I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! Mine was very different than I expected. California was hit with a terrible storm on Christmas Eve, and there was statewide flooding, road closures and mud slides. My little mountain town was hit especially hard, and we lost power for four days. Lots of homes up here were damaged, and despite the inconvenience of no power or internet, I feel lucky that our house is fine. Our Christmas plans were scuttled a bit, but we did manage to drive up to my parents’ house on Christmas day, so it wasn’t a complete loss. The power is back! Although we did run out and buy a generator (and now I know way more about generators than I want to, lol), so at least we’re set for next time.
Upcoming reads & reviews:
Last week was a pretty slow reading week, and I finally finished 30Seven, which took a solid week for me to get through. I’ll post my review tomorrow, and heads up, it was just OK for me. I’m currently reading two books, Through Gates of Garnet and Gold and Definitely Maybe Not a Detective, and I may or may not post a review of one of these this week. After that it’s on to another highly anticipated January book, How to Lose a Goblin in Ten Days.

With the change over to a new month (and year!), I have a lot to post this week! I’m participating in Top Ten Tuesday, which is Recent Additions to my TBR (always an easy prompt) Wednesday is the regular Future Fiction. It’s also the last day of the month, and I’m debating whether or not to do a December Wrap-Up. Thursday is January 1st (Happy New Year!) and I’ll share my January reading plans; and Friday I’m wrapping up my 2025 Reading Challenges, so check in to see how I did.

What a Christmas! Though I suppose there were areas that had it worse than yours…The same thing happened in Italy – very bad weather in certain zones, but the worst we saw here was rain.

Yes, it was so weird. Near the wash, which is where all the snow melt flows, the wash flooded and went into nearby houses. Also the areas that were affected by the fires last year didn’t have any brush or trees to stop the water, so they had a terrible time. It’s like the apocalypse here!
Oh Gosh! I am glad that your home is fine and that you managed to spend Christmas with your parents, but I am sorry for all the rest!!

Oof, glad everything turned out okay with the aftermath of the storm, but what chaos! Hope you managed to have a good time on Christmas Day anyway.

I heard about the craziness out your way on the news and wondered if you were being affected at all. Sorry to hear about losing power! My stepdad had put a generator at my mom’s last house, I know if she has power issues she will miss that at her new house. I’m just hoping she doesn’t have any or at least not as often as we seem to have them up where I live which is close to where she used to live. Glad you were able to still get out and visit family. I am hoping for more time to check out some of your reviews this week too! Love the Badger picture, so cute!

Well I’m glad your home is ok. Are you where no power means no water? With water it might be doable but bad for the fridge and freezer. Is the generator for electricity? With my solar panels and battery backup I’d have some power, maybe not enough for all day especially when more cloudy. Happy holidays Badger! So do you have this week off now? I hope you have a happy New Year.
We actually still had water, even hot water. The generator was for electricity, so we needed it for everything else. And yes, I have the week off! I’m so happy to be able to read and blog and stay warm, lol. Happy New Year!

That was quite the Christmas. I’m glad you survived and that your power is back on. What kind of generator did you end up buying? We’ve been considering a Generac, but it’s a little pricey. Glad you got to spend some time with family, and I hope the new year brings good surprises with it, not bad. 😀
We got a Predator, which was more than we wanted to spend, but we were panicking and bought it!

I did wonder how you were coping when I heard about the terrible weather that hit California. Very glad that you managed to avoid damage to your home – but having no power for 4 days must have been a challenge. And also glad that you were able to still retrieve some of your Christmas plans. I love the pic of Badger – moody and a tad gothic with a festive twist! He ought to be on a book cover!! A Happy New Year to you and yours, Tammy:)).

I’m glad things are okay now in your part of our state! My little part of the SF Bay Area got a lot of rain and some wind, but only lost power for a handful of minutes. We barely had enough time to pull out the flashlights and candles before the power came back. We were watching reports from the rest of the state and counting our blessings.
It’s hard to believe that there’s only a couple of days left in the year. Though, that does mean that I’m closer to getting my hands on my preorder copy of Through Gates of Garnet and Gold. 😉 Happy New Year!
