The Friday Face-Off: Futuristic #SciFiMonth

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: A cover that is futuristic.

So many choices for this week’s theme! I decided to go with The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi, a book I read a couple of years ago, and so it has a nice selection of covers to choose from. You can’t get much more “futuristic” than space ships and planets! Take a look:

U.S. Tor Books edition 2017 | Tor UK edition 2017

Spanish edition 2018 | German edition 2017

Italian edition 2017 | Thorndike Press (U.S.) edition 2017

I really like all of these, but my favorite is definitely the Italian edition. It’s so dynamic, and I love the movement.

But let me know, which one is your favorite?

I’m torn between the Italian and the German version. I love the Italian version the but colors on the German One appeal to me just a little more I think. Great pick!

  2. This is perfect for this week. I love that Italian one, it feels exciting. I also like the German one a lot and I don’t mind the U.S. Tor, either. 🙂

  3. I’m always fascinated when these contain a book cover I have (though in this case haven’t read yet) to see if I’m always drawn to what’s familiar or whether I’ll just as often be drawn to a different great cover. I don’t know the answer to that but in this instance I’m most drawn to the one I have, the US Tor edition. I really want to read this series, but I have one or two more in the Old Man’s War series I want to read first.

I’ve only read this first book in the series, and the third comes out next year. I’d like to catch up, it’s a pretty good series!

  4. Oh what a wonderful choice for this week! And I’m still not sure why it didn’t occur to me, given that I LOVE this series! I’m going to go with the US Tor edition. Not only do I love the artwork – that funky, eye-catching font nails it for me:).

  5. I really like all of these too because they give me such a Star Wars vibe. 🙂 My favorites are the first one and the one you picked. I love the colors used in the first one and agree with you about the nice sense of movement in the Italian one.
