Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!
January’s book haul is small compared to last month, and that’s a good thing! And I’m excited for each one of these:
Books in the mail for review:

The Gatepost by Tim Weed is very high on my most anticipated list for 2026, so I’m thrilled to have a review copy! If you haven’t heard me go on and on about Tim’s The Afterlife Project, where have you been? LOL. Huge thanks to Podium Publishing for the review copy:-D
With thanks to Orbit Books, I received a copy of The Tricky Business of Faerie Bargains by Reena McCarty. I do love a good cozy fae story, and hopefully this will deliver!
I’m very excited to have a copy of A Forest, Darkly by A.G. Slatter. This is part of Slatter’s Sourdough Universe, from which I have only read one book, so hopefully this will be a standalone. Thank you Titan Books!
Big thanks to Bramble for a copy of Enchanting the Fae Queen by Stephanie Burgis, which I have already read and reviewed!
Finally, I’m so happy to be working with Apex Publishing again. They are one of the first publishers I worked with when I started my blog. They have a new imprint called Violet Lichen, and The Cellar Below the Cellar by Ivy Grimes is one of their first releases. Bonus: it’s horror! I’m so excited! Huge thanks to Apex/Violet Lichen for the review copy:-)
Digital books for review:
Just three new NetGalley/Edelweiss books this month, and I’m excited about each one!
I’m so relieved that the publisher offered me a copy of The Caretaker by Marcus Kliewer via Edelweiss, because my NetGalley request was just hanging out doing nothing, lol. I cannot wait!
I’m also thrilled to have a copy of The Jellyfish Problem by Tessa Yang, which I featured not too long ago on Future Fiction.
Home Sick by Rhiannon Grist will be perfect for Summer of Horror! I’m always up for new haunted house stories, and this sounds great.
Big thanks to Atria, Berkley and Solaris:-D

Looks like another great haul. I especially cant wait to hear what you think of The Tricky Business Of Faerie Bargains (you know I love a fae book), The Caretaker (I need to know if it screws with your mind anywhere near as much as the authors debut) and The Jellyfish Problem. I hope you love all of these.
I have a feeling The Caretaker is going to be another weird one!
Great haul this month, Tammy! If I ever get around to reading the first book 😛
Thanks Stephanie!
Ooh, I’ll have to look into The Cellar Below the Cellar. Thanks for introducing me!
It sounds creepy, right?
I’m interested in A Forest, Darkly — I’ve only read one book by this author so far, but I’ve been wanting to read more. Great haul!
Thanks Lisa!
What an excellent book haul! I’m slowly dipping my toes back in with audio and I admire and appreciate your ability to consistently write such through and honest reviews. I was so burned out for so long!
Thank you Laurie! I know how real burnout is…
I’m finally finishing the Stephanie Burgis book today!
She is such a solid writer, I will pick up anything she writes:-)
I also got the Tricky Business of Faerie Bargain!
I’m excited for it!
I have a eARC of Caretaker too, I am curious but not sure as I am hit or miss with thrillers.
His last book was super weird and I expect this one to be too…
How many interesting titles!! We share The Tricky Business of Faerie Bargains and I am soooo curious about the new Slatter’s book!!
I hope we both love them!
I can’t wait to read The Caretaker! I’m off to learn more about The Cellar Below the Cellar!
I may need to read The Caretaker early!
I’m really tempted by The Tricky Business of Faerie Bargains — I didn’t request an ARC because I know I’m already feeling a little overwhelmed with them for 2026, but I’m eager to see people’s reviews and decide whether to buy a copy later!
I mostly base my choices on reviews too, especially bloggers I trust!
Lovely book haul.
I have just read the latest Slatter and I loved it. It’s got this fairytale feel and it’s just excellent. I couldn’t put it down, defo a five star read for me. And, yes, it can be read without having read any of the other Sourdough books.
Lynn 😀
Thanks Lynn. I loved your review of the Slatter book, I may have to start it next:-)
I’m also curious about A Forest, Darkly! I haven’t read any of Slatter’s other works, so I’m hoping that whatever one I end up starting with will be a good starting point. (I see from a prior comment that this one can be read without any prior knowledge of the series, so maybe I’ll start here!)
I’m all about the stand alone novels these days!
Thanks for the reminder that I need to download The Tricky Business of Fairy Bargains…like I don’t have enough e-ARCs, lol!!!
Right???
I love Apex! They’ve published some amazing stories and I wish I had more time to give to their books and to smaller publishers in general.
I was so happy when they contacted me, since I haven’t worked with them in years.
Only EIGHT?? Wow, you’re going to run out of things to read;)
LOL
Some great looking books here. I have a copy of Home Sick as well. Hope we both love our new books!
Home Sick sounds perfect for us!
Violet Lichen, what a name for an imprint. Pretty cool. 🙂
I received some of the same ARCs/eARCs, too.
I need to start reading A.G. Slatter’s books!
