The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: A cover with a pattern.
I had a hard time finding a book from my “read” pile, so I decided to feature a bunch of pretty patterned covers, specifically the Penguin Classics editions, which I love! I see these all the time on Instagram and drool every time. Take a look at these beauties:
These are just a few of the many classic editions they’ve published. As far as favorites, I love Great Expectations (I have a thing for chandeliers), Sense and Sensibility and The Odyssey the best.
What a fantastic way to go with this week’ s theme. I very nearly went for a classic myself as I felt sure I’d find one, particularly Austen, with a pretty cover.
These are amazing. I love quite a few of them for different reasons.
Dante’s Inferno with the little fiery red creatures. The peacock feathers for Dorian Gray. I love the Sense and Sensibility cover and you’re spot on with Great Expectations, the chandeliers are brilliant and it’s one of my favourite classics.
Lynn 😀
What a delightful choice for this week’s theme! I love patterned covers myself, because often they enhance the “mystery” of the contents by not offering any clue about them. The Dorian Gray cover is the one that calls to me with the loudest voice… 😉

I like The Picture of Dorian Gray. The color and the peacock feathers are cool . . . mysterious and maybe death or corruption and wealth. I do own several of these books. It’s hard to get rid of wonderful classics.

I have two favorites out of the ones you chose: Great Expectations with the chandeliers on the cover, and The Picture of Dorian Gray with the peacock feathers on the cover.

I don’t think I’ve seen these before. My favorites are The Odyssey and The Woman in White (not familiar with this book).
I desperately need those editions of The Odyssey and The Picture of Dorian Gray

All of those are so pretty!
Ooooooooooooh, I love all of these covers so much! There’s something to be said for simplicity. But I really think it’s the monochromatic themes that do me in every time (this is also why I love those hardcover Discworld covers so much).
These are so cool. I love the Woman in White and the Dracula ones. Go figure,
I don’t own any of them but I do love both the Austen covers! They are all such stunning look books.
I don’t own any of these yet but I have giant heart eyes for them all, especially the one for Sense and Sensibility. So pretty!
oh yeah, I remember the publisher doing these! I don’t know if I can pick a favorite, they look good as a whole set, imo.
I love these, too, Tammy, and I have a few. I love my copy of Alice in Wonderland that has pink flamingos and I have an Austen novel I’m blanking on with red shoes, and it even has the title spelled incorrectly! Wait, now I remember, it’s Love and Friendship (and Friendship is spelled Freindship) which bugs me but then makes me love it too. I also love Hard Times above with the green and the horses. So much to love about these and apparently I can talk all day!
I love the Penguin classic covers! They are awesome! Great picks!

I kept scrolling up and down trying to choose and my eyes started crossing. LOL I think Great Expectations and Dracula stand out the most for me.
