Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Today I have three upcoming horror releases to share, take a look:

A hundred years ago, a witch sold her soul to save her life—but now she must stop the devil from collecting his due in this gripping and nuanced debut horror novel.
The devil was as my mother and grandmother had always described him: polite enough that you might forget yourself, so beautiful that you’d want to, so dangerous if you did.
Attacked by the man she desired and at the brink of death, Tess Wynne vowed she would do anything to live—and the devil heard her. Their bargain meant she would remain ageless and tethered to the land she nearly died on, at the edge of the isolated Appalachian town of Burrsville. Her home is now a wildlife sanctuary, and the spells she’s woven keep the land and community safe.
But then Tess rescues an orphaned fawn with unnatural appetites, and her instinct to protect this strange creature puts her at odds with Burrsville’s residents. And when a new pastor comes to town and begins chipping away at the trust she’s gained, threatening the sanctuary and its animals, the careful edges of Tess’s world begin to fray.
The devil whispers in her ear that he can save the sanctuary if she’ll just pay his price, and Tess must decide if she’ll trust in her own magic to save what she loves—or surrender to his will.
The Devil Knows Her Name by C.N. Vair. Releases in August 2026 from Berkley. I love the sound of this, and I love the cover too. I’m curious about the animal sanctuary and the “fawn with unnatural appetites.

Cousins Rosella and Gabe have always had a complicated relationship with Ming, Rosella’s estranged father and Gabe’s beloved uncle. When the news hits that Ming has passed away and left behind the run-down apartment building in San Jose the two of them grew up in, they’re left with a complicated choice: In a briskly gentrifying neighborhood, do they sell the land? Demolish the building? Or attempt to repair a place that means very different things to them both?
But as they explore the aging building, something is visiting them―and not just memories of their youth. Trauma lives in these walls, manifested in echoes of the people who lived here before, making for a haunting unlike anything they’ve seen in movies. And when the building is marked for demolition, the cousins realize they have one last chance to get inside and free these tortured souls. Perhaps if they can figure out what happened in the past, they can help heal people in the present.
New York Times–bestselling author Mike Chen explores new depths of horror, along with themes of generational trauma and the Asian American experience, in a novel that’s perfect for fans of Gabino Iglesias and Alyssa Cole.
The Haunting of Santo Domingo Street by Mike Chen. Releases in February 2027 from Podium Publishing. First, I know the release day is waayyy out there. But Podium Publishing is putting out some really good books, and I’m definitely interested in reading this!

A wolf sets out on an epic journey of revenge in this one-of-a-kind dark fantasy—the long-awaited second novel from the author of The Library at Mount Char, hailed as a “major talent” (The Wall Street Journal)
The wolf Blacktail is faithful to his Forest God, but in these times, faith is not enough. His world is besieged by men. Soon his territory will be overrun, and then there will be nowhere left to go. When his mate, a house dog, is killed, Blacktail rebels. He invades the house of her owners, seeking vengeance.
Blacktail’s fury catches the notice of an ancient and terrible feline witch, who makes an offer. What if Blacktail could end the human race responsible for the death of his family and for the destruction of the natural world, altogether? To do so, Blacktail must find and wake the Forest God. Only He might stand against the plague of men. Blacktail knows that his north woods are dwindling to nothing. He sees no other choice.
As Blacktail journeys farther from his wild home and deeper into the world of man, he encounters strangers—animal, mortal, and otherworldly—who, for their own reasons, want to help Blacktail rid the world of humans. Along the way, it becomes clear that he is more than just a wolf. The Forest God is sleeping, yes. But what will be the price of waking him?
Blacktail by Scott Hawkins. Releases in September 2026 from Crown. I still haven’t read The Library at Mount Char, but it’s still on my TBR (and I have a copy in my library). His new books sounds really good, and I love that it’s from the perspective of a wolf.

I love the red theme LOL. Chen’s sounds intriguing…
While I won’t be diving between the covers of any of these offerings, Tammy – I LOVE the covers of the first two books! Happy reading:).
The second cover is really neat. Enjoy!
I’m really looking forward to Mike Chen’s new book!
Some great choices this week. I have read two previous books by Mike Chen and enjoyed them both. Is this Hawkins’ first book since Mount Char? I read that so many years ago and while I didn’t think I loved it at the time, it has certainly stuck with me and definitely made a lasting impression. It has two lions, Dreden and Naga I really enjoyed. You have to make time for it!
Thanks for sharing these. I don’t have any of them on my TBR. The Haunting of Santo Domingo Street looks really interesting.
The Haunting of Santo Domingo Street is really tempting. I’m always on the lookout for (genre) books set in the SF Bay Area but not San Francisco itself, and I enjoy Mike Chen’s writing. So while it’s nearly a year away, this one is on my list, too. But I hadn’t seen before that now it has a cover! Very cool.
oh my gosh, The Devil Knows Her Name sounds FANTASTIC, I was won over by “polite enough that you might forget yourself, so beautiful that you’d want to, so dangerous if you did.” but then there’s an animal sanctuary too? Adds to tbr!
And I’m incredibly torn about Blacktail, it says a dog gets killed right away which scares me away but I did read The Library at Mount Char and really liked it so I guess I’ll wait to see people’s reviews on that one :s
Each one sounds interesting and worth trying, and I don’t have any idea which I’d try first. 🙂
Wow, these all look and sound amazing – I’m really drawn to The Devil Knows Her Name though.
Lynn 😀
Ive added the first of these to my TBR although it turns out its simply called ‘Fawn’ over here. I’ll have to watch out for some reviews before deciding about the last title though I think. It has some concepts involved that intrigue me and I’m curious about the wolf’s POV but I’m also wary as to what the animal content will be like. I hope you enjoy all of these.
Blacktail sounds great! I’m curious about the Mike Chen book — I have a few of his fantasy/sci-fi books on my TBR, and this one sounds so different!
