Buffy’s Corner 7/27/25 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer.

The weather has been lovely here, in the 70s most of the week. And when I woke up this morning it was 44 degrees outside and I needed socks and a hoodie! It’s getting hot again this week but that’s OK.

My issue with WordPress blog notification emails continues (I’m not getting them), but I’m getting used to the WordPress Reader, although I still prefer the emails. Oh well.

Otherwise it’s business as usual here! Instead of a Badger photo today, I have a photo the hubby took at the Living Desert in Palm Desert. Hopefully Badger will be back next week!

Upcoming reads & reviews:

Look for my review of The Deepest Fake tomorrow. It’s a pretty good thriller, but I can’t help but compare it to other better thrillers. And I took a look at my upcoming ARC pile and freaked out, so of course the natural thing to do in that situation is to pick up a book from my shelves, lol. Cackle just happens to be one of my TBR Jar books and it’s literally in the bookcase by my bed, so I’m currently reading it and having a great time! Next I might dive into Shitshow, even though it doesn’t come out until October, but I think Chris might want some early reviews, and I’m happy to help:-) Then I’m diving into my August releases, starting with The Dead Husband Cookbook.

Other posts this week:

It’s another busy week on the blog! In addition to reviews, I’ll post my usual Future Fiction on Wednesday; Thursday will be my July Wrap-Up post; and Friday I’ll take a break from Summer of Horror Cover Love and share my August TBR!

  1. That fox pic is so cute! I wish we had some 70s weather here it’s been extremely hot here and I love summer but not this kind of heat…lol.

  2. OMG look at the cute fox!
I hope Cackle continues to entertain – I enjoyed it.
And a Chris Panatier – can’t wait to see what you make of that one.

Thanks Celeste! Yes, there are benefits to living in the mountain, although there are downsides too. I’ll take the cooler weather, though!

  3. Sophie @BewareOfTheReader

It’s nice to have a break from the heat! That’s what we have for two weeks here too!

    • Tammy

Except now I’ve gotten used to the lower temps and it’s going to be hot later in the week, sigh.

  4. We are supposed to have some weather in the 70s toward the end of this week, after days with heat advisory up in the 100s, yuck. I also don’t get WordPress emails most of the time. I haven’t used the WordPress reader, although I might have to start doing that! Love your husband’s photo at the end! He is so talented! And it looks like I’ve got several reviews of yours to get caught up on! I was so close to being caught up before I went on my cruise.

Thanks Lisa! I’m glad I’m not the only one having issues with WP emails. I’m glad your weather is cooling down, enjoy:-)

  5. I have been browsing my library’s catalog of cookbooks lately, including pop culture ones like Disney Princess Cookbook, Game of Thrones Cookbooks, Studio Gibli Cookbooks, etc. and for a moment I thought The Dead Husband Cookbook was an actual cookbook! I had a moment of imagining the kind of recipes it would have, and then I saw it was a novel.

LOL well there are recipes in the book. I just started it and it revolves around a family owned restaurant (among other things). It’s fun so far!

  6. Your weather sounds amazing! I’m sorry I’m not a horror reader or I could be more supportive. I’m sorry you are still having trouble with email notifications.

I know other bloggers don’t get WordPress emails either, so I’m glad it’s not just me. I always get yours, though. You must have it set up differently.

  7. Great to hear you pulled one from the TBR. Making progress! 🙂 And what a gorgeous kit fox portrait. Very nice.

  8. Urg! Weather in the 40s? You can keep that option – though I’m glad it’s been generally cooler for you this week. And the fox is absolutely stunning:)). Have a great week, Tammy.

  9. That fox is so cute and such a good picture. I want some lovely weather. We are in the cycle of extreme heat, heat advisories, storms, sauna, repeat. I think we might get a break Thursday. How have I not heard of Shitshow? That title is too good to pass up that book!

    • Tammy

I hope your weather cools down. And Shitshow is pretty much what the title says, lol. It’s really funny so far.

  10. WordPress haven’t been giving me good notifications in a while either, it’s a pain. They also don’t send one to subscribers if a scheduled post goes up… only if I manually do it. Such a pain. But I’m too invested in the WordPress system at this point, and most things work, so I put up with it…

Hope you have a good week for reading!

    • Tammy

I would never leave WordPress, but it’s so frustrating when things don’t work. I don’t even know how to send manual emails!
