The Friday Face-Off: Pattern

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: A cover with a pattern.

I had a hard time finding a book from my “read” pile, so I decided to feature a bunch of pretty patterned covers, specifically the Penguin Classics editions, which I love! I see these all the time on Instagram and drool every time. Take a look at these beauties:

These are just a few of the many classic editions they’ve published. As far as favorites, I love Great Expectations (I have a thing for chandeliers), Sense and Sensibility and The Odyssey the best.

Which Penguin Classic is your favorite? Do you own any of these?

  1. What a fantastic way to go with this week’ s theme. I very nearly went for a classic myself as I felt sure I’d find one, particularly Austen, with a pretty cover.
These are amazing. I love quite a few of them for different reasons.
Dante’s Inferno with the little fiery red creatures. The peacock feathers for Dorian Gray. I love the Sense and Sensibility cover and you’re spot on with Great Expectations, the chandeliers are brilliant and it’s one of my favourite classics.

  2. Ooooooooooooh, I love all of these covers so much! There’s something to be said for simplicity. But I really think it’s the monochromatic themes that do me in every time (this is also why I love those hardcover Discworld covers so much).

  3. I love these, too, Tammy, and I have a few. I love my copy of Alice in Wonderland that has pink flamingos and I have an Austen novel I’m blanking on with red shoes, and it even has the title spelled incorrectly! Wait, now I remember, it’s Love and Friendship (and Friendship is spelled Freindship) which bugs me but then makes me love it too. I also love Hard Times above with the green and the horses. So much to love about these and apparently I can talk all day!
