Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!
Today I’m sharing my February book haul, which is…a little bigger than I expected, lol. I have only read one of these so far, but I’m excited for the others. Luckily my NetGalley haul is under control: I was only approved for one book this month! Here are my latest review books, which I’ll be reading and reviewing in the coming months:
Books in the mail for review:

First up, a very cool bunch of books from Tor! Hugs to Tor for all of these:-D
The Language of Liars by S.L. Huang is a science fiction novella that deals with linguistics, and I’m really looking forward to it. Also, this will be my first book by the author:-)
I was thrilled to get a copy of We Burned So Bright by T.J. Klune. I requested it, but I don’t always get every Tor book I request, so it was a nice surprise. This is also a novella, and after my last experience with the author, I can’t wait to dive in.
Another Tor book I requested and was surprised to receive is Mortedant’s Peril by R.J. Barker, who wrote the brilliant Tide Child series. This is described as “fantasy murder mystery,” which is a genre that’s become very popular lately.
Isles of the Emberdark by Brandon Sanderson. I hate to admit it, but I have never read one of Sanderson’s books, and I was hoping this might be a good place to start, since it’s billed as a standalone. But I have seen a few reviews saying you shouldn’t read it if you haven’t dipped into the world of the Cosmere yet, so I might be in trouble, lol.
Morsel by Carter Keane is yet another novella! This story apparently has a dog in it, so fingers crossed the doggie survives:-)
And finally from Tor, I received a copy of Dead Weight by Hildur Knútsdóttir. I read and loved The Night Guest, so I’m excited to dive into her latest.
I was very excited to receive a finished copy of Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter, courtesy of Del Rey. It’s a gorgeous, shiny, coverless book. I already read and loved it!

Here is another exciting batch of books! Starting with The Sixth Nik by Daniel Kraus, with thanks to Saga Press for the review copy! I will read anything Kraus writes, and this seems very different from his other books.
Big thanks to Del Rey for a copy of The Inn at the Foot of Mount Vengeance by Chiara Bullen, which is a cozy fantasy that might involve a dragon…
I was so excited to be offered a copy of Christopher Golden’s latest, Carry Me to My Grave, with thanks to Kaye Publicity for the review copy:-) Horror on a train? Sounds like fun!
I’m over the moon excited to have a copy of Jitterbug by Gareth L. Powell, courtesy of Titan Books. I will be reading this very soon!
The Verdant Cage by Jess Lourey is a YA distsopian/mystery, and it sounded good enough that I broke my “No YA” rule for once! Big thanks to Sparks Point Studio for the review copy.
Finally, I receive Year of the Mer by L.D. Lewis, with thanks to Saga Press. Unfortunately, I am seeing a bunch of mixed reviews for this, but hopefully it will work better for me.
Digital books for review:

Just one lonely NetGalley book this month, but it’s a great one! Newbourne Park by Jennifer Thorne, who wrote the most amazing Diavola. I cannot wait! Big thanks to Putnam for the approval:-)

Enjoy Brandon Sanderson! I’ve read his first two series of Mistborn so far and loved them. I can’t wait to read more.
I can’t wait!
Ah, I didn’t notice the Klune was a novella! That makes me tempted to request it, I can probably make time… I’ve enjoyed his books a lot.
I do like his novel length books, but I’m happy to read a novella too:-)
Such gorgeous covers, enjoy them! I’ve had my eye on Diavola.
You MUST check out Diavola. It’s one of my favorite books ever:-)
Oooh, Newbourne Park is on NetGalley now? I need to go put in a request! I can’t wait to read We Burn So Bright and Dead Weight. Amazing haul!
Yes, go request it! I’m super excited:-)
Oh wow thats amazing about the finished copy of Agnes Aubert’s and I’d love to have Mortedant’s Peril in my hands already!! I didnt realise We Burned So Bright was a novella but it sounds fantastic. And I’m yet to read anything by Sanderson somehow too. This year I’m determined to change that. I also hadn’t realised Year Of The Mer was getting mixed reviews, I really hope it works for you.
I hope you enjoy all of these. I realised I hadn’t requested anything since prior to September so I let myself put in half a dozen or so requests this week.
Thank you Charlotte! I hope we both get to cross Sanderson off our lists this year:-)
Fantastic haul! I really need to dog to survive in Morsel by Carter Keane or I can’t read it. I love dogs too much.
I hear you! Me too, not sure what I will do if the dog doesn’t survive:-/
I still really want to read Gareth Powell.
I just love his books. Lots of great action, found family, humor and uplifting.
Such a great haul! We will be reading many books in common, definitely going to be checking out the Sixth Nik and Dead Weight, Mortedant’s Peril, and Carry Me to My Grave.
Thanks! We have a lot to look forward to:-)
This is a gorgeous haul. I’m positively pea green with envy 😀 I confess I’m intrigued by the Christopher Golden and also Newbourne Park – I have no idea what it’s about but the cover has won me over. I am literally that fickle.
Lynn 😀
Ha ha me too! It’s a gorgeous cover and I have high hopes for the story:-)
Excellent haul! I’ll keep an eye out for your review of “The Sixth Nik”!
Thank you!
I too loved Agnes Aubert and requested We Burned so Bright without reading the blurb. Big mistake as it’s about the end of our world and I am not in the mood right now to read that one!
I guess it’s not the right time to read about the end of the world…hopefully Klune will put a positive spin on it!
Nice haul and I love the cover of that Thorne book. I love the two books I’ve read by Klune and really want to read a few more by him.
Lots of interesting looking titles here. I’m probably most curious about The Sixth Nik.
