Over-Booked [211] – October Book Haul

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

I have a fairly modest book haul this month, and I expect it to be this way for the rest of the year. And what a great bunch of books, I’m excited for all of these!

Books in the mail for review:

Big thanks to Orbit Books for How To Lose a Goblin in Ten Days by Jessie Sylva, a cozy fantasy/romance with the most adorable cover!

Courtesy of Ace Books, I was thrilled to receive a copy of The Keeper of Magical Things by Julie Leong. I am extremely behind with my October review books so I haven’t read this yet, but rest assured I will be starting it soon.

Also from the lovely folks at Ace Books, I received Witches of Dubious Origin by Jenn McKinlay. Ace is putting out some good cozy fantasy/romances lately, and this is another one I’m anxious to read!

I’m thrilled to have a copy of The Place Where They Buried Your Heart by Christina Henry, and if fact I’m currently reading this. It doesn’t come out until next month so for once I’m ahead! Huge thanks to Berkley for the review copy:-)

From the lovely folks at Tor, I received Kill the Beast by Serra Swift, and yes, I’m behind with this one too. (But will be reading it next month for sure!)

Big thanks to Sparkpoint Studio and Harper Collins for a copy of The Devouring Light by Kat Ellis. This is a YA horror with lots of good reviews, and I’ll be reading it soon!

I absolutely loved The Afterlife Project from Podium Publishing, so I was very excited when they offered me another of their books, 30Seven by Jeremy Robinson. This is another science fiction book that’s getting lots of great reviews, and although it’s a January 2026 release, I’m tempted to add it to my Sci Fi Month pile next month. Thank you Podium!

Finally in the physical pile, Saga Press kindly send a copy of The Good House by Tananrive Due, a book that’s been on my TBR for a while. This is a new edition, and I can’t wait to start it!

Digital books for review:

All of these release next year, which a good thing, except for The Sound of the Dark.

Nowhere Burning by Catriona Ward is one of my most highly anticipated books of 2026, so I’m excited to have a copy!

Same for Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter by Heather Fawcett. Of course, all the fans of the Emily Wilde books are looking forward to Fawcett’s next project.

I missed out on A.M. Shine’s The Watchers, which lots of readers love, so I’m very happy to have a copy of his next book Grace.

I’m currently reading The Sound of the Dark by Daniel Church for an upcoming blog tour stop on November 6th. So far, so good!

I hadn’t even heard of Silver & Blood by Jessie Mihalik until I was offered a copy by a publicist. I loved her Consortium Rebellion series, which is science fiction. This is the start of a new fantasy series and I can’t wait!

The Book Witch by Meg Shaffer. A witch who can hop into novels? Sounds like fun, right?

Big thanks to Tor Nightfire, Del Rey, Head of Zeus, Angry Robot, Avon and Ballantine Books:-D

Are any of these books on your radar?

  1. Nowhere Burning and Grace sound promising! I did enjoy The Devouring Light – the horror is top notch – but I was expecting more from the human angle, and a certain twist was obvious. Mini review coming…

  2. This is a great haul! Those books by Ace look good…I hadn’t heard of Witches of Dubious Origin before. And same for me with Silver & Blood…I took them up on the digital arc offer. The cover for it is gorgeous.

  3. The Book Witch is on my radar for sure — I loved her previous two novels (and just got the digital ARC for this one as well). I’ve read The Keeper of Magical Things and really liked it, hope you do too! And I”m really curious about Kill the Beast. It’s popped up in my social feeds a lot, looking forward to hearing more about it. Quite a haul!! Enjoy!

The Book Witch will be my first book by that author, and I know she’s very popular, so I do have high hopes!

It sounds great, right? And she’s such a good writer, I’m excited to see what she does with fantasy.

  4. As ever – a fabulous haul of books. I’m also thrilled to have a copy of Heather Fawcett’s latest and I LOVE the sound of How to Lose a Goblin in 10 Days. Happy reading, Tammy:)).

  5. How many interesting books!! We have a couple of books in common (The Keeper of Magical Things, that I can’t believe I haven’t already read, but my reading plans went out the window so… Sigh! And Agnes Aubert…) and I am really curious about Silver and Blood and How to Lose a Goblin…
I hope you will love all of them!!

  6. The Book Witch is an interesting idea. I enjoyed Julie Leong’s The Teller of Small Fortunes so hopefully The Keeper of Magical Things is equally as good.
