Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Today I have three 2026 releases, two horror and one fantasy, take a look:

Enter an edge-of-your-seat nightmare to the darkest frontiers in Crawlspace, an sci-fi horror novel from New York Times bestselling author Adam Christopher, perfect for fans of S.A. Barnes and Event Horizon.
Mission Lead Olivia O’Connor and her team from the Artemis Corporation, along with their military liaison, are in the final preparations for an undertaking that will alter the course of human history: a test flight that promises to open up new frontiers in the expanse of the universe.
But their journey between dimensions is one they never trained for. Strange voices in the corridors. Long lost faces not forgotten. Strange symbols carved into the hull. And gathering outside the ship, ancient forces beyond reckoning.
The crew will need all their skills to survive and uncover the twisted truth behind their mission.
Commencing countdown…
Crawlspace by Adam Christopher. Releases in March 2026 from Tor Nightfire. I am excited to see Adam Christopher writing space horror! I’ve read a couple of his books but they were more humorous in tone. I love this weird cover, and I think this sounds fantastic.

A dark, sexy, and twisted reimagining of The Wizard of Oz from USA Today bestselling author Nikki St Crowe.
Dorothy Gale doesn’t know where she came from. She has only the vaguest memory of her life before landing in the dull, gray world of the vast Kansas prairie. Then a cyclone rips through the night and carries her, her dog, and the farmhouse somewhere a lot farther than Dorothy imagined. She’s in a strange land that’s apparently cursed, shrouded in shadow. And to get home, Dorothy needs to seek out a wizard, following a treacherous path and watch out for a never-ending list of forest beasts, witches, a cursed mercenary, and perhaps most dangerous of all, the wizard himself.
West of Wicked (The Great and Terrible Lands #1) by Nikki St. Crowe. Releases in April 2026 from Bramble. I’m usually wary of Wizard of Oz retellings, but I have to say this one intrigues me, especially since it’s being published by Bramble, which is typically known for fantasy romance. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on it!

A chilling horror-thriller debut where a mother’s search for her missing daughter battles against the shadows of a historic, dangerous legend.
Single mother Jenna arrives on the tranquil shores of Athelsea fueled by the desperate hope to find Chloe, her teenage daughter who’s disappeared from their London home. She has no idea why–all she knows is that Chloe had changed in the previous two weeks, haunted by something, or someone, and the ferry ticket here is the only clue she has.As she explores the village and interacts with the locals, Jenna soon realizes a macabre secret is being hidden in plain sight. A dark legend of a vengeful woman called the Bone Queen is spoken of in hushed tones amongst the villagers, some of whom are frantically trying to suppress the tale that has long terrorized their lives.
As Jenna starts to learn more about the Bone Queen and her previous victims, the village’s grip on reality begins to loosen and no one can say for sure who, or what, is responsible for the deaths and disappearances on Athelsea. Suffering from what she can no longer distinguish between paranoid hallucinations or real manifestations, Jenna must act quickly before Chloe is next…
The Bone Queen has left her mark, and one day she’ll collect.
The Bone Queen by Will Shindler. Releases in February 2026 from Minotaur Books. A missing daughter, a creepy village full of secrets and a dark legend…sounds like my kind of book!

West of Wicked sounds interesting, I think the only Oz retelling I’ve read before now is Wicked, and I also like the sound of The Bone Queen.
I loved Wicked (the book) and I have a feeling this will be very different.
The Bone Queen sounds excellent!
Doesn’t it? I can’t wait to read it:-)
Like you I’m wary of Oz retellings as I’ve rarely read one I’ve really enjoyed – but this one does sound good!
Maybe this will be “the one”!
Unsurprisingly I love the sound of West of Wicked. I love myself a dark retelling. And I think it can either be really good or miss its mark. You never know with these type of retellings. I’m crossing my fingers for really good!
Exactly, it will be interesting to see some reviews before I decide whether to read it or not.
These all look great… but I think The Bone Queen is the one calling to me the most!
It does sound good! And the cover has a great, creepy vibe.
Tentacles! I see tentacles. You know I’m all in for that one.
I thought you might like that one;-)
Those last two definitely have my interest. Good finds!
Thanks Sophia!
The Oz retelling and The Bone Queen have both piqued my interest. I too am curious about West of Wicked being from Bramble.
I’m thinking there must be romance in it, I guess we’ll see:-)
Added The Bone Queen to my list! That one looks great!
Right? I love the cover too, can’t wait:-)
Ooh I’m curious to see what a cursed Oz is like and really like the sound of The Bone Queen too. Creepy villages with dark legends sounds like my type of horror read.
I will probably read the Oz book because I’m so curious!
Interesting to hear Adam Christopher moving from humor to horror.
Yes! I thought it was a big change. I’m curious to see how that goes:-)
The Bone Queen is calling to me!
Lynn 😀
