It’s been a long, hot week here, with temps in the high 80s most days. Ugh. We have a few days coming up with cooler temperatures, but then they are going back up again. Hey, summer! We also have a pretty big fire burning close to us, so we’re all sort of on fire watch. I doubt we’ll have to evacuate, but you never know. Fingers crossed they will get it under control soon.
Today’s photo is from our garden, one of the four or five species of woodpeckers that live up here. We love our woodpeckers!

Upcoming reads & reviews:
It’s been a slow reading week. I’m just distracted by other things, not sure why. But I will post two reviews this week, even if I have to stay up past my bedtime finishing them, lol. Mudlark is very slow. It’s OK, but it’s not blowing me away like I hoped it would. My review will be up tomorrow. I’ve also dipped into Be Still My Unbeating Heart. It’s also just OK at this point. It’s a little goofier than I like, and the writing is rather simplistic, but maybe it’s because I’ve been reading some absolutely fantastic, well written books lately, so I’m comparing it to those. We’ll see how it goes as I get further in. After that, I’m probably going to pick up The Farewitch of Foxe Holler and Bestiary.

The heat has me on my knees…sorry to hear you’re in the same boat. I hope you don’t get another fire crisis this year…I remember what happened to you the last time.

I have to admit that was exactly my impression when I did my authenticity read. The writing itself is very different from the one in The Shadow Glass…
My review is up tomorrow and it was tough to write! I don’t like writing negative reviews, but I’ve read some AMAZING books lately, so I have to rate it in relation to those.
Yesterday was a bit cooler but today and the coming week are going to be upper 80s-90s, so glad for ac! I also have been seeing woodpeckers but mine are the pileated woodpecker.
I need to look that one up, I’m not familiar with it:-)
I hope you don’t need to evacuate due to the fires. It reminds me of the last few years we’ve had smoke come through from wildfires and the burning smell was bad.
Nice woodpecker pic! The ones by us have red on their heads and are called Pileated woodpeckers. I saw one a few months ago for the first time. Enjoy your books this week 🙂

Fingers crossed you don’t have to evacuate again! Yeah, I am not a fan of this heat. I know it’s summer, but I still don’t like it. I used to hear a woodpecker in one of my trees all the time. I think maybe that is the tree that fell a couple years ago because I haven’t heard them in a while. I still need to go check out your 15th blogoversary post! How exciting! Lots of good books and I’m finally caught up on reviews! Yay!
I love hearing woodpeckers in the trees, although they don’t all “peck” lol.
All these wild fires are very nerve wracking. I was hoping that the weather was going to be wet today but so far no rain. It is a bit cooler though which is good. My reading is going okay, I’m enjoying HG Parry atm. Hope your reads pick up during the week.

I hope you’re reading enjoyment picks up with the next books you have on deck. And I hope that fire keeps its distance. That must get nerve racking sometimes. On a positive note, I love that woodpecker! It’s a species we don’t have out this way.
I didn’t realize woodpeckers weren’t everywhere, but I guess that makes sense. We don’t have some of the bird species I’ve seen on your blog here:-)
We’re even hotter and not much rain. It’s predicted sometimes but we don’t get it. I’m doing a little better with reading since I got home but still trying to catch up.

We have 4 types of common woodpeckers in our yard, but not this one! So cute. My favorite is the red headed

I love the woodpecker photo! Too hot here too, and we lost the tree that had my camera birdfeeder in a storm 🙁 I spend half my time at home yelling to see if someone watered my plants 😉

And now I know that there are different kinds of woodpeckers! He is cute!
There are lots of different kinds! And my husband, who knows a ton about birds, says all the different kinds are red, black and/or white (or combinations of those colors).
How very worrying having to monitor the fire! I hope you don’t have to evacuate. And that woodpecker is so striking. We get them here in the UK, but we’re not near any woodland, so I don’t see them much. I’m finding my reading has slowed right down, too. Hope you have a cooler week, Tammy!

Sorry to hear that you’ve had a couple of just okay reads and are also struggling heat wise. Its been too hot here too and I can’t wait for the temperature to break. I think I forgot to tag it as such but my review for The Red Sacrament was one of my Summer Of Horror reads. Looking forward to hearing what you think of Farewitch whenever you get to it. My readings been slow too as I’m really struggling to keep up between here and Instagram lately. Love the woodpecker picture too.
