Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!
I’m back to monthly book hauls, which is easier for me (and also easier to keep track of new books for some reason). So these are all the physical and digital review books I received in June. HUGE thanks to all the publishers and publicists who were kind enough to send them my way. Most of these are 2025 releases, so I will be reading them in the next six months. Here we go:
Books in the mail for review:

Big thanks to Saga Press for a bunch of horror titles and one cozy fantasy! Starting with a Stephen Graham Jones double book. On one side it’s Killer on the Road, and on the other it’s The Babysitter Lives. My question is, does this count as two books? LOL
Also from Saga, You Weren’t Meant To Be Human by Andrew Joseph White. I have yet to read this author, although all his books are on my TBR. This sounds fantastic!
An Ancient Witch’s Guide to Modern Dating by Cecilia Edward is a cozy fantasy, and this copy from Saga Press has purple edges, so double thanks for that!
Finally, The Man With No Shadow (How to Survive Camping #1) by Bonnie Quinn started as a series of Reddit stories, and I’m very curious about it.
Huge thanks to Tor Books for sending a couple of highly anticipated Fall releases! The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow is giving me Outlander vibes, for some reason (I could be way off base!). In any case I can’t wait to read it. Also, Cinder House by Freya Marske is a queer Cinderella retelling, and I’m looking forward to reading more by this author.

Huge thanks to Quirk Books for the first two: Crafting for Sinners by Jenny Kiefer sounds crazy! “A queer woman must fight her way out of a big-box craft store run by a diabolical religious cult.” I cannot wait to dive in:-)
Also from Quirk, I received The Great Work by Sheldon Costa, which is the complete opposite of the last book. It appears to be a fantasy Western, and I adore this cover.
Courtesy of Poisoned Pen Press, I’m thrilled to have a copy of Darcy Coates’ latest, How Bad Things Can Get. I’m a big Coates fan, and this is an August release so it will be part of my Summer of Horror event.
You Watched in Silence by H. Lee Justine is a queer horror/thriller that sounds really good. Big thanks to Blackstone Publishing for sending a copy!
Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire for sending a copy of Catch Your Death by Ravena Guron, a YA mystery/thriller. This is being compared to Holly Jackson, so I have to read it!
And finally in the physical pile, I love this beautiful hardcover of You’ve Awoken Her by Ann Dávila Cardinal that Sparkpoint Studio sent me for review. I have already read it and enjoyed it a lot!
Digital books for review:
Six NetGalley approvals for the whole month, not too bad! And each one is pretty exciting.
A Box Full of Darkness by Simone St. James is set in the same town as The Sun Down Motel, which I have not read. But that’s a great reason to catch up before this comes out in January.
I had to grab a copy of Snake-Eater by T. Kingfisher, because of course I want to read all the Kingfisher books:-) This is set in the desert and is listed as horror so I’m very happy!
I must also read all the Christina Henry books, and her latest, The Place Where They Buried Your Heart, is a haunted house story. I especially love the retro cover!
Turns of Fate by Anne Bishop is the start to a new series, and I couldn’t be more excited to read it. I haven’t read an Anne Bishop book in several years, so it’s time.
Hot Wax by M.L Rio was an impulse request, but I’m glad I was approved. This is a music centric mystery/thriller, and I’m looking forward to finally reading something by this author.
Kill the Beast by Serra Swift is getting a lot of great buzz, so I had to grab it.

Looks like you have a lot of great books ahead of you! I can’t wait for Crafting For Sinners. Enjoy!
Thank you!
So many of these look so fun! I love Darcy Coates’ books, too. And that one about How to Survive Camping is one I need to check out. Happy reading all of these! 😀
Thanks Lark! I agree, I always look forward to a new Darcy Coates book:-)
Nice book haul! I haven’t read much horror but it is the favorite genre of my middle school students. I hope you enjoy all your new reads.
Thanks for visiting!
Looks like an awful lot, enjoy!
Thanks Emma:-)
I’m really looking forward to Cinder House! Looks like a pretty awesome haul for the month.
It sounds so good, right?
Looks like a great haul! I’m really curious about Cinder House—hope you enjoy it!
Thank you! I’m looking forward to it so much:-)
The Everlasting is one I’m really looking forward to based on enjoying other books by Harrow. Cinder House sounds very good as well.
Hope you enjoy all your books 😀
Thank you!
Cinder House! You know I’m looking forward to that one as well. HAPPY READING! 😀
Thanks Stephanie!
It’s been ages since I’ve seen a double book like the one by Stephen Graham Jones. And I also haven’t seen a roadrunner in ages so it was great to see one on the cover of Snake-Eater. 🙂
That Kingfisher cover is one of my recent favorites, because of the roadrunner:-)
So many amazing books! I’m really looking forward to reading An Ancient Witch’s Guide to Modern Dating. My library’s copy just came in, so it’s mine as soon as it finishes processing. 😀 I also absolutely LOVE the cover of Kill The Beast! So pretty!
Yes, Kill the Beast has a great cover, right?
I picked up Kill the Beast too, it definitely sounds intriguing!
It’s really getting great buzz, I hope the buzz is right!
Oh I’m not at all jealous of Turns of Fate haha.
I can’t wait to start her new series:-)
How many interesting books!! This is the first time I saw Kill the Beast (but I was in a hiatus so it’s not strange) but it seems interesting! And the new Kingfisher and Bishop books!!
There are so many good books coming out!
Omggg you got a copy of The Everlasting!!! It looks so good. I don’t request Tor books so much these days, but I might make an exception for this one. I’ve got to submit a few ARC reviews first so they see I’m active haha.
I honestly didn’t think I’d get it. Tor seems to be much more selective these days, and I’m not exactly a top tier blogger, lol.
Uh I consider you a top tier blogger!! And yea that’s exactly why I’ve cut back on my requests from them. I used to almost always get approved, now, not so much. If that’s how they feel, fine, I’ll stick with Orbit & Harper Collins who are much more generous with bloggers.
Aww thanks Celeste. I agree, stick with the publishers who want to work with you:-)
Lots of great books! Can’t wait to see what you think of them as you get to them.

Fantastic haul Tammy. Enjoy
Lynn 😀
Oh wow I can’t believe you already have a physical arc of Alix E Harrows next book. Her writing style is so beautiful that she’s definitely one of my favourite authors. The other one I’m especially intrigued by is Snake Eater although I actually have a fair few of these on my TBR too. It looks like a fantastic haul and I hope you find lots of new favourites.
