Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
I have literally nothing new to report, other than the fact that my daughter flies back to Boston today. She still doesn’t know if her college will be online or in person in the Fall, in fact neither of my kids knows yet. I think that’s the worst part of the COVID situation (aside from the disease itself), the not knowing. My heart breaks especially for kids who graduated this year and weren’t/aren’t able to celebrate. But hey, here is a crow photo my husband took recently to make you feel better:
It’s going to be a BUSY week on the blog, so let’s get started!
Upcoming Reviews:
Check back tomorrow for my review of Unreconciled by W. Michael Gear, the 4th book in Gear’s Donovan series. It was a ton of fun, as usual!
And I’m being optimistic, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to post a review of Chaos Reigning by Jessie Mihalik this week. I’ve just barely cracked it open, but since tomorrow is a holiday, I’ll be able to get a lot of reading done.
The usual memes…
Tuesday I’m posting my Favorite Fantasy Books of 2020 So Far for #wyrdandwonder. Wednesday I have three exciting new fantasy books to share for Future Fiction, and Saturday I’ll FINALLY be doing another Over-Booked book haul post. I may or may not do The Friday Face-Off this week, simply because I’m taking part in a cool event on Friday (see below).
Special blog events:
I’m very excited to be joining Tor Books in their Serialized Excerpt Campaign for To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini, which kicks off this Tuesday. A bunch of bloggers will be highlighting short excerpts of the book on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and then on Friday, all the participants will be posting the complete excerpt. I’m really looking forward to this book, which comes out in September, so if you’ve been wondering about it yourself, now’s your chance to check it out. My excerpt stop is Tuesday, so don’t miss it!
Upcoming Reads:
As for my next reads, these are the next three I plan to read, but I’m not sure in what order that will happen. All three are June releases and I definitely need to get a jump on my June review pile! I don’t think you could pick three more different books to put together: we’ve got fantasy romance (Dragon Unleashed by Grace Draven), epic fantasy (We Ride the Storm by Devin Madson), and science fiction (Hella by David Gerrold).
Giveaway & Wyrd & Wonder wrap up:
Sheesh, I told you it was going to be a busy week…next Sunday is the last day of May, and to wrap up the month-long Wyrd & Wonder event, I’ll be having an international giveaway! One winner will get to choose a book from any of my Wyrd & Wonder posts. Don’t miss it!
Watching:
So I’m just about finished with Riverdale Season 4, and this is definitely my least favorite season. Mostly because I BELIEVE THAT JUGHEAD IS GOING TO DIE. My daughter and I have a bet going. She thinks there will be a big twist at the end and he won’t be dead, but I’m not so sure. Please no spoilers in the comments if you’ve already seen it!
In case you missed…
My posts from last week:
The Bone Ships by R.J. Barker – review
Ten Upcoming Adult Fantasy Books to Get Excited About
Out of Body by Jeffrey Ford – Review
All I will say is that Riverdale is WILD. xD

I KNOW, and it’s killing me. I’m trying not to watch more than 2 shows a night, why am I doing that to myself??
I love the photo! Beautiful silhouettes, the different wing patterns of different sized birds, the line seperating the two. I wish I’d created that. 🙂 I very much like the cover of To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. I’m not familiar with the author, but I hope the story does the cover justice. Just in case, I’ve added to my TBR. And speaking of covers, I wonder if the artist who created the cover for Dragon Unleashed has done anything for Patricia McKillip. It reminds me of her covers.
Thanks Todd! Someone told me that you can tell this is a crow because the tail feathers are straight across, rather than tapered. Not sure if that’s true or not!
I’m not sure, either. I’d have to look that up. There are still many species I’ve not learned to tell apart, and they include several of the corvids (strange how close that name is to our current uninvited guest).
My daughter hasn’t heard about whether not her college will be open in the fall, either. They’ll have a decision by the first week of July.
Good luck to your daughter, Heather. That’s probably when my kids will find out too.
That crow photo is awesome! And yes, I feel you on having nothing new to report. I’m trying to write my Sunday Post right now and as you can see, I’m blog hopping instead of writing, haha.
Ha ha, you actually ended up saying a lot! Sometimes I feel chatty and sometimes I don’t.
I like the photo—very ominous. Do let me know when the Crowman starts showing up, eh? That could create some issues. I’ve always meant to read We Ride the Storm but never got around to it. I’m thrilled that Madson got a major release after years of self-publication, but for me it means that I’ll probably never get time to read it. Unless it’s amazing.
Do let me know if it’s amazing, yeah?
And sorry about your kids and the uncertainty going around. You must’ve enjoyed having your daughter there as long as she was, though.
I will let you know if it’s amazing:-) And then force you to read it, because I do hear it’s really good:-)
It is hard for those who are losing their graduation celebrations or having them way delayed and whatnot. And with colleges not knowing yet if they’re doing physical classes in the fall… so much uncertainty!
the new Paolini books looks interesting.
I’m working on Riverdale S3 and making progress… 🙂

I really had fun with Riverdale S3. And I’m in the home stretch of S4, I swear I’m getting answers soon!!
I agree about the not knowing. It does make it hard to make future plans and how far one can budget for things.
It really is stressful not knowing when all this will end, for sure.
My heart goes out to all the youngsters trapped at home, when they are driven to want to extend their experiences. It has been so hard on those who have just graduated, or just about to. I love the pic of the crow – so hard to catch birds in mid-flight like that! Have a safe, peaceful week, Tammy…
Yes, it’s especially hard for kids, I think. They don’t always understand. Hope your week is wonderful, Sarah!
Well even wihout COVID the not knowing is always the worst. My daughter lives with me at home and we’ve just decided to do online classes indefinitely but she misses the social interaction with friends. Even though things are opening, we aren’t going out.
I’m reading Dragon Unleashed and considering Hella. Have a lovely weekend and stay well!
Anne – Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
Me too, I’m avoiding going out whenever possible! Hope you have a nice long weekend:-)
I’m looking forward to reading Hella!
My son is a high school senior, and we still haven’t gotten much info on their graduation plans, other than that the school is working on doing something virtual. It’s sad — he’d really been looking forward to the senior experience, and now that’s all gone. His college for the fall has already announced that they’ll be online only, so looks like the new freshmen will also be missing out on the starting college experience.
Oh shoot, I’m sorry to hear that about your son’s schools, Lisa. It just plain sucks. I have a feeling a lot of kids are going to defer in order to avoid online classes.
I think you’ll get your Chaos Reigning review up in the time you want – it’s a fast read…and fun 🙂
It’s so much fun! And sort of different from the other books, but in a good way.
The picture is awesome! And I hope that they took some decision soon about education. Here in Italy is the same, nothing is decided yet and there is a lot of confusion!
And I don’t know if I am interested in Paolini’s book, I think I would wait to read some reviews, but the cover is beautiful!
I’m also a little wary of Paolini’s book, simply because he’s known for MG/YA. We shall see!
Hugs to you and your kids. I feel just terrible for those who couldn’t graduate. The kids are having a lot taken from them right now.
They really are, hopefully it will make them stronger in the long run, but it sure is hard now!
That’s an absolutely stunning picture that your husband took, Tammy!!!! 😮 Thanks you for sharing his talent with us. 😛 Is a photographer like Todd? 😮 I look forward to exchanging notes on We Ride the Storm. I plan on reading that in June too. Happy reading and stay safe, Tammy!

Thanks Lashaan! He is a photographer, but he usually takes photos of people. But because of COVID, that’s a hard thing to do these days, so he’s turned to wildlife instead:-)
Just finished up We Ride the Storm! Can’t wait to see what you think of it!!
Oh cool, I’m excited!
ST!!
These really are strange times – my daughter just finished Uni and it all feels so flat. I do feel sorry for the kids really. But, I guess they’ll adapt and one thing for sure is they will remember these times.
Lynn 😀
I wish I could see into the future and know when it’s all going to be over!
I am curious about Hella! I am not as big a fan of Riverdale as some, I think it just goes to way out there just like Sabrina. I am still on the beginning of season three of RD and I think I could take it or leave it. Part of me is curious the other part isn’t lol. They best not mess with my Jughead though! That will really make me not watch it…lol.
I actually have one episode left of RV and I’m watching it tonight:-)
Looks like lots of good blogging stuff ahead! I can’t wait to see what you think of Dragon Unleashed. 🙂
Yeah, I agree, the worst part of this pandemic is just all the not knowing. When are things going to be normal again? Who knows. I hope soon though.
Dragon Unleashed is so good and really addictive!
I also graduated this year, It feels like we have not only missed the celebration but the last moments we had to spend on our campus surrounded by friends. Hopefully, this situation will come to an end for good. They always say to never judge a book by its cover but I am going gaga over the cover of To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. Till then I am thinking to read we ride the storm, as the former is is not going get released by September. I also am a big fan of fantasy fiction.
