Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
It’s been a fairly uneventful week here, although I’m horrified with the way COVID cases are continuing to climb here in the U.S. Did someone say there was a house in Canada they could rent me for a while? 😉 Because I feel in my soul I might be Canadian. Hope everyone had a safe 4th of July weekend if you’re here in the U.S., and speaking of Canada, I believe July 1st was Canada Day, so cheers to my Canadian friends!
It wouldn’t be Sunday without a couple of animal photos, so here are my favorite Hubby photos from the past week (click on photos for a bigger image). This yellow tail hawk has just caught lunch (there’s a mouse in the middle of all that grass!) And this is a bird I rarely see, a California Quail. Isn’t he cute? I love this moon photo, which was taken just two nights ago. Can you see all the stars in the background?
Upcoming reviews:
I hope to finish Stormblood by Jeremy Szal by the end of the day and have a review up later in the week. I’m loving it so far! And I should be able to get my review of short story horror collection Dark Celebrations by Calvin Demmer up as well.
Upcoming reads:
I wasn’t able to start Opium and Absinthe by Lydia Kang last week, so it’s on the list again. After that my next read will probably be Random Sh*t Flying Through the Air by Jackson Ford. Really excited about both of these:-D
The usual memes…
On Tuesday I’m thrilled to finally share the Mid Year Freak Out Book Tag! It’s become one of my favorite posts of the year. On Wednesday, I’ve found three cool new books/covers to share on Future Fiction, and on Friday, the Friday Face-Off theme is “tunnel.”
In case you missed…
Here are my posts from last week:
We Ride the Storm by Devin Madson – Review
Most Anticipated Books of 2020 – Third Quarter
What’s On My Plate – July 2020
The Friday Face-Off: Tentacles
The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water by Zen Cho – Review
I’m looking forward to your review of Stormblood. And your post on Tuesday! Partly because I can’t remember which tag that is. But also, some bad news. Alas, the border between us and Canada is closed
Maybe try hunkering down in the closet like I’m going to?
Oh no!!! But really, I’m glad the Canadians are smart enough to keep us out;-)
That picture of the Moon is mesmerizing! But I’ve always been fascinated by it, so no surprise there 😉
And I can’t wait to hear what you think of Stormblood – looking forward to your review!

I didn’t even know he owned a lens that could get a close up like that, lol.
The pics are amazing!!! And I am glad you are enjoying Stormblood, it seems good!! And, obviously, I am curious to read your review!
It’s really good, and I’ll definitely get it posted this week, but I’m not sure what day yet.
Oh that moon photograph!!! Stunning! And sounds like a fantastic week ahead
Thank you!
Thank you for posting the photos, and thanks to Mr. Sparks for shooting them. He does good work.
Thanks so much, Marian:-)
At first I’d thought the hawk was gathering nesting material. That’s amazing your husband caught it with prey! And I love the quail shot, not a species we see out this way, especially that partiular species of quail. I also love the moon shot, really well done, and great job with the exposure capturing the moon and stars. Any chance it was multiple exposures combined into one? I’m looking forward to hearing about Stormblood. I really like that cover and always want books with great covers to have equally great stories inside! 🙂
I’ll have to ask about the multiple exposures, but my gut reaction is probably not. And I agree, Stormblood’s cover is really good, and it fits the story perfectly:-)
Our new cases are rising dramatically and we are now a red zone. Since they did the reopening here people are coming out in record numbers and I don’t see the businesses taking many precautions. Very scary times. Thanks for sharing the awesome photos!

Thanks Laura, stay safe!
I love your husband’s photos! Very talented. I’m with you on the Canada thing. My husband and I have been saying the same thing lately
Yeah, the U.S. is a scary place right now, in more ways than one:-/
Great photos! I’ve seen quite a few red tailed hawks recently. There’s a nest pretty close to my house. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a quail in the wild before though. I have seen some pheasant and wild turkeys lately. There seems to be a turkey crossing on the road just down from me now. 🙂
Oh wow, I love turkeys! That’s one thing we don’t see here.
I still think it’s bad out there and we just stay home for the most part. I have done some drive-thru and curbside pickup but I don’t go inside if I can help it. Mostly we have deliveries. I’m glad you’re enjoying your reads. I enjoy them once I get reading but I’m still moody and have trouble starting new books which is unusual. Enjoy your week!
Anne – Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
It’s been taking me longer to get into books, I’ve found, so it sounds like we have similar issues:-)
Wow, those photos are amazing! Hope you have a fabulous week. 🙂
Thanks Bonnie, I hope you have a good week as well:-)
Your husband is a talented photographer! Thank you for sharing the pics. Yes, we are continuing to take things steady – and I’m still not going out and about much, other than the occasional family visit or walk. I am looking forward to reading your Mid Year Freak Out Tag, too! Have a great week, Tammy.
Thanks Sarah, you too:-)
Seriously, if only we could move to Canada for a while. Or maybe forever lol. Wow, those photos are awesome! I don’t think I realized your husband did photography!
I just recently started sharing his photos, since quarantine. He’s usually shooting big events and head shots, and all that has gone away for now. So he decided to walk around the city and see what he could find to photograph. I think he really enjoys it!
Did you know I was Canadian (still am, duo citizenship) before I immigrated? 😀 Truthfully, I love Canada, I still miss it sometimes, but I’m so happy and definitely not regretful at all to be in the US, lol. I still have a lot of family there, including my brother’s who I talk to a lot…believe me, they have their own problems, we just don’t hear as much about them 😛
Yes, I knew that! Yeah, from here Canada seems about perfect, but I guess it’s that “the grass is always greener” situation;-)
Your Husband took that moon picture?!?! Thats amazing!! We could see Jupiter and Saturn super clear while camping this weekend, but the best camera we had was a smart phone So we tried but got a lot of not great pictures
I was surprised at the moon photo too! He usually takes people photos so all of these are out of his comfort zone.
that is such a perfect picture of the moon! And I am so curious about “Random Sh*t” with that title!
Thanks Verushka:-)
I agree about the climbing COVID situation and just can’t get over the states that are just letting it happen. Did they learn nothing from the crisis in New York back at the beginning of the pandemic? Thanks for sharing more pics from your hubby. He’s a very talented photographer and I love how unique the shots always are.
I’m in one of the “hot” states and it’s so annoying! Just stay home/wear a mask/wash your hands/don’t go inside anywhere unless you have to!
Your husband is really talented Tammy!!! And I am afraid for you all in the US. Stay safe.
Thank you Sophie! And yes, the U.S. is pretty bad, mostly because we’re so divided. About half of us understand what needs to be done, and the rest don’t care:-(
We are sticking close to home given the continuing rise in COVID cases. It’s all very concerning. I love the detail your husband is able to capture in his photos. That’s a beautiful shot of the moon. I have my eye on Opium and Absinthe and hope you enjoy it. I hope you have a great week! Stay safe and well.
Glad you’re staying safe, it’s very worrisome!
I’m seeing lots of people do that tag. I may try to work it in Friday but right now I still need to do my June wrap up and I have several reviews to get up.
Your husband is getting great at those photos and I really look forward to seeing them!
I figure any time in July is good for that tag:-) Thanks Barb!
Oh, Tammy, I am with you. And these pictures are amazing. I never see quail either and I hope it’s not because they have been hunted away.
Oh me too, I love quail, I think they are just scared and keep to themselves.
Your husband is amazing at finding all kinds of wildlife! I wish I saw more around here–we have some hawks but I think they’re Cooper’s Hawks and pretty boring looking ;). I get excited when I see a cardinal LOL.
Thanks Lisa! I’m always surprised when he shows me his photos. I’m like “You saw a WHAT??” lol.
Those are great photos!
I don’t know how your husband takes such great pics – but thanks so much for sharing them.
I seem to have found myself with lots of projects this week so come evening I’m shattered. Consequently all notions of reading and blogging have gone a little haywire and now it’s catch up time.
