Over-Booked is my every-other-week book haul post, where I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. The new arrivals keep comin’ in, and some highly anticipated books are included in this week’s haul. Here’s what arrived in the past two weeks:
Physical books for review:
Alice by Christina Henry. I have an ARC of Alice, but I was so excited to get this finished paperback as well, which has the really cool artwork on the cover. I’m reading this at the moment (and may be done by the time this post goes up) and I’m loving it! Big thanks to Ace Roc!
The End of All Things by John Scalzi. Finished copy courtesy of Tor Books! I have to admit I haven’t started Scalzi’s series, but this makes me all the more likely to dive in, now that I have the final book in the series.
Our Lady of the Ice by Cassandra Rose Clarke. This is at the very top of my “can’t wait” books for 2015, and I’m thrilled to have a review copy. I definitely did a happy dance when this came! Big thanks to Saga Press!
Nightwise by R.S. Belcher. Another big happy dance for this book! I’m a big fan of Belcher and this is the start of a new series. Thanks to Tor for the finished copy!
And the unsolicited madness of Skyhorse Publishing continues… I received four new books from them only in the past week, and they look pretty good! Thank you for these lovely books:
The Best Horror of the Year Volume Seven is an anthology edited by horror maven Ellen Datlow. This is the second copy I’ve received, I think they really want me to review this, LOL:-)
The Song of Synth by Seb Doubinsky. This one looks like it’s right up my alley, being about drugs and all, ha ha! This is a finished copy and is now available, so I’d like to read it sooner rather than later.
The Pilots of Borealis by David Nabhan. “Top Gun heads to outer space.” Yep, I could totally get into that:-) OK, I have to admit when I first read the title I read it as “The Pilots of Boreanaz,” as in “David Boreanaz.” I may be a little obsessed:-)
Weighing Shadows by Lisa Goldstein. I’ve heard Goldstein’s name a lot but I’ve never read anything by her. This one looks like something I’ll definitely try.
The Rise of the Automated Aristocrats (Burton & Swinburne Book #6) ย by Mark Hodder. Unfortunately, I have not read the first five books in this series, and so I’ll be passing on this one. If anyone out there is reading it, however, I’m happy to send along my copy to you! Thanks to Pyr!
Digital books:
Owl and the City of Angels (The Adventures of Owl #2) by Kristi Charish. For review from Pocket Star. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, and I’m curious to see what other adventures Owl is up to.
Nice Dragons Finish Last (Heartstrikers #1) by Rachel Aaron. After MUCH peer pressure, and many rave reviews, I’ve finally caved and PURCHASED AN E-BOOK. That is something I NEVER do, but in this case I had to make an exception. All you ravers out there, you know who you are:-)
Have you read/are you planning on reading any of these?
The Cassandra Rose Clakre book looks really good. You got some amazing books this week.

Hey this is a familiar looking book haul! I really do hope you’ll give the Scalzi series a shot, Old Man’s War was my portal to sci-fi when I was just starting into the genre and I don’t think I could have chosen a better book.
And I proudly pledge guilty to being one of the mad ravers for NDFL, lol. You won’t regret reading it, and also bonus for supporting an excellent self-published book ๐

I am looking forward to squeezing in NDFL, and I love when so many bloggers friends love the same book:-)
I have no shame for my NDFL and OGDDA rave reviews…that series is so fun and original! Hopefully you love it and we ravers haven’t hyped it up too much. ๐ I snagged an eARC of Owl and the City of Angels, I’m excited to get to that one! Haven’t read anything by Cassandra Rose Clarke, but I really want to.

Oh yes, you’re another blogger who convinced me to read NDFL!
Look forward to reading your review of Alice! I only first heard about it a few weeks ago, but since then, I’ve been dying to hear what it’s all about.
I’m not familiar with Nice Dragons Finish Last, but that’s a fun title. I’d like to hear more about that one, too ๐
Alice is very strange, and yet I do like it a lot. We’ll see how I feel at the end:-)
I also plan on reading NDFL thanks to those rave reviews ๐ and glad to hear Alice is so goo, I may need to give that one a try ๐

It’s pretty short, which is one reason I’m reading it, ha ha! I really need to get an Ace Roc Star review up before that next shipment comes:-)
I am SO jealous of your haul!! I LOVE science fiction myself, but I’ve been reading so much YA, PNR, & UF, I haven’t made time for SF…..my poor little genre…..
Well, I’m bookmarking this page as reference. I’ve GOT to check out all of these books in greater detail!!
BTW, I feel the same way you do about e-books. However, circumstances have recently forced me to start buying them…..I’m running a bit low on cash, so I’m getting as many freebies and inexpensive Kindle books as I can…..So sad, though, as I prefer physical books…..
BTW, how do you get these free books from publishers? Do you simply email them and ask to be put on their list of book reviewers? Would love to know!!
Enjoy all your books!! : )
So many precious books! And so many print ones! Lucky you:)

I haven’t heard of most of these, but I’m probably going to go check them out on Goodreads, because some of them look right up my alley! Great haul! Check out mine in the link below.

I’m looking for to Alice and Owl so will be interested in your reviews of those.
I’m probably also going to pick up a copy of NDFL – the pressure of such good reviews, I can’t help it!
I also really like the look of Our Lady of the Ice.
Nice haul and happy reading.
