The Friday Face-Off: Window

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: Windows – Windows to the soul

I got lucky and found a fairly recent release that has several covers. Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett is a book you’ve probably heard of and chances are good you’ve read it as well. I couldn’t get the image of the U.S. cover out of my mind, of Sancia sitting in a window and looking out over the city.

Crown U.S. edition 2018 | UK Jo Fletcher Books edition 2018

German edition 2020 | Chinese edition 2020

It’s going to take a very special cover to beat the Crown cover, in my opinion, although I do love the Jo Fletcher edition too, but it’s missing that vibrancy that draws me to the first one.

Which cover is your favorite?

  1. Couldn’t agree more with your cover choice. I haven’t read this one yet, but look forward to it. I actually just started reading City of Stairs. I’m reading them out of order, already read City of Blades, so I’m reading them #2, #1, #3, and hoping it all comes together. ๐Ÿ™‚

I like them all this time. They pick up & emphasize different aspects of the story. But my heart remains with Sancia in the window, watching the flames. Also, that cover is so well coordinated with the Shorefall cover. I’d like to see the Shorefall covers from UK, Germany & China!

  3. I love that cover too. The little details around the frame, the highlights on the character – it’s really well done.

  4. I don’t know. Man I’ve always loved the US one until now when I saw the German edition. It speaks to me for some reason and isn’t one of the characters a key? Seems I remember that. Great book choice!

  5. You know what’s funny? I see this book a lot at the library, and I never realized that was a window on the cover. xD Wow. The Crown one is my favorite, too, but I agree that the Jo Fletcher one is also amazing.
