Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
Two things happened on Friday: Ruth Bader Ginsburg died (as I’m sure you know) and there was an earthquake in Los Angeles. I like to think the two events were related in some way. Maybe it was Ruth’s way of warning us to stay vigilant. Instead of hubby photos today, I just wanted to honor this amazing woman:
Upcoming reviews:
Well, my plans went off the rails this week. I didn’t read much of what I was planning, but I did read two AMAZING books, so there’s that! I loved The Phlebotomist by Chris Panatier, which was a complete surprise. My review goes up tomorrow, so do stop by and check it out. And on a whim, because I needed a Kindle ARC to read, I started The Residence by Andrew Pyper and OMG I blew through it in a couple of days. You would never know from the cover, but this is a super creepy Gothic horror/ghost story, and it surprised me as well! My review will probably be up on Thursday.
Upcoming reads:
By the time this post goes up, I’ll have started The Hive Queen by Robin Kirk. This is the follow-up to Robin’s The Bond which I loved. I also have an interview with Robin, and I’ll probably schedule both the review of The Hive Queen and the interview next week. Stay tuned! (And I may do a giveaway, since it’s been ages:-D) After that, I have two fairly short September review books I’d like to get to by the end of the month: The Occultists by Polly Schattel and Midnight Horror Show by Ben Lathrop. Hey, it’s almost October and what better way to celebrate than with some spooky reads?
The usual memes…
Look for Future Fiction on Wednesday, The Friday Face-Off on Friday (Busy/detailed covers) and I’ll be doing an Over-Booked on Saturday, since I have some new review copies from publishers to share.
Heads up Sci-Fi Fans!
It may seem early, but November is right around the corner. And you know what that means: Sci Fi Month! The best blogging month of the year! Check out imyril’s post here if you’re interested in joining us. I’ll be launching my own Sci Fi Month plans at the end of October, which is good because I still have lots of planning to do. Everyone can join in, don’t miss it!
In case you missed…
Here are my posts from last week:
The Friday Face-Off: Minimalist
They Threw Us Away by Daniel Kraus – Review
Top Ten Tuesday: SFF Books with Creatures on the Cover
The Trials of Koli by M.R. Carey – Review
The Occultists looks very atmospheric. Sci-Fi Month is going to be so much fun!
I know, I can hardly wait!
The Phlebotomist has a fabulous cover and I’m glad the book matched the awesomeness of the cover!
I didn’t know who Ruth Bader Ginsburg was since I am not American but after hearing the sad news and I looked her up. She sounded like a brilliant and I’m sure her loss is a huge one, especially in this difficult period.

I just realized I should have added a link to her Wikipedia page (which I just did). RGB did so many important things!
It’s been a hard old week, what with one thing and another – and here in the UK, RBG was regarded with huge respect by feminists and the world seems a colder, harder place without her…
I’ve just been checking out The Phlebotomist – sci fi featuring an awesome grandmother??? How come I missed THAT one on my radar? It sounds fabulous:). I might well treat myself to the audio version… In time for Sci Fi Month!
I didn’t realize there were “older” women in The Phlebotomist, but I gave a little cheer when I found out!
Interesting suggestions for some Halloween reading! The Residence looks particularly intriguing… 🙂

Oooh it was so much better than I expected!
I’m crushed about RGB. I initially read the Residence as the Resistance. I’m worried about the world. I hope you are getting a bit cooler weather as we are. Have a lovely week!
Me too Anne, it’s hard to stay positive these days for sure.
I’m very sad about RGB’s passing. So much….depression about the possible future if things shake out certain ways, this election has suddenly become even more important.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to Sci-Fi month! I don’t think I will be a full on participant but I do have a few reviews planned for it. 🙂 Have a great week, Tammy!
Exactly, Lisa. All of my friends reactions were along the lines of “oh fuck, we’re screwed.”
Both your reads look pretty cool even if I am not big on bright pink covers…lol. Hope you have a great week.
Ha ha, well you have to admit it’s eye catching:-)
I’m hoping to participate in Sci-Fi Month this year, but my ARC pile is SO out of control…..

At least some of my ARCs are sci fi so I may just save a few for November.
I’m so excited about The Phlebotomist – it sounds like exactly my kind of thing. I’m hoping to get a copy some time soon!
I hope you can read it, Hanna, it was so good!
You’re right, I wouldn’t have know from the cover what The Residence is about, but I do like the sound of it. Can’t wait to read your review.
It was so good, and it’s actually a perfect Halloween story.
I am sooo looking forward to November! And The Occultist has an amazing cover!
Yes, November is definitely a highlight of the year in blogging:-)
I saw your tweet about The Phlebotomist! Maybe I do need to check it out 😀 And I enjoyed The Residence too, very creepy atmosphere.
I’m glad I read both these books in one week, it was definitely a great reading week:-)
The Occultists seems to be really good! I saw it on Netgalley, but as usual, it was “Wish for It” for international bloggers. Nevertheless, looking forward to your review, Tammy.

I hope to read it very soon:-)
The cover for the Phlebotomist is certainly striking – and also, I totally had to look up what that meant !
Ha ha! It is a striking cover, that pink!
I was so heartbroken to hear of RBG’s passing. She was definitely one of my heroes. I thought the same thing about the earthquake coming so soon after we heard the news.
The timing was awful, but unfortunately her passing right now doesn’t surprise me:-(
Ugh, such a shame about RBG. I hadn’t heard of the earthquake, but that sounds appropriate. Oooh, I didn’t know there was a sci-fi month to go with fantasy month! I always have a hard time separating the two. xD I’m bad with genres.
Ha ha, you know it’s hard these days because there are so many hybrid genres that mix it up:-)
Her passing was so sad and yes, maybe the earthquake was a sign. The world sure is a sh*tshow right now that’s for sure. I am glad to see you liked the Pyper book because that’s one I’m really interested in. I’ve seen a few mixed reviews though so I was a tad hesitant. Hope you are having a great week and hope to be around more (except that Apollo scared the crap out of me again this morning). He’s determined to kill me!
I’m not sure I know the whole story of what happened to Apollo, I hope he’s OK!
The Phlebotomist and The Residence both have me super interested! I hope you enjoy your reading this week! 🙂

Thanks Jordan!
Her passing was very sad, yes I’d agree the earthquake was a sign!
I tentatively signed up for sci-fi month, I’ve not done it for years but hoping to give it a try.
Have a good week.

Sci Fi Month is a lot of fun, I’ll hopefully see you there!
You’ve been doing great with your reading. I would love to read the Residence too.
Lynn 😀
I think you’d love The Residence, in some ways it reminded me of The Silent Companions.
