Welcome to another Rainbow of Horror post, celebrating Summer of Horror! Today I’m focusing on a color that you might not expect—white. At first, white doesn’t call to mind horror books at all, but look closer and you’ll see there are quite a few. I’ve read seven out of the eleven books listed, and a few aren’t published yet and I hope to read those at some point too!
We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer
How To Make a Horror Movie and Survive by Craig DiLouie
Good Girls Don’t Die by Christina Henry
Dead of Winter by Darcy Coates
Nothing Tastes As Good by Luke Dumas
What Stalks the Deep by T. Kingfisher

White puts me in mind of wintery horror, which some of these titles look like they could be. I really need to read another C. J. Tudor, and I’m sure The Hollows was something I thought I’d probably enjoy as well, so thanks for the reminder about that one 😀
There are a lot of snowy covers here, which isn’t that surprising. Snow and horror go well together:-)
I haven’t read any of these but I’m reading We Used To Live Here soon and really want to try a few of the other authors, especially Christina Henry & C.J. Tudor. The cover for Dead Of Winter reminds me of some of the ones for Misery that I shared last week. I guess both have wintery settings lol
I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts on We Used to Live Here!
Love it! And there are so many on this list I want to read: The Hollows, The Drift, Dead of Winter, Good Girls Don’t Die, and How to Make a Horror Movie and Survive. They all sound really good to me. 😀
You can’t really go wrong with any of those:-)
I think white can fit perfectly with horror books and these covers proof it!
There are quite a few snowy titles, and “snow horror” is definitely a thing:-)
I need to add Nothing Tastes as Good to my TBR! That cover drew me in.
It’s a great cover, right?
I’ve been enjoying these posts! Can’t wait for What Stalks the Deep
Very curious about What Stalks the Deep! The last book didn’t work that well for me so I hope i like this one more.
I also wasn’t super crazy about the last one, but this is set in a West Virginia mine which definitely gives me good, creepy vibes.
I don’t think I’ve read any of these yet but you’re right, white can certainly work for a horror cover. My favorite might be Dead of Winter, but there are some other pretty cool covers in the mix, as well as some books I’d like to read.
Horror and snow go well together, so I guess it’s not that surprising of a color:-)
I remember seeing Dead of Winter everywhere Tammy!
Darcy Coates is very popular!
Given my love of covers and this meme I really need to put something together. I do have a couple of reviews that I need to post that also fall into Summer of Horror.
Lynn 😀
You know I never really realized how impactful a white horror cover can be. I want to do another topic on Friday so need to figure out one. Love this feature and enjoying participating!
White is definitely not the first color I think of when it comes to horror covers, but seeing all these together does something to me. Almost like I’m seeing a facade of spotlessness. Really like the touch of red on these.
