The Friday Face-Off: Explosion #SciFiMonth

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: “Big badda boom.” – A cover that features an explosion

This week was tougher than I thought it would be, but I did find a couple of “explosion” covers for Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, an oldy but goody. Take a look:

Century (U.S.) edition 1985 | Polish edition 2001 | French edition 2001

U.S. edition 1985 | Spanish edition 2013 | Vietnamese edition 2014

Portuguese edition 2006 | Georgian edition 2014 | Latvian edition 2012

Japanese edition 2013 | Greek edition 1996 | Lithuanian edition 2007

Polish edition 2012 | Centipede Press edition 2014 | Hungarian edition 1991

As you can imagine, there are hundreds of editions of this book. I tried to pick ones that really caught my eye, and I do love several of these! But my very favorite is the Vietnamese cover:

But let me know, which cover is your favorite?

  1. I think the US edition may be the one I read, or close to it. But I completely agree with you, that Vietnamese cover is fantastic. I do wish, though, the text didn’t completely cover the artwork.

  2. Great choice and I do like your favourite. Especially because you can zoom in and look at the astronauts expression.

  3. I think I like the Polish edition actually, for some reason. and I kinda gravitate towards the US edition as well, but probably just because I’ve seen that one so much.

  4. This is a great choice for this week’s theme, Tammy – I am enjoying the fact that everyone seems to have chosen very different books this week… My favourite is the first cover – a spacescape featuring an explosion takes a lot of beating. While I love the figure in the Vietnamese cover, I don’t like the way the title just merges into it – it took me a while to even register that was the name of the book.
