Buffy’s Corner 8/17/25 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer.

So, it’s been a week. I’ve been struggling with technical issues on my blog since last Monday, and trying without any success to get Bluehost to figure out the problem. I finally did some troubleshooting on my own and my blog is up again. However, I’m cautiously optimistic and I’m basically living day to day, lol. Terrified I’ll get locked out of my dashboard again and back to square one.

Bluehost basically went in to my website and deleted at least a week’s worth of posts (I’m thinking they reverted my blog to an earlier version perhaps? Looking for some kind of corrupted file? I’m guessing because they haven’t communicated with me AT ALL.) Anyway, I’ve restored the two reviews that were gone, so if you are hopping around and see new posts that you may have already visited, that’s why. I still have a few other posts I may recreate and just post, which isn’t how I normally do things, but this is a strange situation. I’m also having trouble with visitors leaving comments, so if you are so inclined, please leave me a comment on this post so I know it’s working.

I’m going to start looking for a new website host, so if anyone has suggestions, please let me know. I’m thinking about using Ashley at Nose Graze, although I’m hesitating because I’m not sure she can offer me enough space for what I need. We’ll see.

Anyway, on to the books! Thank you for sticking with me as I navigate these stinky, muddy waters. All I want to do is read, write reviews and gush about books with other like-minded people. I don’t want to troubleshoot my blog!

Upcoming reads & reviews:

I may not have been able to blog last week, but I did read a lot. This week (provided the blog keeps working) look for three reviews: Dot Slash Magic, a fantastic urban fantasy that I absolutely loved! Lucky Day had a rocky start, but it grew on me and I ended up enjoying this wacky horror story. I’m currently reading Shitshow and loving it. After that, I’ll probably dive into The Bone Raiders.

Other posts this week:

I have three new fantasy covers to share on Future Fiction, stop by on Wednesday to check them out! And Friday I’ll be posting a Summer of Horror cover love post, although I haven’t settled on a theme yet.

Summer of Horror Updates:

We only have a few weeks left of Summer of Horror, and I love that bloggers are still participating! Thank you all, here is what I found this week:

Lynn @ Lynn’s Books – The Friday Face Off – Ghost Stories

Charlotte @ Bewitching Books, Ravenous Reads – Summer of Horror Cover Love – Phobias

Barb @ Booker T’s Farm – Here Kitty Kitty

In case you missed:

My posts from last week:

(I lost all my posts last week and only recreated the reviews, I’m so sad)

House of Monstrous Women by Daphne Fama – Review 4.5/5 stars

The Executioners Three by Susan Dennard – Review 4/5 stars

A black shepherd and a small white dog are friends.
Badger and Stella.

Hope to see you around the blogosphere:-D

  1. Urg!! Dollops of profound sympathy coming your way. I HATE it when things go wrong technically, but at least WordPress talk to me if I hit a wall!!! I don’t blame you for looking elsewhere. I’m hoping to start The Executioners Three soon, so I’ll get to your review after I’ve either started or read it depending on how it’s going. And that photo of the two dogs is adorable. Have a great week, Tammy.

Boy howdy, what a frustrating situation. I hope you can find a good, permanent solution. I read Bone Raiders last week and enjoyed it. Here’s hoping your week is excellent.

  3. My husband and I were both on Bluehost too and he recently made the switch to KnownHost after doing some research. We’re planning to switch mine over as well once my contract expires with Bluehost. It’s a new switch but so far they seem to be doing well for him. I hope you find one that works for you!

  4. oh I’m so sorry about the blog issues. I do host at Nose Graze and have been very happy. Ashley helps me when I want to do something different because I am clueless. She has also been willing to explain things. So you can only ask her and see. I am running up against the usual size limit after all these years on my graphics and may have to delete things or purchase more space.

Love Badger and Stella! She’s a licker like Lulu. lol

  5. I’m so sorry! I was wondering what was going on, after getting notifications about posts I’d already seen, then seeing that posts I thought I’d commented on no longer had my comments. What a headache for you to have to deal with. Sounds like quite a chore to find a host that works well and accommodates what you need. (I still use WordPress and haven’t had any particular issues, but I do tend to keep things simple). Good luck!

The blog was a mess this week! I just felt so helpless. I guess I need to learn more about troubleshooting so I don’t have to rely on other people.

    • Tammy

Thanks Victoria! Luckily I had posted my reviews in other places so I could copy them, but yeah, pretty frustrating.

  6. What a nightmare Tammy! I am using Siteground (I switched to them after being unhappy with my previous host) and so far so good!

  7. I’m so sorry you’ve been having issues with your blog. How frustrating! Technology is great until it stops working…which seems to happen more often these days…and I never know how to fix it.. Fingers crossed all is fine now.

  8. I use Ashley at NoseGraze. You might reach out and check with her to make sure if she can help, because she’s been great for me! I even had an issue yesterday, but it was because she was trying to get some things fixed up, and she replied almost as soon as I emailed and eventually got it fixed later in the day. Love that picture of Badger! So cute! I’m so behind on visiting reviews and blog posts, so I won’t have missed anything you put back up, lol. Hope you have a better week!

I have talked to Ashley about switching over to her company, but I need to check a few things before I do. I have heard really good things about her. Thanks Lisa, have a good week!

  9. So sad you went through all this.
All looks normal from my side now: normal look in the notification email, post opening fast, and no problem posting a comment. Congrats for trouble shooting it all by yourself.
I hear so many horror stories connected to self-hosting. Wouldn’t it be easier not to self host??

    • Tammy

So glad to hear it! It’s very frustrating when this happens and I don’t have good support. The reason I decided to go self hosted is because the free version of WordPress locked my blog, saying I violated their rules (I didn’t, but I wasn’t able to get anyone to let me explain.) I was basically backed into a corner and relocating my blog was the only way to keep it going.

  10. I am sorry for all the problems!! That sounds awful!!
But I am curious to read your review of Dot Slash Magic! I finished it the other day and I am impressed! I didn’t love it, but I was surprised by it!

  11. I’m hosting with Ashley at Nose Graze and have been pretty happy with it since I don’t know much about hosting myself and all that shit. I do have to say that lately my site goes offline for a few minutes some days but she said that there’s a large increase in bots/scrapers and that they’re trying to find more solutions. I hope this helps a bit? 😛

    • Tammy

Oh cool, another Ashley customer! It sounds like you’re pretty happy with her, and I know she focuses on book bloggers which makes me feel more comfortable.

  12. I’m so sorry to hear about your technical issues. I noticed some of your posts had vanished when I went to comment on one a few days ago only for it to fail and tell me the post didn’t exist. I thought it was a temporary glitch. I’m so sorry to hear it’s more complicated than that and hope you get everything sorted out. I’ll go and relike both of your reviews now.

Also thanks for sharing my post. Your dogs are very sweet too. I hope you have a lovely week and that your hosting issues get resolved.

    • Tammy

Thank you Charlotte, I appreciate it! I think it’s time to change hosts, although it’s not something I’m looking forward to, it will be better in the long run.

  13. I see that you already contacted Ashley at Nose Graze. I host with her and have had no problems either, so I’m throwing out another recommendation for her (if it will work out with your space needs – I’ve never had an issue with that, though, and I’ve been with her for probably 10 years or so).

    • Tammy

I’m glad to have another Ashley recommendation! And I love hearing you’ve been with her for so long:-)

  14. Oh no, I’m so sorry to read about the issues you’ve been having. That’s really frustrating. I’d be frantic!
    Badger and Stella are cuties.
    Lynn 😀

  15. First off, very sorry to hear about the blog issues. That’s never fun, and I know what you mean about just wanting things to work and not having to get bogged down in all the technical details. And I’m glad I jumped ahead to this post because I was going through several that I thought I’d already read but didn’t see my comment so thought perhaps I was just going crazy (nothing new there). 🙂

    • Tammy

I’ve never had that happen in all my years blogging, for someone else to delete posts. Oh well, at least for now, things seem to be back to normal:-)

  16. Sorry you’re having technical problems. I had trouble opening one of your posts last week or so, I think (forgot when I took a break from blogging/blog hopping). I think I was trying to look at Cackle review. I’m able to open it now though. 🙂

      • Tammy

That’s weird. I wonder if that’s the link to the Executioners Three that was deleted. I reposted it a few days ago, so frustrating!

  17. Hope you get the blog stuff ironed out soon. I’m still using blogger and probably always will because I’m not in the mood to learn a bunch of new stuff – haha. I just love that picture of Stella and Badger!
