August is probably one of the biggest new release months of the year so far, at least that’s what it seems like. The following books are ones I’d love to read, but to be honest I’ll probably only get to half of them. But check out the great books I have to pick from!

And before we get started on the books, I want to mention that August is the last month of Summer of Horror 2025. I have really had fun with this informal event, and I love that I can stretch it out over three months. I have a LOT of horror stuff I hope to post this month, and remember, everyone can join in!
The Dead Husband Cookbook by Danielle Valentine. I’ve just finished this and loved it!
The Bone Raiders by Jackson Ford. I’m sooo excited for a new Jackson Ford book, and while I wish it was the next book in The Frost Files, I’ll take whatever I can get.
Dot Slash Magic by Liz Shipton. I follow the author on Instagram and she’s hilarious. I’m assuming that same humor is going to come across in this book.
The Entanglement of Rival Wizards by Sara Raasch. I love this author’s books, and I’m excited that she’s started this new series.
House of Monstrous Women by Daphne Fama. I’m very excited to start this gothic horror story that takes place in the Philippines.
Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle. I enjoyed my last Chuck Tingle book a lot, so I’m curious about his new one. This sounds sort of unhinged!
Hemlock & Silver by T. Kingfisher. Of course I will read any Kingfisher I can get my hands on:-)
Too Old For This by Samantha Downing. This will be my first book by the author, even though I have a bunch of her earlier books on my TBR.
Tantrum by Rachel Eve Moulton. This is “motherhood horror” and as a mother I’m both curious and scared to read it!
The Executioners Three by Susan Dennard. The blurb is pretty vague, which makes me want to read this more than ever!
A Mother’s Guide to the Apocalypse by Hollie Overton. This is getting some mixed reviews on Goodreads, but I’m still looking forward to checking it out.
A Game in Yellow by Hailey Piper. The cover is very evocative and I can’t wait to read this story!
The Possession of Alba Díaz by Isabel Cañas. I enjoy Cañas’s brand of historical Gothic horror, and this one sounds great.
Secret Lives of the Dead by Tim Lebbon. This sounds very dark, and I have enjoyed Lebbon’s books in the past. This should be fun!
The Man With No Shadow by Bonnie Quinn. This is being compared to Welcome to Night Vale, and I love the “campy” cover, lol. Can’t wait to dive in!
How Bad Things Can Get by Darcy Coates. Darcy Coates is a favorite author, and she hasn’t disappointed me yet. I will probably pick this up sooner rather than later.
An Evil Premise by T. Marie Vandelly. This sounds like a very twisty thriller/horror story. Vandelly is a new to me author so I’m curious to try it!
The Witch’s Orchard by Archer Sullivan. This is a supernatural mystery that takes place in North Carolina, and I love the sound of it.

How many interesting books! I am curious to know what you will think of Hemlock and Silver!! And I am curious about The Husband Cookbook!! We share a couple of books, but you mentioned some others that are on my radar, like the new Raasch book! Anyway, you have such an interesting selection!!
Thanks Susy, I feel like I have lots of good choices:-)
I love the look of this TBR list, there seems like a lot to look forward to.
Have a great month and enjoy your books 😀
Thank you!
I’m hoping to start Hemlock and Silver in the coming week. So many of these look great!
I cracked Hemlock & Silver open last night and so far it’s very good:-)
The Bone Raiders looks awesome. And I definitely want to check out that new one by Darcy Coates; I really like her books. I might have to check out How to Survive Camping, too. That looks fun. Happy reading this month! 😀
Thanks Lark! I hope you have a good reading month too:-)
I have a lot more books in September than August. I’m actually going to fit in a couple library books or books I own in August. I have the Witch’s Orchard to review.
Anne – Books of My Heart
I have a lot of September books too (and October is bad too! or should I say “good”)
I want to read The Executioners Tree too!
I started it and I’m enjoying it!
Lots of interesting looking reads, enjoy!
Thanks Stormy!
Yeah pretty much all of these are on my list too hah! I am SO excited for Lucky Day, Mother’s Guide, and Alba Diaz and of course the new T Kingfisher! And so many of the others are on my list too, I just know I won’t actually get to them this month heh.
I wish I could get to all of them but that would literally be a miracle, lol.
It definitely looks like a busy release month. I hope you find lots of new favourites and I’m thrilled to hear that you’ve already read and loved one of these. I’ve read most of Samantha Downings books (I think it’s just her previous one that I’ve missed) and loved them all. Can’t wait to see how you find her new one. I’m interested in a lot of these too especially The Bone Raiders, Hemlock & Silver and The Executioner’s Three.
I’m also looking forward to Aphrodite and Boudicca’s Daughter among others.
Now I’m even more excited to read the Samantha Downing book:-)
I’ve got The Executioner’s Three on my reading list for August too I think! Lots of good books, can’t wait to see which ones you get through and how you enjoy them.
I hope we both love it!
Enjoy!
My most anticipated is rereading this book by Barbery: https://wordsandpeace.com/2025/08/01/the-top-7-books-to-read-in-august-2025/
Thank you!
I’m also looking forward to Hemlock & Silver.
Wow! I feel like I’m drowning just looking at YOUR list. 🙂
This is a great line up – I’ve already read two (and a half) of these and really enjoyed them so hope they work for you.
Lynn 😀
Haha, I thought August was going to be a lighter month for me and then I saw your list and realized I have a lot of the same books on my tbr that I’ve forgotten about! So much for that
