Future Fiction #341 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Check out these new covers: a weird Western, a story about a haunted painting, and a workplace fantasy:

The story of an orphan in a fractured Southwest who just wants to ride a dinosaur under the lights. This is How to Train Your Dragon meets Mad Max.

Come one, come all to the dinosaur rodeo!

Tif Tamim wants nothing more than to be a dinosaur buckaroo. An orphan in search of a place to rest his head and a job to weigh down his pockets, Tif has bounced from circus to circus, yearning for a chance to ride a prehistoric beauty under the sparkling lights of a big-top.

To become a buckaroo, Tif needs to learn the tools of the trade, yet few dino maestros want to take a scrawny nobody from nowhere under their wing. But when Tif frees a dino from an abusive owner and braves the roving gangs of the formerly-American west to bring the dino to safety, he catches someone’s eye. And boy, how those eyes dazzle Tif from the back of a bucking carnotaur.

Boy, With Accidental Dinosaur by Ian McDonald. Releases in February 2025 from Tordotcom. This sounds like a blast! It’s been a long time since I’ve read anything by Ian McDonald, and if anyone can pull of this story it’s him.

An internationally bestselling author’s chilling horror debut in which an art conservator’s obsession with a mysterious painting spirals into a nightmarish descent, where the line between reality and the supernatural shatters, threatening both her sanity and her life.

Mathilde “Tilly” Crewson, a thirty-nine-year-old mother and art conservator, is tasked with restoring The Mother. The painting, believed to be the work of a female surgeon-turned-artist after a personal tragedy, is the rumored fourth piece in a collection of only three known works. But this newly discovered painting, scarred by fire, holds more than meets the eye.

Soon after receiving the painting, Tilly discovers she’s unexpectedly pregnant. But almost immediately, strange, inexplicable things begin to happen: terrifying insect swarms, eerie visits from her long-deceased mother, and sinister whispers that invade her mind. As these malevolent forces intensify, Tilly comes to a harrowing realization: the only way to sever the perilous bond she shares with the painting is to destroy it. But The Mother has plans of her own—and they’re darker than Tilly could ever imagine…

Mother is Watching by Karma Brown. Releases in March 2026 from Dutton. I spotted this on NetGalley and immediately added it to my TBR. Ooh a sinister, haunted painting story! I love this cover and I’m very curious about the book.

When investment banker Miri is purposely trapped in Faerie by her client, the Princeling of the Faerie realm, she does what any 20-something would: cries, eats cake, and worries loudly about her cat, Doctor Kitten. Instead of rescuing her, her boss simply confirms that she has solid internet access, leaving Miri stranded in a strange land with only a warning that the quality of her work should not decrease because of a change of address.

But Miri grew up reading fantasy, and she knows there are always ways to work around magic—she just needs to find them. To affect a daring escape, Miri must navigate Faerie political drama, lies by omission, deteriorating mental health, and a mother who never hangs up the phone.

A Fae in Finance by Juliet Brooks. Releases in October 2025 from Orbit Books. I’ve been waiting for this cover to be revealed, and I’m so happy to see it, it’s so cute, right? This is going to be a must read for me:-)

  1. Lauren Always Me

I like dinosaurs so of course Boy, With Accidental Dinosaur is going on my tbr.

  2. A FAE IN FINANCE looks like the perfect light read I need right now. As for the dinosaur book, I’m intrigued but I don’t care for Mad Max, so hopefully it falls a little more on the how to train your dragon side of things!

  3. Boy, With Accidental Dinosaur does sound like a blast! I already love Tif for rescuing an abused dino. Consider me very intrigued!

I’m also loving the sound of A Fae in Finance because it sounds so funny! Adding to my list for sure!

  4. The idea of a dinosaur rodeo rider sounds amazing and like you – it’s been a while since I read anything by McDonald… And as for the book about the girl stranded in Faerie – that sounds fabulous. Thank you for sharing, Tammy.

  5. I don’t know if it’s just me being weird but when I saw the top half of that first cover I was convinced it was going to be the latest Wayward Children book. These all sound very different to one another this week and the haunted painting one sounds chilling. Just reading the blurb makes me nervous.
