey

I read and loved the early Lafferty stories – the ones in Nine Hundred Grandmothers – about forty years ago. I also really enjoyed the novel Fourth Mansions, insane and baffling though it was. I kind of lost touch with him after that, partly because he went through a spell in which all his short fiction featured groups of men (and other entities) hanging out and talking in bars. I got bored with the formula. It’s way past time I dived back in, though. There are literally hundreds of stories of his that I haven’t ever read.

His style is so different from anything I’ve read, I’m curious to see how I feel about him after I finish this collection:-)

  2. Most of these seem fairly new to me and by authors I’ve not read. But I have read Circe so I’m curious about The Witch’s Heart. Funny how the cover keeps reminding me of Circe, too.

The cover reminds me of Circe too, even though the covers are pretty different. I’m so curious to start it:-)

  3. I love your February book haul, Tammy. As you know, I’ve also got the arc of Winter’s Orbit and I shall also be posting my review tomorrow:)). I also loved it! I’m very jealous that you have a copy of The Russian Cage, which I really want! And The Minders by John Marr… Happy reading!

  4. What a great selection of books! It seems like it’d be hard to go wrong with these ones. I recently finished The Echo Wife and thought it was really interesting. The Witch’s Heart was so good! I’m excited for pretty much all the rest of these, haha. I hope you have a great month!

  5. Oh wow, this IS quite the TBR! I’m excited for The Witch’s Heart. Also, I keep forgetting that I still have to read book 2 of that Charlaine Harris series. I better get on that! Have an amazing February, Tammy!

  6. Some great books here. I’m excited to see what you think of Witch’s Heart. I’m Loki obsessed so I’ll be picking it up. I have also not seen Only the Broken Remain and now I’m really curious about it.

  7. Looking at your February review books stresses me out. Here I am worried about my 2 (two!) ARCs and you’ve got .. well I didn’t actually count them, but lots!
