Over-Booked (5) – A Book Haul Post

Over booked banner

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest book purchases and review acquisitions, adding more to my already toppling TBR pile! I’m happy to be linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews, and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Stop by their blogs to check out more book haul posts!

I’ve just revamped my blog design, and when I logged on this morning I decided I’d better test the links on my share icons. And for some strange reason, they were all linked to my Goodreads account! I have no idea why this happened, but they are all fixed now, so please feel free to follow me if you haven’t already.

This week I received mostly physical books, including a BEA surprise book from the lovely Tabitha at Not Yet Read! I picked up only one digital review copy from NetGalley, simply because it’s the second book in a series I love. Otherwise I’ve been VERY good about not over-requesting…Here are the books I received during the past two weeks:

overbooked 7-5The Godless by Ben Peek. Won from Goodreads! OK, seriously, I haven’t won a Goodreads giveaway in about three years, so I was shocked to win this book, especially after I had recently listed it as one of my Top Ten Summer Must-Reads. The Godless comes out in August from Thomas Dunne Books.

The Shotgun Arcana by R.S. Belcher. I loved Belcher’s first book in his Golgotha series, The Six-Gun Tarot, and I’m thrilled to be able to read his second book early. The Shotgun Arcana releases this October from Tor Books.

This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. Big thanks to Tabitha at Not Yet Read for sending me this book! I’m thrilled beyond words, because I loved These Broken Stars. And she was also kind enough to send an original sketch of one of her adorable girls:-) Thank you Tabitha!!

The Martian by Andy Weir. I received this from the fairly new Blogging for Books. Now before you get all indignant about this “books in exchange for a review” site, I’m just trying it out to see if I like it. I’ve read a few blog posts about what a horrible idea this is, but I’m sorry to say I don’t share those opinions. Don’t worry, if you have no idea what I’m talking about, I’m going to have a discussion post soon on this very topic. Stay tuned! In the meantime, I’m pretty excited to get a copy of The Martian, which was published earlier this year and got amazing reviews.

Thank you Tor Books, Thomas Dunne Books, Tabitha and Blogging for Books!

Blightborn

Blightborn (The Heartland Trilogy #2) by Chuck Wendig. I absolutely love everything Chuck Wendig writes, and he does young adult really well too. I loved Under the Empyrean Sky, and despite my ban on all things NetGalley and Edelweiss, I couldn’t resist. Thank you NetGalley and Skyscape!

And there you have it…let me know what goodies you received this week!

  1. I had the same experience with Goodreads giveaway. I haven’t won in years since I first opened my account. But I’d entered one giveaway for some reason the other week and then told I won. I couldn’t believe it! I’m spp glad you’re excited for the book I sent and that you like the sketch! I’m jealous over your copy of The Godless!

  2. Enjoy! I haven’t read any except The Martian – well actually I listened to the audio. It was incredible, very technical in places but I loved it.

  3. Hey, maybe I should try entering a goodreads giveaway and try my luck, since everyone seems to be winning these days again (I’ve pretty much given up after so long). I also have The Godless but got the one from Tor UK – the covers are so different! And enjoy The Martian, I hope to be reading that one soon.

  4. Ugh, Goodreads giveaways. I haven’t won one of those since high school! Very excited to hear your thoughts on This Shattered World – I haven’t read the first book since I was a bit suspicious that it’d be too similar to Beth Revis’ books, but everyone seems to love them. Your blog looks fabulous, by the way!

  5. I’ll have to check out Blogging for Books. I don’t have a problem with the concept either but I’m interested to see your post about the issue. I need more books like another hole in my head but that doesn’t seem to stop me! I’ve heard some great things about The Martian. Congrats on not over requesting! I’ve yet to master that art. Have a great week!

    • I’m the same, I certainly don’t need any more books, but it’s nearly impossible to say no to free ones, especially if you really want to read them!

  6. Wow, great haul, Tammy! I’m hoping to fit The Martian in some time this summer too, and The Godless, OMG The Godless is one of my highly anticipateds too. Congrats on winning it, and YES, Tabitha is AWESOME 😉

  7. I’ve only won one GR giveaway in five years, so I rarely even try anymore! I get very lucky with LibraryThing giveaways though 🙂
Ooh I didn’t see The Martian on BFB. I picked up another book and am feeling the pressure to read it soon! (I look forward to your discussion on that topic)
So cool you got a copy of This Shattered World!

I love your new blog makeover btw – such a pretty color palette. I love blues and greens.

    • Thanks Lucy! I also get lucky with LT, although I’m actually two books behind and I’m holding off until I review those before I request any more:-)
