Future Fiction #79: Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Today I’m looking at some Spring 2021 releases, take a look:

One day in 1959, an entire village of people disappeared – leaving behind only the broken body of a woman in the town square, and an abandoned newborn in a schoolroom.

No one knows why they vanished. No one’s been there since.

Until now.

Documentary filmmaker Alice Lindstedt has been obsessed with the vanishing residents of the old mining town, dubbed “The Lost Village,” since she was a little girl. Her grandmother’s entire family disappeared in this mysterious tragedy, and ever since, the unanswered questions surrounding the dead woman and abandoned baby have plagued her. She’s gathered a small crew of filmmaking friends to spend a few days in the quiet village and make a film about what really happened.

There will be no turning back for them.

Not long after they’ve set up camp, mysterious things begin to happen. Equipment is destroyed. People begin to go missing. As doubt breeds fear and their very minds begin to crack, one thing becomes startlingly clear to Alice: they are not alone.

Addictively gripping and brilliantly chilling, The Lost Village by Camilla Sten is a pulse-pounding, riveting thriller from beginning to end.

The Lost Village by Camilla Sten. Releases in April 2021 from Minotaur Books. This is a publisher I don’t usually follow, but I was glancing through a Macmillan catalog on Edelweiss and this cover caught my eye. Sten is a Swedish author, I believe, and this book was originally published last year. It sounds like a fantastic mystery with supernatural elements.

When children go missing, people want answers. When children go missing in the small coastal town of Astoria, people look to Wendy for answers.

It’s been five years since Wendy and her two brothers went missing in the woods, but when the town’s children start to disappear, the questions surrounding her brothers’ mysterious circumstances are brought back into light. Attempting to flee her past, Wendy almost runs over an unconscious boy lying in the middle of the road, and gets pulled into the mystery haunting the town.

Peter, a boy she thought lived only in her stories, claims that if they don’t do something, the missing children will meet the same fate as her brothers. In order to find them and rescue the missing kids, Wendy must confront what’s waiting for her in the woods.

Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas. Releases in March 2021 from Swoon Reads. I love a good Peter Pan retelling, and I’ve been waiting a while for this cover to finally pop up on Goodreads, isn’t it pretty??

A gorgeously gothic, deeply romantic YA debut fantasy about two enemies trapped inside a crumbling mansion, with no escape from the monsters within.

Honor your oath, destroy your country.

Wren Southerland is the most talented healer in the Queen’s Guard, but her reckless actions have repeatedly put her on thin ice with her superiors. So when a letter arrives from a reclusive lord, asking Wren to come to his estate to cure his servant from a mysterious disease, she seizes the chance to prove herself.

When she arrives at Colwick Hall, Wren realizes that nothing is what it seems. Particularly when she discovers her patient is actually Hal Cavendish, the sworn enemy of her kingdom.

As the snowy mountains make it impossible to leave the estate, Wren and Hal grow closer as they uncover a sinister plot that could destroy everything they hold dear. But choosing love could doom both their kingdoms.

Allison Saft’s Down Comes the Night is a snow-drenched, gothic, romantic fantasy that keeps you racing through the pages long into the night.

Down Comes the Night by Allison Saft. Releases in March 2021 from Wednesday Books. “YA Gothic fantasy” is all I need to know, lol. This sounds amazing! Give me all the spooky, crumbling mansion stories:-D

  1. You win this week. These all sounds perfect to me. The Lost Village in particular is a great concept that sounds really creepy.

  2. Will

Where do you find these? As usual I haven’t heard of a single one! The first two look pretty good, though. I hope you get to both!

  3. They are all amazing, Tammy! But being the shallow sort – that fabulous cover for Down Comes the Night has me looking particularly at that one. I hope you enjoy these!

  4. We’re already talking about Spring 2021, are we? I’m not sure I’m ready. xD I hadn’t heard of Lost in the Never Woods, but heck. yes. That’s immediately going on my TBR. I’ve already had my eye on Down Comes the Night, and I’m really looking forward to that one, too!

I’m trying to think positive, like maybe by the time next Spring rolls around, things might be back to normal??

  5. I was so excited to see a protagonist with my name and then realized it’s a Peter Pan spin-off. So of course. Haha. Luckily I like those types of stories. 🙂 The Lost Village sounds so good! That’s definitely one I would like to check out. And a gothic fantasy?! Down Comes the Night is going on my wish list too! I hope you enjoy all of these when you read them, Tammy. Stay safe and well.

  6. OohThe Lost VIllage sounds right up my alley! I also love Peter Pan retellings, so that one also looks fantastic, AND gothic fantasy is amazing, so all of these are a huge win to me! Definitely adding them to TBR asap, haha. 🙂

  7. I added The Lost Village earlier this week too! And Gothic does seem to be the hottest thing these days, I have Down Comes the Night on my watchlist but I’m a bit wary about the romantic aspects. I’ll probably wait for reviews and to see what you think before I decide 🙂

I think Mexican Gothic is so popular that now I’m seeing “Gothic” everywhere I turn!
