Buffy’s Corner 11/15/20 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

Hey guys, hope everyone had a good week! Not much happened here, although I’m sad because neither one of my kids is coming home for Thanksgiving this year. With Covid cases out of control, it just isn’t going to work out. I’m pretty sad, but I’m going to focus my energy on the Christmas holidays instead.

I mentioned that hubby is putting together a book of his recent wildlife photos, and he’s in the stage where he’s ordered a sample to proofread before he actually posts it for sale. I can’t wait to see the finished product! And here’s my favorite photo of his from the past week:

Starlings in flight. They don’t even look real, do they?

Upcoming reviews:

Tomorrow I’ll have my review up for The Children of Red Peak by Craig DiLouie. This is another powerful book from one of my favorite authors, and this time he tackles cults. Probably not my favorite book of his, but I really enjoyed it. And I just started reading The Rush’s Edge by Ginger Smith, and I hope to get a review up later this week.

Upcoming reads:

My next book will most likely be Call of the Bone Ships by R.J. Barker, I’m SO damn excited for this! And I’m going to try again to fit in Eight Cylinders by Jason Parent, and probably after that, I’m going to pick up Nophek Gloss by Essa Hansen. I’ve been hearing good things about it!

The usual memes…

Tuesday I have a “cover love” list. I’ve gathered together science fiction books with the word “star” in the title. It was fun to find all those books, check it out! Wednesday I have four more excellent sci-fi books to share for Future Fiction, the Friday Face-Off is covers with “words only,” and I’ll try to do a sci-fi spin on that. Finally, stop by on Saturday to check out five new self-published authors in my Self Published Sci-Fi Saturday!

In case you missed…

Here are my posts from last week:

How the Multiverse Got Its Revenge by K. Eason – Review 4/5 stars

I love Mr. Sparks’ photos and really appreciate you sharing them. I hope he’s happy with the book. You are going to provide ordering info, yes?

Bummer about your children not getting to be with you this month. Here’s hoping next month will work out. Here, it’s looking like Thanksgiving will just be me and the Resident Offspring and its entirely possible we’re having pizza. I’m hoping to start reading things other than comfort books, now that I’m not obsessively doomscrolling quite so much.

I hope your holiday is enjoyable, if low key.

  2. I totally LOVED the second volume in the Tide Child saga, and I am certain you will find it an even better book than its predecessor. On the other hand, I look forward to some reviews on Nophek Gloss: it started as very promising for me, but along the way it lost me, and I would welcome another point of view from a trusted fellow reader…

I can’t wait to start Call of the Bone Ships! I’ve heard it’s better than the first book, which frankly is hard to believe:-)

  3. Laurie Harris

Congratulations to your husband on his upcoming book! My daughter and son in law are not coming for Thanksgiving this year either. I’m so bummed. I’m hoping to console myself with books but tbh I’m struggling. This year just needs to end already!

  4. This is going to be a tough holiday season. I’m debating how to deal with it to keep my folks safe but still see them. They are fairly local, though, which helps, no travel needed. I love that your husband is continuing to work on the book, that’s fantastic. And I’m looking forward to this weeks reviews and posts!

    • Tammy

I wish my parents were local too. We are not going to see them either, unfortunately, but I will figure something out for Christmas.

  5. Oh No. I’m so sorry that your children won’t make it home for Thanksgiving. But, gives you time to plan for a lovely Christmas. Hope you have a great week Tammy

  6. I hope you’ll provide ordering info for the book, Tammy. I’m interested. ❤️ These starlings- wow. I am so sorry about your Thanksgiving. I hope you are able to see your family for Christmas. I recently finished The Children of Red Peak and definitely need to read more from this author. I’m looking forward to your review!

  7. Those photos are really awesome. I am lucky my daughter lives with me so we will be together for the holidays. I am seriously worried about the rise in cases so we continue to stay home as much as possible. Happy reading, stay well!

Me too Anne! I try not to do anything I don’t have to do. You are lucky your daughter is already home:-)

  8. Beautiful photo! Unreal! I can’t wait to read your review of The Children of Red Peak. Also looking forward to your thoughts on Nophek Gloss — I have a review copy too, but haven’t felt motivated to pick it up just yet. Have a great week!

  9. I am sorry the kids won’t be home with you Tammy! We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here but I think Christmas will also be a small gathering. Now your husband’s book is something to get excited about!

    • Tammy

It’s going to be a strange Thanksgiving for sure, but I am sort of relieved I don’t have to cook a turkey, lol.

  10. The Starlings in Flight photo is gorgeous. I imagine the book will be amazing.

I am sorry your kids won’t be able to come home for Thanksgiving. We don’t usually make a big deal of Thanksgiving, and so it won’t be too different for us. I have been looking ahead to Christmas though, wondering how that will turn out. I am really hoping my mom can come, but we’ll see.

I hope you enjoy your reading this week as well as have a great week!

I’m trying to figure out how to see my parents at Christmas too. They were so disappointed when I said we shouldn’t get together for TG, I felt awful. Here’s hoping things are better in December!

  11. I hope that Christmas would make up for Thanksgiving!!
And your husband’s pictures are so awesome!! And I am curious to know what you would think about Nophek Gloss because I am reading so many interesting things about it!
