Future Fiction #340 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

I’m thrilled to share these three upcoming horror novels by three of my favorite authors! I usually list these in order of how excited I am, and I literally cannot rank them this week, lol.

From Marcus Kliewer, a new “titan of the macabre and unsettling” (Erin A. Craig, #1 New York Times bestselling author), comes a supernatural horror about a young woman who accepts a caretaking job from Craigslist only to discover the position has consequences far greater—and more dangerous—than she ever could have imagined.

Follow the Rites… Follow the Rites… Follow the Rites…

Nothing less than the survival of humanity is at stake.

EXCITING OPPORTUNITY: Caregiver for elderly husband urgently needed. Competitive pay. Serious applicants ONLY. If interested, please contact: Carsnwel54 @ AOL . com

As a down on her luck college grad student saddled with a disturbing amount of debt, Macy Mullins can’t say why the Craigslist posting grabbed her attention—it had all the flare of a fisherman’s lure, barbed hook and all. But after an endless string of failed job interviews, she’s not exactly in the position to be picky. She has rent to pay and a younger sister to provide for. Unable to turn down a paycheck, she takes the job. She quickly discovers that her responsibilities have stakes far greater—and more dangerous—than she ever could have imagined.

The Caretaker by Marcus Kliewer. Releases in April 2026 from Atria/Emily Bestler Books. I’m thrilled to see Kliewer’s next book announced! Earlier this year I read and loved We Used To Live Here, and I’ve been hoping the author had another book up his sleeve. I cannot wait!

An epic, Lovecraftian horror novel in the vein of Black River Orchard and American Elsewhere about a small town that becomes obsessed with a series of random objects left strewn across their town in the aftermath of a storm. From the Bram Stoker award-nominated and bestselling author of Come with Me.

The residents of Mariner’s Cove are changing…

In the aftermath of a violent storm, a collective obsession is rapidly developing among the people of this quaint suburban neighborhood. Random, everyday items left scattered upon the lawns, the streets, and the shoreline all seem to call out to them. There is an item for almost everyone, and each item has a certain hold over the person who finds it—a hold that soon turns into unwavering infatuation. They hide their items from each other, obsess over them, and they will do anything—anything—to protect them.

The collective hum of bees’ wings…

A young boy finds himself the possessor of a strange and inexplicable power. Is the arrival of this power linked to the increasingly odd and dangerous behavior of the residents of Mariner’s Cove? Has he been granted this power in order to thwart whatever is about to happen in this small, bayside community, or is there a more sinister purpose?

The Hive by Ronald Malfi. Releases in April 2026 from Titan Books. OK this sounds super weird, but I am here for it!

Something darker than the devil stalks the North Carolina woods in Wolf Worm, a new gothic masterpiece from New York Times bestselling author T. Kingfisher.

The year is 1899 and Sonia Wilson is a scientific illustrator without work, prospects, or hope. When the reclusive Dr. Halder offers her a position illustrating his vast collection of insects, Sonia jumps at the chance to move to his North Carolina manor house and put her talents to use. But soon enough she finds that there are darker things at work than the Carolina woods. What happened to her predecessor, Halder’s wife? Why are animals acting so strangely, and what is behind the peculiar local whispers about “blood thiefs?”

With the aid of the housekeeper and a local healer, Sonia discovers that Halder’s entomological studies have taken him down a dark road full of parasitic maggots that burrow into human flesh, and that his monstrous experiments may grow to encompass his newest illustrator as well.

Wolf Worm by T. Kingfisher. Releases in March 2026 from Tor Nightfire. I can’t believe we’re getting yet ANOTHER Kingfisher book!  This sounds fantastic, and for some reason I’m getting The Hollow Places vibes.

  1. I’m getting depressed by how behind I am on T. Kingfisher’s books. I just can’t keep up with the releases! But still adding it to my TBR. I’ll get around to their books at some point, right? 😛

There’s no way to keep up! She has three books coming out in the next year, I can’t even.

  2. Crickey – Kingfisher is getting almost as prolific as Adrian Tchaikovsky!! That does sound like a fabulous premise, though…

  3. Oooh, new T. Kingfisher book! I am SO READY for it! Not only does the cover look fantastic, but everything about it sounds like everything I want from a Kingfisher book. (Although, if I’m honest, I could probably do without the maggots. Maggots squick me out a bit. Ugh.)

  4. Laurie | Bark

I am so excited for Wolf Worm and Malfi is always a solid read. Thanks for the heads up!

  5. Barb @ Booker T's Farm

You know you win the award for successfully killing my TBR every week right? I saw “three horror” and know I’d be a goner.

I had to redo my post because the Malfi and Kliewer covers were revealed the day before, I HAD to feature them!

  6. I wonder if Kliewer’s new book will be as strange as We Used to Live Here. It sounds like it has potential. Definitely one to look out for 😀

  7. A NEW T KINGFISHER?!?! YESSSSSS!! I didn’t even read the synopsis, just added heh. Also, that girl should have known better than to respond to an AOL address on Craigslist in the year 2026. Ma’am, that was sketchy in 2010! Very curious about The Hive, too! Amazing picks this week, and all new to me!

  8. Wow Kingfisher writes a lot of books. I know a few of the recent ones have been re-releases but at least two weren’t. She must write majorly quickly! I’m intrigued by all three of these, especially as I’ve heard good things about all of the authors. Looks like an exciting week for horror news.
