Future Fiction #359 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

I love the way these blue covers look together, and the stories sound fantastic too! Take a look:

An out-of-work actress gets a job as a tour guide for an ultra-luxury time travel company—only to discover her trips to the past could upend her present—in this sharp, speculative debut novel.

When Ash spots an ad for Retro during a depressing Instagram scroll—she’s in debt and unemployed; everyone else is, evidently, thriving—she’s surprised the algorithm sent it her way. She’s heard of recreational time travel, but it’s way out of her budget. Then she sees the Come away with us! We’re hiring.

So begins Ash’s life as a Time Travel Agent, leading wealthy tourists on vacations to historical hotspots. She takes bachelorette parties to live out their cowboy-romance fantasies in the Old West and throws “’20s for your twenties” birthday bashes at speakeasies; she smiles politely as rich Wall Street guys give prospecting a shot in the Gold Rush. It’s all thrilling, outrageous, and totally surreal. Bygone America is just a Retro Metro ride away.

Despite Ash’s tendency toward cynicism, she finds herself swept up in her dazzling new job. Sure, Ash isn’t the actress she always dreamed she’d be. But isn’t this so much better? It’s like Ash’s life is a movie, complete with an impossible love triangle. How is she supposed to choose between her mysterious office crush and the handsome private eye pursuing her in 1937?

For the first time in years, Ash’s life feels enviable—so she’d really rather not pay attention to the strange things happening to her memory and relationships outside Retro. But as her trips threaten to unravel her real life, she confronts an unsettling “escaping” into the past was never really an escape at all.

Retro by Jessica M. Goldstein. Releases in June 2026 from Ballantine Books. I’m getting some Ashley Poston vibes from this book, and I love the mix of different elements. It sounds like so much fun!

Delilah is dead. But her story is far from over. In this feminist supernatural suspense novel, she will find her peace—and give hell to the man who killed her.

When Delilah wakes, all she remembers is the pain and the anger. She knows she isn’t alive anymore. She knows someone hurt her. She can’t remember who.

Frightening creatures stalk Delilah in the space between life and death, eager to feed upon her suffering until her soul is reduced to a poltergeist. She can’t pass on until the balance has been restored—a life for a life: the death of her killer.

There is one person Delilah trusts to find her murderer and keep the darkness at bay: Magda. And when a stranger comes to town seeking Magda’s spirit-medium help, too, Delilah notices something different about him. He can see her. He can feel her, love her, make her feel alive again before she’s really gone.

The three come together to solve Delilah’s murder, but as the creatures close in, time runs out. There will be one night, Halloween, when the veil will drop and Delilah may walk among the living for the last time.

Delilah may be damned, but she’s not going down alone. Those who’ve harmed her are going, too.

Saint Delilah by Isabelle Spotts. Releases in August 2026 from Berkley. The cover is so eye-catching, and the supernatural story sounds very good. I love the idea of a dead girl trying to solve her own murder.

A startling hybrid of the Alien franchise and Ender’s GameThe Sixth Nik is the first sci-fi novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Whalefall and Angel Down.

Deep into space, far past the triworld outposts, beyond range of the lethal trollbot internet, soars The a ship woven from biomatter and capable of reacting to every need of its human crew. Sisilla, a nine-year-old cultist with a brain enhanced by arcane tech known as “niks,” has boarded to investigate the enigma of Fém—a plague-riddled planet that has abruptly gone rogue.

The mysterious crew includes a faceless assassin, a beautiful engineer jigsawed by plastic surgery, a peyote-addicted medic, and—most lethal of all—a rugged, NonModded captain with a score to settle with Sisilla. Other dangers abound. A hacked robot begins to believe Sisilla is its daughter. The Sickness itself is mutating, possibly even pregnant. And the secret of Fém is more horrific than anyone could have imagined. To survive, Sisilla will need to forsake her predetermined fate and embrace the unknown.

The Sixth Nik by Daniel Kraus. Releases in June 2026 from Saga Press. I added this to my TBR simply because of the author, but I’m very curious about the story too. It sounds crazy, but hopefully Kraus can pull it off!

  1. The first two sound awesome…I’d give them a try if the first one didn’t have a love triangle (seriously? still a thing?) and the other a doomed love story.

  2. You’re right about all the covers – they are stunning and look fabulous together:)). I’m very taken with Retro and will keep an eye for it. And The Sixth Nix sounds absolutely bonkers! Thank you for sharing.

  3. Lovely covers and I’m adding the first two to my wish list. Retro sounds fun and I can’t resist the synopsis of Saint Delilah. That is a switch up from Daniel Kraus and I may be interested after reading a few reviews. Great choices this week!

I usually read anything Kraus writes, but I’m hesitating a bit on this one too. Hopefully early reviews will be good!

  4. I think I’m going to have to watch out for a few reviews of The Sixth Nik then decide if its going on my TBR or not. I love the sound of the character mix but I’m not sure if as a beginning to sci fi a lot of the details are going to go over my head
