The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: “Big badda boom.” – A cover that features an explosion
This week was tougher than I thought it would be, but I did find a couple of “explosion” covers for Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, an oldy but goody. Take a look:
Century (U.S.) edition 1985 | Polish edition 2001 | French edition 2001
U.S. edition 1985 | Spanish edition 2013 | Vietnamese edition 2014
Portuguese edition 2006 | Georgian edition 2014 | Latvian edition 2012
Japanese edition 2013 | Greek edition 1996 | Lithuanian edition 2007
Polish edition 2012 | Centipede Press edition 2014 | Hungarian edition 1991
As you can imagine, there are hundreds of editions of this book. I tried to pick ones that really caught my eye, and I do love several of these! But my very favorite is the Vietnamese cover:
I agree 100%. The second I seen that one it was over.
I think the US edition may be the one I read, or close to it. But I completely agree with you, that Vietnamese cover is fantastic. I do wish, though, the text didn’t completely cover the artwork.
So I’m not fulfilling my role as a Portuguese librarian today because like you, I like the Vietnamese cover the best. Some of them are just too busy for me though.
As a side note, today’s topic made me miss The Big Bang Theory!

Good choice! That and the Polish edition are my favorites.
And this is one of those rare instances when I can say that the movie was better than the book… 🙂

Tough one to choose my favorite actually.I think my preference goes to your choice and the Spanish edition 2013.

I almost picked Ender’s game this week! I’ve already done it, but there are so many covers I could have done it again with minimal overlap haha. I think I like the Lithuanian edition 2007 best, but there are a lot of good covers here!

Great choice and I do like your favourite. Especially because you can zoom in and look at the astronauts expression.

I think I like the Polish edition actually, for some reason. and I kinda gravitate towards the US edition as well, but probably just because I’ve seen that one so much.

This is a great choice for this week’s theme, Tammy – I am enjoying the fact that everyone seems to have chosen very different books this week… My favourite is the first cover – a spacescape featuring an explosion takes a lot of beating. While I love the figure in the Vietnamese cover, I don’t like the way the title just merges into it – it took me a while to even register that was the name of the book.
Your winner was the preview image that showed up on my feed, and I knew as soon as I saw it that it would be my favorite too!
The Vietnamese edition is my favorite too!
Ooh, I had never seen some of these covers. I really like the one you picked!
