Future Fiction #370 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Dogs, cats and rabbits, here are three animal-centric horror stories, all coming out this October, take a look:

A young woman wakes up to find the black hound of Death at her front door in this hauntingly beautiful tale from USA Today bestselling author Cassandra Khaw.

Antigone is no stranger to death.

For the women of her family, death always comes in the form of a black dog.

When Antigone’s own black dog arrives, she isn’t afraid. She invites it inside, where it soon becomes a daily source of companionship and comfort. It also forces her to reflect on the life she’s led—the parts of herself she’s hollowed out for the sake of others, and the bone-deep exhaustion that’s hounded her every step.

Her Death’s arrival must be a sign, permission to finally let go. To rest. Because while mortality is inevitable, living is a choice.

But a good death comes at a price.

Find Me Where It Ends by Cassandra Khaw. Releases in October 2026 from Tor Nightfire.  The black hound of Death on the cover is so cute! I love Cassandra Khaw books, and I have no doubt I’ll love their new one too:-)

The Wicker Man  meets The Twisted Ones in Bitter Karella’s Quaint Folk—a queer folk horror novel that peels back the idyllic veneer of a seemingly perfect island town to reveal the rot beneath.

From the outside, it looks like Jessica has the perfect life. She’s a stay-at-home mom, married to a man with a respectable job, raising a son they adore. Her family is as wholesome as all-American pie. But deep down, Jessica knows there’s something wrong with her; she knows she can’t escape her past.

When her husband’s job has them move abroad, Jessica thinks this is her chance for a fresh start. On the remote island of Hasenhurst, the modern world can’t get in. The people there grow their own herbs, make their own jam, and mind their own business. They believe in folk tales and the power of dreams. They tell visitors, we’re a quaint, quiet people. The right sort of family would do well here.

Jessica is determined to be the right kind of person for a family—and a life—like this. But as she tries to befriend the townsfolk and learn their ways, she soon realizes that beneath the town’s cozy idyll, something sickly-sweet and rotten lays buried…

Quaint Folk by Bitter Karella. Releases in October 2026 from Run For It. I’m loving this brightly colored cover, and I’m getting strong folk horror vibes. This sounds really good!

From the New York Times bestselling author of Hidden Pictures and The Last One at the Wedding comes a new supernatural thriller about a young woman pet-sitting a cat with a mysterious secret, featuring more than sixty pages of illustrations.

Meet Penny Padgett, a twenty-seven-year-old cartoonist in Philadelphia who agrees to pet-sit a very peculiar cat named Godfrey. At first, he’s a warm and affectionate companion. Godfrey follows Penny all around the house and insists on sleeping by her side every night. But soon strange things are happening. Penny is haunted by disturbing and violent nightmares. There’s a terrible insect infestation in her basement. Her cute cartoon illustrations turn dark and surreal, as if influenced by some invisible hand. And her health starts failing, as if her mind and body are under attack by a sinister, malevolent force.

Penny may be a cat person, but she’s starting to think Godfrey is no ordinary cat . . .

Fully illustrated with sixty pages of original artwork, Jason Rekulak’s new novel is intensely plotted, wonderfully frightening, and wildly clever. He more than lives up to his reputation as having “a freakishly fertile imagination” (The New York Times).

Look What the Cat Dragged In by Jason Rekulak. Releases in October 2026 from Flatiron Books. I had so much fun with Hidden Pictures, and I love that Rekulak’s upcoming book will also have illustrations. This sounds amazing!

  1. The first one would normally pique my interest, but I tried to read Cassandra Khaw’s The All-Consuming World a few years ago and I DNF it in a matter of minutes LOL. Alas, her writing style is not for me.

The third one, yikes. I’ll keep an eye on the reviews!

I saw the Goodreads stats for The All Consuming World, and it seems you aren’t the only one who didn’t enjoy it!

  2. I’m really curious about the illustrations in Look What the Cat Dragged In. I almost featured the Khaw book myself but went a different direction. Oh well, all three of these are now on my wish list!

  3. Horror books with animals on the cover always make me nervous. I added the middle one to my TBR earlier this week. The other two are potential maybes depending on how disturbing reviews make them out to be lol
